After spending a ridiculous amount of time chasing a continuous problem with plugs fouling on #1 on my 5.3L Silverado, I finally installed a Range Tech module to lock out the AFM shutting down 4 cylinders. 6 months later and no fouling or misfires I pulled #1 to check. No fouling. No problem. UGH. Thank you Chevy for owning up to an obvious problem with your ^%$%^$$$AFM system. Can you imagine all the recalls if they actually admitted that their AFM system was causing premature engine problems, code problems and failure to pass inspections. Yeah right.

And the AFM debacle continues. Many miles ago I plugged in a Range Technologies AFM module (OBD port). Keeps it on all 8 cylinders all the time. 2011 5.3 @115k miles, so far so good.

Governments forced manufacturers to make their vehicles more fuel efficient. What they didn't enforce is a way to show those same vehicles are durable. Manufacturers don't complain, they get to make more new vehicles, and their main competition, old cars, are gone. In the end, overall environmental costs rise because cars don't last as long. It's a win for manufacturers, an overall loss to the environment and consumers.

How long did it take you to complete the job, I had a service engine code once stating the same problem and same cylinder, I took it to the dealer and left it, while I went to work, the dealership notified me that the truck was fine, it just had a loose spark plug wire, it seems strange that it took them all day to repair the rough idle issue I had, and since I just discovered your video, I wonder if my dealership had to perform the same diagnoses and repair as you did? Great video!!!!!!!
@fsteddie985 жыл бұрын
The job takes about 6 - 8 hours to complete. If your resurfacing the head which I didn't it will take longer because you would have to wait for the machine shop to finish before you can put it back together.. thanks for your feedback

I appreciate your quick response, and insight to what a job like this would involve, so maybe the dealership was being honest when they told me the spark plug wire worked loose. Again great video, and thanks for answering my question!!!!

What does a job like this usually run price wise? I’m pretty sure I had this happen to me on the way to work today, getting on the freeway under acceleration not wide open and CEL starts flashing, rpms are jerky/sluggish just below 3k like they don’t want to climb. Idk I’ll be in the shop tomorrow this sucks though.

Labor for replacement of one or all active lifers on one bank is about 12 hours it can run you about $1200 to $1500 plus parts

@@fsteddie98 yes it’s constant it was worse but I had changed all the spark plugs, wires, & coil on the 6th cylinder. The misfire isn’t that bad but still there. Didn’t smoke until I changed all those parts
