Naked bikes can be so much fun! Coming from faired bikes (fz6r, gsxr750) and going to the fz8 was so much fun! You get a similar extra sense of speed like being in a very low to the ground sports car. YarekBalear ...also, p.s. when you've that much torque in almost any gear (apart from first), then a gear indicator is superfluous :P On my test ride, I was convinced the speedometer was in km/h, because it felt slow but I was flying past cars and realised I was actually travelling in mph :P

Quick note on the clutch and gear change issue you talked about. I have a 2015 Z1000 - basically identical to the one you tested. Absolutely agree with shifting that it seems that you need to be hard on it in order to feel solid tactile feedback. Here's something interesting though. I just did my first oil change and put in V300 instead of whatever factory crap they put in it. After doing that, shifting feels way better. The tactile piece of the equation is greatly improved. That being said, I'm only 100 or so miles into it, so maybe it will return to the old feel, but I thought it was worth noting. Engine also feels smoother. You stay classy.

You can find them new for the price of a Z1000 (or less), not hard at all. Might be last year's model but it's brand new still. Hell, I've seen a red/black 2011 Ninja 1000 brand new on Cycletrader for like $8,600 USD. I'd call them and say no way. I'd give them $7,500 out the door for it since it's 5 years old. If they are not close you can say you have to pay to have it shipped so $7,500 out the door is as high as you'll go. Back in 2011 when the Ninja 1000 came out the price was $10,999 USD. I got it for $8,299 USD because they weren't selling. Now you tell me they still didn't make a profit on the bike???!!!

No comparison. Z1000 beats the CRAP out of the FZ-09. You have no idea of the torque... it doesn't stop. The brakes and suspension are WAY better than the Yamaha. Why do you think the Yamaha is cheaper? They always skimp on brakes and suspension. Love my Ninja 1000 way more than I ever liked my FZ-1 also. Drop the fugly exhaust on the Kaw and you drop 30lbs. Only competition this bike has is the Honda naked 1000.

just got rid of my 2014 and trust me the torque does end on the Z ... The factory suspension setting is horrible in my opinion (feel every single bump n crack n the road) tried to get use to the idea of not having the instrument cluster in my peripheral. Get caught in a light rain be prepared to get soaked especially from the fat Rear tire . Having said this tho I love the look of it and it's low n mid range and yes u can def get into some serious trouble on it cause it's a wheelie monster . I got my 1st speeding ticket last summer (142mph in a 65) he let me go with a failure to obey traffic signal instead of taking me straight to jail which was cool of him considering I ran a red light as well... fun fun haha
