2017 GM Truck 5.3 Misfire And Engine Tick

Another 5.3 with pushrod bent and broken lifter.

Thanks for bringing awareness to ticking sounds. My DOHC engine has ticked for as long as I can remember. Now I'm going to have to do something to see if it's a bent pushrod or collapsed lifter. Maybe use a stethoscope or something. I don't know if I can do it as a DIYer. There's some good shops in my area at least.

Btw it turned out to be nothing. The ticking is just light and quiet, normal lifter noise. This video did give me a good comparison though.

My customer was able to get GM to good will 50% of the cost on this one. On the one I changed the engine on it had over 300K and was an undercover police truck with a ton of idle time. They found a used engine with 60k. I did a 16 this summer but that turned into a shit show...

It probably has to do with AFM/DOD/DFM system. It was a good idea, but the parts quality is just not there yet. Also, what kind of engineer designs an engine that requires xylinder heads to be pulled to change lifters? Not impressed with that. Wasn't that figured out by Chevrolet back in the 50's ? 😢😢😢

that would be a great engine if GM would lay off the DOD system on those v 8's

Yes some engine codes disable stabiitrac.

@@PhillipBailey lots of guys have been doing it by unplugging the steering wheel sensor, I’d assume he did it too because he still has ABS.
