2014 Gibson Explorer 120 (with Bogner Uberschall and Bullhead Lead Sled)

2014 Gibson Explorer 120
- Heritage Cherry
- Burstbucker Lead/Rhythm pickups
- Bogner Uberschall into Two Notes Torpedo Live, Marshall 4x12 sim with SM57
- Bullhead Amplification Lead Sled into Bogner Custom Shop 4x12 with Celestion Greenbacks, mic'd with a Sennheiser e609, off-axis
- Song at the top is "These Four Walls" - something currently in the works.
- All tracks recorded into ProTools 10, mixed, mastered by yours truly.

I own this guitar. It's amazing, and there were only 400 made. I'm not sure why this guy was unhappy; although he mentions the nut and binding. Mine are both done flawlessly. He has some of the info wrong. I own one of the 200 Heritage Cherry models. The one he is playing doesn't look cherry; the lighting in the video is terrible. This color is AMAZING, and he doesn't know how to light it up. He lists them as having Burstbucker's...they do not. They have Burstbucker Pro's, which are an entirely different pickup, and imho, second only to the 57 classics. My finish is perfect, and if it wasn't, I don't know why you wouldn't send it back and demand it be, although he is certainly justified in sending it back if it has the finish problems he mentions..I just would have made them refinish it. The real special thing about this guitar which isn't mentioned often is the neck. It's not a 60's slim, though it is slim and fast. It's a custom cut they built for this and the 120 V. Also to his credit he tells you not to take his word for it; I would say buy one if you were interested, but good luck finding one now.

totally agree with you for the biding ! For me it is the only "black point" on this guitar. However it's a great Explorer and i'm glad to have this model :)

Thanks! I ended up sending it back because of the workmanship on it. Completely bummed out by that. At that price point, it should be damn perfect. Sounded and played great and I wanted to love it, but I'm on the hunt for an example that somebody actually took their time with it during the build to do it correctly.

***** what was wrong with it? I bought a 20th anniversary Nighthawk recently and it had a smudge in the finish. but the tech at the store i bought it at fixed it super quick and it looks perfect. I always have to change the strings and get a setup..but i expect that.

Hello. The sound is very nice. Could you please clarify how you use your amps. Do you use clean from bogner and overdrive form bullhead, or do you use them together?

Those speakers go well with Golds and Creams, if one tone becomes one dimensional switch it up.

Great video! Anyone know anything about the limba wood these guitars are made with? I'm currently wanting to order a custom Carvin & need some opinions on limba. Of course, it's pricey, but I want to make sure I'm getting true quality instead of something that's just revered for being rare. Opinions on limba?

Limba? Wtf is that? Lol ;) These are solid mahogany bodies and necks. The fret boards are Rosewood...though I'm not sure from what country...

Yeah I have one of the 84 "Heritage" models where Gibson; in their infinite wisdom, painted them black, and put a crap tremolo bridge in them. The amazing tone you can get from the korina is largely lost because of that. I'd never heard it called limba though...and then I remembered I have seen Korina labeled White limba Korina. Maybe that's an African name or something.

Great Demo!.. What was wrong with it? I bought the 2014 Traditional Les Paul and the fit and finish is terrible for a $2,600.00 guitar! Very unhappy with Gibson and the crap quality they are putting out!...

I'm sure if you talk to your retailer & contact Gibson, accommodations will be made post-haste to address any factory issues. As Gibson prides themselves on quality control. Second, as I'm sure you haven't done the above .. You're nothing but a big mouth punk complaining about nonexistent issues on a fictitious guitar. Fix your custom, or you simply don't own one. No one likes a cry baby. Especially one trying to bruise a reputation of a solid product.

Robert Wallace I also have the 2014 Trad and the finish was perfect, surpassing anything else I owned, played, or had customized. Watched the factory tour and looked at their equipment, you have to wonder how you could get a better fret job. Like a tank, as well, so they stay in tune after all the yanking you can throw at em. As a 2014 customer I can verify the factory guarantee I received is valid and any dissatisfaction is covered. Take it to Tennessee and likely witness the repairs personally. Real people, real company, real quality, American style. The nut blem shown here, Guitar Center's tech could prob smooth/buff it, I would be down the road and in 10hrs arrive in Tenn, home of the fabled Gibson guitars. Nothing sings like them, foundations of tone.

Robert Wallace DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE SAYING!!! The features on the 2015 line-up are cool as hell, titanium saddles, increased fretboard mass, adjustable brass nut, ability to remove the pickguard without any screwholes, somewhat more expensive, but the prices gets lowered to a very decent price towards the end of the year. And I also bought a 2014 LP Traditional, wine red. Not only does it look amazing, but it sounds INCREDIBLE. Gibson quality is out of this world!

Raymond Chandler There were only 400 made. They are of a very high quality. Someone that knows guitars would know a fake in a second. But with only 400 around, they are rare. Maybe this guy got a fakie, and that's were the nut and binding issue come from...but I doubt that very seriously.
