Michael Felix I drive a 2013 Ford Mustang GT Premium Manual with Brembos and the California spoiler, side louvers, and scoops, Roush axlebacks and K&N intake with a 93 octane tune, Ford Performance shifter and bracket. I would daily anything I love. I'd rather enjoy every day of driving something awesome that I love and have many more hours of enjoyment than stash something so I can preserve it's value, why buy a car you want to love if your only going to stash it in a garage so you can sell it. I've got two sets of Brembo wheels for my Mustang, one set has Michelin Pilot Super Sports, the other set has Michelin X-ice X3 winter tires, because I daily drive through New England winters too. The car is awesome even in 6 inches of snow. I wax the car multiple times a years and do certain things to help preserve it like I installed an xpel headlight and fog light protection film. After 10 years just get the front bumper and hood repainted to match. I did this with my 1994 Cobra I had for 13 years.
@karag65566 жыл бұрын
Michael Felix Yah the 94 Cobra got traded in for $9000 with 97k miles wish I could afford to have kept it, but it was time to upgrade, the 13-14 is everything I wanted a Mustang to be, I love the live axle Mustangs. To me it's more of a muscle car. Always wanted to put a tremec 6 speed and build the 5.0 windsor to 400hp but it would have costed so much money, upgrading was better to me, the 13 has better suspension, tech, paint etc, lol and the clutch doesn't make one leg stronger than the other ha ha ha I got the 13 for $27k with 24k miles on it, already had all the mods I listed and more, car was 100% exactly every option I would have picked if it was new. But yah imo life's too short to worry about dirt on a car, gotta live it up!

cool car... but those brakes are waaaaaay undersized for that car.
@ICECUBE6828 жыл бұрын
no they aren't, back brakes are only dealing with small procentage of breaking and size doesn't really define breaking power. maybe you think they are small becouse german automakers started this trend off big brakes all around and the reason is it looks better but that doesn't make the brakes any better. I'm 100% sure that these brakes are great and sufficient.
@BelowAverageRazzleDazzle8 жыл бұрын
I disagree. Smaller brakes means less surface area for pad/rotor contact. That means less friction which means less stopping power. If what you say were true the F1 race cars would have the same size brakes as a Ford Taurus. We both know that's not true. It's got nothing to do with looks. There is a direct correlation between brake surface area and stopping power.

There small in the rear because that is all that is needed. Same situation on dirt bikes, Huge disc brakes on the front, and small ones on the back and yet you still have tons of braking power in the back to lock the tire up

Not at 100+ mph you don't. That's not enough brake for that kind of speed.

These brakes are definetely NOT undersized, unless you THINK you are an Automotive Engineer. And even if you want to upgrade, American Muscle now has Carbon Ceramic front and rear brakes for 13-14 GT500s (384820 front for $78.90, 384206 rear for $51.82).

200 mph was NEVER the goal for this car. Ford built the PRODUCTION car. After it was built, wondered how fast it would go? It's just that simple. The Super Snake was never a production car. It's an aftermarket specialty car, like many others.

UPDATE: Today a 2015 Challenger Hellcat Test was posted by Motor Trend ...............I wonder why a apples to apples comparison wasn't done or mentioned ?? K&N Dyno wasn't used and no mention of the 11.7 second 1/4 mile times versus the Dodge Commercial NHRA certified times. I know it was different track conditions , drivers , track etc ..................but i still see a huge difference between 11.2sec. vs 11.7 sec.

@christophermclendon220810 жыл бұрын
Matt ... Agreed . The C-6 Corvette Z06 with 505 hp ran consistent 11.7 sec 1/4 mile times and it's lack of weight and gearing contribute to that ability. With 4400 + lbs and 700 + hp i didn't see a HELLCAT Challenger running Corvette ZR1 , Dodge SRT Viper , Nissan GT-R times . But i concur with your thought process.

One thing you morons aren't realizing is that yes motortrend got an 11.7. Most amazing part is they started in 2nd gear. To run a 11.7 while taking off in second gear is beyond amazing. it's not that it can't do better then 11.7, it's just hard to get traction. If the car came with better tires, it would help big time. Show me any other car that takes off in second gear and runs an 11 second qtr! Dodge messed up by giving the hellcat such crappy skinny tires. They gave it the regular pirelli which are garbage. They should have at least put the corsas on it. It would make at huge difference

This car is about as aerodynamic as a brick, and can knock out 200mph, yet folks want to talk about the European cars and how good they are (some are good), yet they cost three times as much, and are only marginally faster. So are you going to pay 180k plus just for a name and a car that can turn or save that money, get a Shelby and a good down payment on a house? Fastest way between two points is a straight line, so I'm going to leave my new house in my new Shelby and tear up some asphalt

***** It had overheating problems in a fucking race that was 24 hours long, I have never heard of the C7 sliding out that is just plain bullshit, and the Cobra is from the 1960s so excuse the primitive breaks and lack of safety (every goddamn car in that decade lacked safety). American cars are made for American roads, so that means that they are not perfected because they are not as good on European roads? Your facts and your logic are both flawed, stop arguing and stop hating. You act as if every European car ever made has been handcrafted by God himself.

Here in europe that Porsche is absolutely not triple the price. I don't know what the Shelby costs here but as somewhat of a guideline to the difference in car prices here compared to in America; i saw a brand new Hellcat at some fancy dealership and they wanted the equivalent of about $90.000 for it. American sports/supercars over here are generally not really cheaper than their european rivals.

drfaticus F-gm Not surprised to see F-gm in your username. The only place a GT500 is faster than a ZL1 is in a straight line. Camaro's faster everywhere else. Better brakes, and way better suspension.
@2013FiveOh11 жыл бұрын
5571350M8 Actually the GT500 posted better lap times around Laguna Seca as well as the Nordschleife. The S197 handling characteristics are more balanced than the 5th gens. As for brakes, nobody road races on the stock brake setup unless we're talking about factory carbon ceramics here. Stock brakes are good to prove the vehicle can perform a certain lap time, but they do fade. They're not race brakes, they're designed to be reliable without being warmed up first. Racing brake pad compounds work best under high heat, which isn't exactly optimal for a panic brake on public roads. Somebody having to explain this to you shows your ignorance, and the fact is, the only reason the ZL1 shows less brake fade is because it's so much slower entering the braking zones in the first place.
@5571350M811 жыл бұрын
2013FiveOh My point was that its stock brakes are better. And as far as the Ring time goes, nothing official has been released, so I'd say that's probably out of shame. Your last sentence? Sure. Now the engine. The desleeved 5.4L with iron nanocoating. Ford couldn't even do it themselves, and I'd say it's failed technology. Benz proved this in the 80's. It's just problematic, and if a GT500 owner damages even one cylinder? Time for a new engine.
@Trades4610 жыл бұрын
Mustangs need better brake cooling, or just better brakes. Camaro ZL1 & Z28 don't suffer braking issues as much as the Stang and Camaros weigh more. That's not right. Also, I feel that the Mustang isn't even an ideal car to enter the 200mph club. It's too big, too bulky. A great muscle car to go cruising, racing & tracking, but not break speed records.
@cobramanphil10 жыл бұрын
That is the beauty of it all. The Shelby is definitely a muscle car. Traditional classification is that this car should only be good for short quarter mile runs..but performance has stepped up a notch and now we see it going for the 200mph runs. It is not like the brakes are bad on the Shelby. A compromise had to be made because the Shelby "is" a street car and it needs street compound pads (which work great on the street btw). Ford could of put more aggressive compound pads on the Shelby, but it would run into the same issues the ZL1s are having now running aggressive pads on the street (mega dust and poor cold braking performance).

This is America we mainly race straights not turns so you want a true American muscle car its not the ZL1 or the Z28 Chevy built those cars for track the only thing that comes even close to the Chevy ZL1 on the track that comes close to track times that ford has built would be the 302 boss track pack which was just shy of beating the ZL1 by a couple seconds. You might think that its pretty bad for fords track car vs chevy's is bad but also take into consideration that the 302 is the equivalent to the 5.0 and is just modded for handling and is naturally aspirated vs the ZL1 which is not since its 6.2L supercharged (302 boss 5.0L naturally aspirated).
@pauljs7510 жыл бұрын
Has power, the aerodynamics aren't helping it. There are Corvettes can push it there, but they're streamlined. The Mustang is more brick-like. The 205MPH Silverstate Classic Grand National is even more brick-shaped than the Mustang, however I'd suspect that car has somewhat less frontal surface area. Chop the roof on the Mustang (less frontal area), and it should be able to get there.
@cobramanphil10 жыл бұрын
pauljs75 You'd be surprised how much wind tunnel testing the '13 Shelby went through to be capable to reach 200mph. From my understanding the front area wasn't a "brick type" issue that was holding it back. It was the lower ('12 and older) valance that was holding it back. The '13 Shelby has the newer air splitter in front and that enabled it to reach the 200mph goal (from what I was told).
