Just a quick video showing how to replace rear brake pads on a 2014 Honda CRV. This would be the same or similar for 2010 - 2017 Acura RDX; 2010 - 2015 Honda Accord Crosstour, and 2005 - 2016 Honda CR-V
Tools Needed:
Large screwdriver or small pry bar
12mm socket and/or wrench
17mm Open-End Wrench
Brake Grease
The torque specs I found online say 17 ft. lbs. for the caliper slide pin bolts. (I recommend checking that in your manual to make sure it's correct.)

I just got done completely changing rotors and pads on a 14 CRV. This was the most outstanding video and you covered all the major points very well. I would stress not putting new mounting hardware and just reusing the old mounting hardware. The Bosch mounting hardware I bought had dog ears on it which scraped the rotor. The old dog Hardware did not have dog ears. Just brushing the old hardware with a wire brush made them good as new in my opinion.

Thank you for the video! How long can you expect to hear pad rubbing notice due to the rotors not being changed out? My caliper wouldn't move due to the peaks line being connected to the caliper in the center area by the piston chamber. Do you know if there are multiple types of calipers for this Honda CR-V? I have the 2WD LX version.

I normally use permatex blue anti-squel on the back of the pads. Your thoughts are appreciated 👍

Although I'm not 100% sure, I would imagine they are the same as they are both in the same generation of CR-Vs.

Changed the rear brakes on my crv, but now it squeals really loud, going forward and backwards. Hopefully time will break them in

Make sure the metal retainer is not rubbing on the rotor. Sometimes they don’t seat fully. Best of luck to you, hope you get it sorted out. Dan.

No need to mess with the parking brake whatsoever. Even when changing the rotors. I don’t use parking brakes at all so taking the rotor off and putting a new one on without doing anything with the emergency brake worked fine for me

Hi Edgar, ‘Bleeding the calipers’ usually implies that there is air in your brake lines. As long as you don’t open the bleeder screw or any brake lines, no air should be in the system. So, it’s really not necessary if you’re just replacing the brake pads. Thanks for watching! -Dan the Fix it Man

Hi Edgar, I think the caliper slide pin bolts are the same, and the torque specs are the same for the 2014 and 2017 models. I just did a brake job on a 2017 CR-V. I will post a video of it once I finish editing. -Dan the Fix it Man

You will need to use a torque wrench. You might be able to rent one for free from an auto parts store. amzn.to/2VAH666 This is a link to a torque wrench if you decide to buy one. Although ideally you’d want to torque them to 17 foot pounds as demonstrated. Making them very snug will work. 17 foot pounds is not much at all

I was worried about not having an impact screwdriver. To be honest you don’t need it at least in my experience. I used the correct Phillips head screwdriver bit - not screwdriver - and banged that several times with a hammer after spraying with Kroil. All eight of my rotor mounting screws came off without any issue. That was my experience
