I've been doing my own brakes all my life for the most part, but thought it best to sharpen my skills, as some of the recommended differences can depend on the vehicle being worked on. I've not done a CRV before, so I thank you Roy! Only difference I see from many other jobs..is the 'screw', as I haven't come across that before. Thanks for the quality video on doing this job!

Excellent video. At 2:38 all I did to remove screws was take a hex Philips head screw bit and pound a few times with a hammer. Sprayed with Kroil as well. Did not need to buy a special Phillips impact screwdriver. This approach worked well on all eight screws. Just pound them well

I followed all the steps, all new pads and rotors. Two days later I have a pulsation braking from 60-65 in the pedal. Not sure why, all hardware and attaching bolts are tight, brake hoses are not kinked. I need to take it apart and inspect it again. Great video!

To me it sounds like you may have gotten defective rotors, I’ve had this happen to me before. I went back to the parts store and had to replaced, and always try to get premium rotors if available. Some times rotors warp while sitting on the shelves especially if they store it vertically, it’s impossible to see with the naked eye because it’s tiny tiny increments of an inch. I hope that helps and let me know how it goes. Thanks for watching 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽

Excellent video!!! Bravo! But at the end you should “never” put anti-seize on your wheel studs. It will change your torque specs. I stripped out my studs using anti seize....

There are two small screws that go into the rotor. Do they absolutely need to be replaced? I might have to drill mine out. Need a quick answer.

I usually do and it’s best to. Usually the screws are just holding the rotor in, it’s easy to screw off and on. Thanks for watching 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽

I had the same problem and I called up my mechanic and he said you don't need the screw, if you need the same tightening effect temporarily for putting the caliper back on, just put a lug nut temporarily until you are done putting the brakes back together then remove the lug nut and put the tire back on.

No they do not they are called set screws and are put in at the factory to hold the rotor on during the assembly line they serve 0 purpose other than that and do NOT need to go back on.

Question! I'm replacing my girlfriend's rotors and discovered the rotors aren't connected with the screw that you loosened with the impact screwdriver. The rotor seems to be completely stable with the compressor and tire after it's been reassembled. How important is it that we find replacement screws? She's had zero issues previously with the screws missing. Appreciate the video!

Also, any advice for a stripped bolt for the rear rotor?
@schifoso
@schifoso Жыл бұрын
Don't worry about it. Those screws are only there for assembly at the factory. You don't need them, but they help hold the rotor on flush to the hub when you're putting the caliper back on.

This is beyond my diy level. Question : How long will rotor last for ? You would think its (solid) metal should last a very long time, why would brake pad material scratch it ?
@RoysGarage808
@RoysGarage808 2 жыл бұрын
How long your rotors will last depends on how you drive, they’ll last longer if you’re easy on your car. As for the brake pads scoring the rotor, it happens because of your brake pads hardening. I hope that answers your questions and thanks for watching 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
@Powerstroke98
@Powerstroke98 Жыл бұрын
As Roy mentioned in another post, rotors can warp, and that is where you'll feel a pulsation when braking, especially from a higher speed. Also, IF you are hard on your brakes, you can heat them up significantly, which isn't good for the rotors or the pads. It's why you should gently start slowing down a fair distance from the car in front of you when coming up to a red light.

It is not necessary to crack the bleeder screw when changing pads, I can see if your replacing a caliper to bleed it and then you should do the whole system really but why are you cracking the bleeder screw for changing the pads I've never been taught that ever nor have I ever heard of that? Not being rude generally want to know.
@RoysGarage808
@RoysGarage808 7 ай бұрын
Cracked the bleeder screw prior to taking off the mount so it’s easier to loosen it later when flushing and bleeding the brakes (towards the end of the video). Sometimes it’s hard to get it loose if you try to do it after taking everything off, I’ve come across some that are stuck. Thanks for watching 🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼
