Thanks for a great video. I just did the install on a 8 year old 2014 MDX. Thanks to your video it took me longer to tap out the rusty bolt holes to mount the hitch than it did to do the rest of the install. Very complete video. Just wanted to add if you are doing this on an older MDX Grab a 14mm x 1.5 tap to bring the bolt hole treads back to life. Thanks again!!!

Glad it helped, and well done on tapping those holes, thanks for sharing your great feedback and tip.

Awesome video. So helpful. I just put a hitch on my 2020 mdx. Regarding the nut… the threads were not rusted but they were hard to engage w the bolts. A good wash w wd-40 and using a rag to get all of the dirt out helped big time. Thank you for this video. You made it so easy.

I just ended installing the hitch myself following the directions on this video. Absolutely excellent detailed instructions in every step of the way. including all the gotchas and howto. The only difference on my steps was I only unplugged the battery once I was ready to plug the cables on the fuse box and put the fuses in. The hitch looks so very cool! I watched this video at least 3 times and 2 more while going through the install process.

Thanks for the very super easy to follow video. We came across a problem with the hitch bolts not treading. The 2 closest to the bumper would only tap 3/4 of the way. We assumed the manufacturer didn’t tap all the way through. Cleaned the threads very well and we borrowed Tap from the auto parts store and CAREFULLY tapped the end/top of the treads. This allowed the bolt to fully top. This was the only hiccup (3 hours). Again, great instructional video, thank you

I just installed a hitch on my wife's 2014 MDX and your video was a huge help. I watched it twice before the install and then just followed the printed instructions. Very easy to do (although I did drop a couple of the plastic pins for the radiator/battery cover and can't find them in the engine abyss so I'll have to buy more). The video is dead on for every step. Thanks for making the job a lot easier!

Thanks so much for your excellent video. I had my hitch installed at the dealer but when I put my 7 to 4 adapter on, no running lights on the built in tester. The dealer had the upper 20 amp fuse in the wrong spot (one slot to the right). Relocated it to the proper slot as per your video and works perfect. You just saved me a trip back to the dealer, much appreciated.

Great video. Was buying an aftermarket hitch but I didn't like their lighting controller wires dangling out the rear door across my painted bumper. There are no fitment issues with the aftermarket hitch and the spare tire AFAIK. Plenty of videos showing the aftermarket hitch and the spare tire in place at the same time.

Appreciate your video. I am wondering if your hitch "controller" does perform any trailer brake control. I am looking into buying a 21' travel trailer (gross vehicle weight at 4000+ lbs) and there needs to be a trailer brake controller whereas one can tune the braking force on the trailer. Thanks!

I spent the whole afternoon installing this....1 hour for everything and 4 hours trying to get two bolts in the frame 😭 both holes closest to the bumper on both sides have so much rust I can not get them fully screwed in. Been blasting them with PB blaster and metal brushes all afternoon. Ahhh. Hey if you are planning on using a trailer with brakes make sure to install the 20amp block fuse (that comes with the kit) to the left of the 20amps you put in.
@AutoDIY Жыл бұрын
It is a shame Acura didn't think to put bolts or even plastic plug in the trailer mounting points to spare you the hassle of all that rust.

Great video on how too install. One question, is there a disadvantage to disconnecting the positive terminal rather than the negative terminal on the battery? On my 2016 Acura MDX, the positive terminal can be accessed without removing the plastic engine cover. Thanks again for posting the video.
@AutoDIY3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and taking the time to post your very good question. You always want to disconnect the negative first, if you don't you could cause an electrical short. Modern cars are rolling computers, and they are sensitive, expensive little beeoches about it. Always remove the negative first when disconnecting and attach the positive first when installing a new battery. Same is true if you ever need a jump start, connect the positive first, then negative. When you remove it negative comes off first, then positive. Best of luck on your install.

@RoughRidersTV6 жыл бұрын
I actually just did the transmission cooler a couple of weeks ago and captured it on video and posted on youtube. It was pretty easy as well. I hear the newer models 16+ is a lot more challenging because of the new 9 speed transmission and fluid is much more fickle in getting correct levels.

Thanks for this video. I'll be using it when I decide to purchase my own OEM hitch. I have run into a problem with my curt aftermarket hitch for my 14 mdx. I use a full sized spare rather than a donut. After installing the curt hitch I couldn't hoist up my full sized spare, the curt hitch impedes into the area where the tire goes. There isn't a problem with the donut going up, but since I am using a full spare, it looks like I'll have to move over to a donut/get an oem hitch. My question: Will a full sized spare (19 inch tech wheel) fit underneath the car with the OEM hitch?
@AutoDIY9 жыл бұрын
John H Sorry about my super slow response, I didn't get a notification of your comment. To answer your question, yes a full size spare should fit with this OEM hitch. There is about 2 inches of clearance between the standard compact spare and the hitch frame. The spare on the MDX is a 165/80/17, which is 27.4 inches in diameter. The tech package tire is a 245/55/19 which is 29.6 inches in diameter. So you should still have about an inch of clearance with a full sized spare and the OEM hitch.

Great video. Just what I was looking for. How do you make the OEM harness work with Yamaha trailer with surge breaks that has 5 pin connector? Also do you have a video for OEM ATF Cooler install for 2014?
@AutoDIY9 жыл бұрын
Dan Shin Thanks for the great feedback, you can get an adapter that plugs into the round port and has the connection you need for your trailer at any store that sells trailer parts, Amazon has them too, just search for "trailer adapter 7 to 5" or 7 to 4 or whatever your trailer has. I don't yet have a transmission cooler install video, but this is the second request for it, so it is on my to do list.
@danshin18519 жыл бұрын
Auto DIY I was told I needed 4 port to 5 port adapter and splice that directly to the reverse light cable. Is there another option that is simpler for 2014 MDX? I will be installing OEM kit. I was planning to do the atf cooler this weekend.. Will try to use installation document. Hard part looks to be when you reconnect the hoses.
@AutoDIY9 жыл бұрын
Dan Shin The harness from Acura will allow you to plug in a 5 pin flat blade adapter, you will not need to splice into the reverse line, not sure who told you to do that, but they were mistaken.
@danshin18519 жыл бұрын
Auto DIY Thank you. I realize that after seeing the wire harness. Your video was perfect help in getting my hitch and wire harness installed over the weekend. I did complete the ATF cooler install too but this took much more time mainly because it was so hard to get to.
