3 years ago I was finally able to buy the 2014 GT500 Track-Pack that I wanted for years and while it has more HP than the OEM Tires can deal with (bigger and better is a must) the Track-Pack is one of the better handling cars I've driven, BUT you hit the nail on the head when you said "it will kill you" as this is a "driver's car". That "rawness" and 6-Speed TR6060 is what makes it so fun to drive 💪😎 and if y'all buy one, opt for the Recaro Seats, upgrade the Shifter to an MGW Gen2 and find a good custom Tuner 🍻

The GT500 Recaro upgrade seat option solves the seating concerns you mention. Your repair concerns have never been an issue. In 11 years and 11,000 miles, I have had zero reliability issues with my 2013 GT500. Plenty of 3rd party interior upgrades are available. I run 335/30/20 tires on the back which helps with some of the traction issues. The stock sound is amazing. The intake has a muffler design which removes the normal supercharge wine. It's the best car regardless of the price I have ever owned. For less than $60k new it's the most fun you can own.

How much did it cost for the parts and labor? Since I have the track pack and SVT pack it would be a Torsen differential. Where would I source the parts? Thanks for any info you can provide. The "Crowd Killer" moniker is more likely due to the inexperience of its operators as well as the failure to recognize that cold super performance tires and pavement aren't a winning combination. The 13/14 GT500 is basically what the 69/70 Boss 429 was back in the muscle car heyday. This unit appears to be still for sale and seems to be well priced. Borla mufflers, pulley mods and an upgraded intercooler are a couple things I noticed as well as Nitto rubber with decent tread. I got one new in 2012 and still have it. I have only two things that bug me. The brakes simply underperform. The GT350R has overwhelming stopping power, and this could use some of it. Second, it's so powerful that unless you are mentally conditioned to respect its capabilities, bad things will happen. Very bad things. On the plus side, Carbon fiber driveshaft, 631 lbs. of torque at 4000 RPM and NO GAS GUZZLER TAX are the stuff dreams are made of. 100 MPH while turning only 2000 RPM, are you kidding me? I've done only a couple mods as I like to keep things as stock as possible. Factory rear seat delete (just like the Boss LS) and a set of Ford Racing mufflers. If I was looking for a car I was going to actually drive on a regular basis the 11/12 are more "Docile and Controllable" yet boast a 550 HP all aluminum engine which makes drivability much improved over the 07-09 models. Someday, years from now we'll look back on these and find it difficult to believe that Ford was somehow able to get this into production and make as many as they did. There's never been a better time in history to be a motorhead than right now. Great video, guys.

The pinnacle of American Muscle 13-14 GT500 I disagree with your take on the GT500, I think it’s meant to look old school and classic. The seats on the SVT track are amazing, and really keep you glued to the car. I also feel the Brembo’s upfront is all you need, def gets the car to stop at the drop of a dime. The newer ones don’t compare IMO

I have owned a handful of Shelby's of this era of mustang. The 07-14 gt500 left room on the table for Shelby American to improve and build their super snake package/Shelby 1000 package. I had the privilege to own a 2013 gt500 super snake and that car is an absolute riot. The super snakes now are built off of the mustang gt with the 5.0 which aren't quite as special as the 07-14 gt500 super snakes. Yes they are still great cars, but its just something about the body style of the s197 platform and the grunt from the 5.4/5.8. Not too mention the 5.4/5.8 just sound better than the 5.0. The new gt500 is already a good platform that Shelby can't change much to make them much better for the price tag that the super snake package costs. The KR is a sweet car but it makes sense why it was very limited production. You will not be disappointed with the 13-14 gt500 if you decide to go this route. Find one with recaro seats, glass roof, shaker 1000 audio system and call it a day. They are very reliable and a lot of companies make parts for the car to improve such as brakes, cooling, shifters, etc... These cars for the time period could be had from 50k-70k and would run with European exotics. Shelby always tried to build cars for the blue collar people. I don’t like hearing anything negative about these classic cars. I think you may want to know a little more about them before knocking them. They were built specifically with intention & a purpose; and they are exactly what they were intended to be. The ‘13/14 was focused on a 200mph+ car & 0-60 times. For those of us who were here and remember the original muscle cars from the late 60’s, the S197[s are the last tribute to them. This was not intended to appeal to the track car crowd. American muscle cars & European cars were polar opposites; as different as night and day,.back in the 60’s. Over the years, both have merged the 2 technologies, strengths, & incorporated the best of both worlds. I appreciate this model reflecting its origin in the high performance street racing world, Carroll Shelby. Once he passed away; Ford went independent suspension & European style to expand their market share internationally to increase sales as opposed to sticking with traditional roots. I am remaining old school. The GT350 is an excellent car, but made to race a Porsche on the track straight out of the box. Great car, different focus. Newer GT500 (S550) trying to be the best of track & muscle, and really fell short in both worlds. S197 Shelbys GT500’s are the ultimate in tradition - the muscle car. The GT350R track contender - well balanced, tight suspension, not too heavy. 2020+ GT500 - good at both but not best at either. Too heavy, eats tires, drinks too much gas. For me, I’m staying old school with the 2011-2014 Shelby GT500. They will be highly sought after and ultimately worth more than the current S550 automatic transmission version. 3 Totally individual & unique Shelbys.

Ford did think about brake cooling. Remember the '08/'09 KR? I don't know about the '13/'14, but the '10 = '12 has the ports for the optional front brake cooling kit from the KR. You just have to drill out the holes in the ports, and the kit is plug-n-play from there. All the mount points are built-in. That's a little known and mostly forgotten feature of those GT500s.

Great enthusiasm guys on this episode, however you need to do more research before you do something like this. You talked a lot about how the 2014 GT500 is nothing but a one-trick pony however if you would have looked just simply on Google you would realize that even though this car had a straight axle, it actually outperformed lateral G's compared to the almighty track God the Corvette for the same year. Also there are multiple videos that were done by Ford Racing talking about all of the amazing technology and airflow that was put into this vehicle in order to achieve over 200 mph off the showroom floor. Going back to talking about handling with this vehicle, you should both understand that achieving 1.14 G's laterally with a vehicle that has a live stick axle is truly incredible. It is also amazing that I believe you two did not mention the fact that this car actually had launch control as a stick shift vehicle. That was a major first. One last thing that I feel that should be noted with the 13 - 14 GT500 is the fact that the interior, including the dash and center console etc, had remarkably low NVH. ( with exception to the rearview mirror.. common known issue that you could fix easily if you knew what to do) Other sports cars built in 13-14 were still squeaky, rattled, dash made noise over bumps.. The 14 GT500 I had was incredibly quiet as far as interior noise.

I thought that the Mustangs (including Shelby's versions of it) was never a muscle car. Big cars with big blocks (400+cui) were muscle cars. Whereas mustangs were considered pony cars? I also hear a lot of the younger generation refer to them as sports cars, which I thought Miata's were more of the sports car.

Good point. That might be why we said we are far from experts on these in the video.

Cool video, but yeah, the title is false. The 2020-2022 GT500s are better in multiple areas.

@@PerformanceOnWheelsI guess I don’t understand how the current GT500 is no longer a muscle car. Again, cool video, but a GT500 is a GT500
@PerformanceOnWheels4 ай бұрын
For sure. Current gt500 to us, is a dramatically different car. Can exceed at multiple laps on a track versus just hitting numbers on a lap or two. Previous GT500 was more muscle, current GT500 is more track. The difference in opinion is completely fine.

What defines a Muscle Car? SRA, poor handling (which I wouldn't call a S197 Mustang a poor handling car especially your 2010+ cars) how about you have to weight 3,500+ lbs and rock 400+ ci's or more or your just have a pony car? Maybe only OHV engine cars can be muscle cars? Does F/R weight distrabution define a muscle car or otherwise? Basically I'm asking why would we consider a S197 a muscle car, and not a S550 car? Both the S197's and S550's origins date back to the DEW98 arcitecture. Both are overbudgeted, and mediocre platforms at best, that can be made to perform well with their large aftermarketd. Ford just added an IRS, and some goofy double ball jointed setup up front on a S550 that Ford claimed was neccessary, yet GM's Alpha uses a traditionally front strut design, and it's a far superior platform to S550. Even in stock coupe form a Terminator is a very flat cornering car, especially for one built on a SN95 chassis. Is it a muscle car? My 03 Cobra has the same weight distrabution as my 03 Lightning, and the Terminator is a understeering pig when push at it's limits, but it corners flat while doing it. Are Terminators Muscle cars? Certainly my 19 1SS 1LE can't be a muscle car, or maybe it's a muscle car that puts a lot of sports cars to shame in a corner? I just get tired of how loosly people throw out claims of any given model being a muscle car when it suites them, then the next minute it, "Mustangs have gotten to ve so good at handling that they're no longer muscle cars, they're sports cars." It's ridulious just how loosly the definition of the GEN5 and GEN6 Mustang and Camaro gets thrown around. Is a S550 GT500 a better performing, better handling car than a 13/14 GT500? Sure, but it's a newer more modern, more expensive car rock things like MRC, DCT, very sticky Michelin Pilot SC2's on the carbon models, as opposed to GY Eagle Supercar2's on the 13/14 cars. For it's era the 13/14 cars were capable of producing some pretty capable lap times. I think a 1:37 or 1:38 around Laguna Sega. Sub-3:00 around VIR. Sub-7:40 around the Ring. These times are faster than the times a stock non-Centennial C6 Z06 on GY run-flats put down at those same tracks.
