That is a very disingenuous description of what happenned in 2014. No mention of the fact that the country is divided, with the west being pro EU, and the East being pro-Russia. The fact that Yanukovich won a second time is a clear sign that at least the East half of the country wanted to be closer to Russia. The mass protests were conducted, not by the majority of ukranians, but by the Western half. Also no mention of the far right´s part in those protests, or the investigation that proved the sniper shots coming from the opposite side of the police, from a building occupied by members of Sektor Right. Do better.

Great video. I've also heard a few pieces of information from other analysts. Crimea is home to the city of Sevastopol, where Russia's Black Sea Fleet is based. This port city is important because it is the only port that remains ice free year round for the Russian Navy to operate from. While Russia's Navy is probably not it's strongest military branch, having one branch of your military being unable to operate for half a year because of the weather isn't a good thing at all. Russia was leasing the port from Ukraine at the time of the protests. With the resulting change of government, Russia was uncertain if any new likely pro-EU government would let Russia continue to lease the port, and this uncertainty could have been a major reason for Russia to move the o annex Crimea. But there is also another reason. A few years before 2014, large reserves of oil and natural gas were discovered in Ukraine, so large in fact that Ukraine suddenly had the 14th largest natural gas reserves in the world. Many of the oil and natural gas reserves were located off the coast of Crimea. Now, the Russian government is majority funded by, and the Russian economy is essentially built up on the sale of natural gas and oil. If Ukraine were to develop their oil and natural gas reserves, Russia's oil and natural gas customers could decide to instead buy Ukrainian oil and natural gas, threatening the Russian government and economy. Plus, with Russia largely funded by the sale of oil and natural gas, Russia could always use more oil and natural gas to sell.

Victoria Nuland Wikileaks is a big left out part lol. For those who don’t know I’ll sum it up. The US state department with Victoria Nuland hand picked which Ukrainian person would be able to take which ‘elected office’..... there is a leaked phone call where she does this with another US state department rep. Aka - USA is hand picking ‘elected officials’ in a ‘parliamentary democracy’..... it’s a fraud. Add the rejected IMF loan/debt/hyper interest rate deal Yanokovich rejected prior to the well funded riots of Maidan and you have a confessions of an economic hit man situation/pressure Russia at the border situation all controlled by USA (likely our deep state CIA not our own puppet elected leaders). Convenient to leave all of that out, lol. Worst part is the content creator here clearly KNOWS all of this already.... he just deliberately doesn’t tell us. And look - none of this is about blindly supporting Russia or bashing USA, I am American and I love my country.... this is about being truthful about what is happening. An honest accounting. If us Americans can’t recognize that we are hijacked by economic neo imperial interest then we are being dishonest and we are destined to servitude. We have the responsibility to question our leaders and learn the truth about major situations. WE are the super power, that comes with immense responsibilities and the need for transparency IF we are going to parade around like we are truly a ‘democratic republic’.... otherwise we are just fake liars hijackded by criminals usurping our international prestige and honest military might. We have a constitution. But back to our Content Creator here - his target audience is people looking to learn about the conflict with little other source material. Here is mine: 1.”Ukraine on Fire” by Oliver Stone 2.“Confessions of an Economic Hitman” by John Perkins 3. The leaked phone call with Victoria Nuland/US State Department And secondary sources which fill in the blanks and give us a deep historical context: 1. President Dwight Eisenhower’s last speech about the Military Industrial Complex 2. Major General Smedley Butler’s account to Congress about a corporate fascist state pulling the strings and conducting wars for private racketeering economic purposes.

This recommended closure was promulgated by ICAO in April to which many regulators responded. There is a Guardian article saying that MH17 came down in different airspace, but that is not true. I specifically remember the routing we had to take. However, Dnipro Radar would often give us vectors through that airspace, which would have to decline. @@westrim Malaysian Airlines and the Malaysian CAA are not the victims, but they are responsible. They are the groups responsible for not making the airspace out of bounds. Even where that airspace was prohibited, we still had the odd crew who were not paying attention and accepted routings through the airspace, so that is on those crew for the callous risks they took. Had a neighbor in the 2000s who'd worked in the Soviet Ministry of Defense, she said - one key reason the Ukrainians gave the nukes to Moscow - they couldn't fire them*. Moscow, unsurprisingly, kept launch control in its hands. So, they were simply very large, radioactive paperweights that Ukraine couldn't use and, in any event, couldn't afford to maintain, even if they had the launch codes. *yes, potentially, the plutonium, uranium could have been removed from the warheads and used to construct new devices but this was beyond Ukraine's financial and technical ability. The real fear of everyone - US, Russia, NATO - was that the said elements would be sold to the highest bidder - Pakistan, N Korea, Iran, etc. Interesting story about Iran - they have 3 Soviet era warheads. The Russian mafia stole them and then sold them to the Mullahs. Once again, the Iranians didn't have the launch codes and were unable to crack the encryption.

Which is just a gross misunderstanding of the events that took place. You could paint it either way but the actions of the players and of the people doesn’t make it difficult to get to a accurate portrayal of what happened in 2014
@barryludwikowski9892 жыл бұрын
Assuming your American, what had been completely left out of the discussion is the fact that everything that happened in Ukraine all the way back to 2004 was urged and supported, and at times downright instigated, by my country (US) for the singular purpose of weakening Russia because that country (along with China) represented a threat to our unipolar dominance; even if it meant starting a war in Ukraine. This surreptitious ambition had its inception all the way to the start of the so-called cold war with CIA Operation Aerodynamic and intensified during the first Clinton administration with the infamous 'Wolfowitz Doctrine' and has been constantly evolving ever since. As early as 2008 at Bucharest Romania, Ukraine (and Georgia) were promised to be admitted into NATO, something that Putin and numerous American political figures denounced as something that would lead to big trouble. Explain why on the night of the 'Maidan' in 2014 an American political appointee (Under Sec Victoria Nuland) was caught on a leaked phone call endorsing Arseiny Yatsenyuk (she referred to him as "Yats is our man") for new PM? What business is that of hers, or any American for that matter? By the way, the overthrow of the Ukrainian government to one which is west friendly and hates everything Russian was the direct inspiration for Putin's plebiscite to bring Crimea back to Russia, fearing that the Sevastopol naval base which was Russian since 1783 would become a new port of call for the US 6th fleet (which was in the works). What pisses me off is my country playing the hypocrite going all over the world peeing in everyone's pool, something the founders of this country strictly admonished against, as if such stuff matters anymore. www.theguardian.com/world/video/2014/feb/07/eu-us-diplomat-victoria-nuland-phonecall-leaked-video Nuland's speech ‘F**k the EU’: US diplomat Victoria Nuland's phonecall leaked - video kzbin.info/www/bejne/qIG5pGiMqq5rjqs www.medialens.org/2022/doubling-down-on-double-standards-the-ukraine-propaganda-blitz/? All the drama and soap operatics were carefully crafted with the inspiration and leadership of my country - and that f_____g stinks. Are we not continuously preached to how the US respects the sovereignty of other nations? We're continually sending billions of dollars (printed inflationary money) to a European shithole that has absolutely nothing to do with US security, while Florida has to kiss Washington's ass for aid following the destruction caused by Ian. @Morozilka122 жыл бұрын
There is quite a lot of omissions and inaccuracies in your video, though it definitely gives mere perspective to the current conflict. I'll point out just a few which are rather important. First of all, in February Yanukovich left Kyiv but not Ukraine. At least not at first. February 21 he signed a treaty (Crisis Management Treaty) with the opposition (Vitaly Klitchko, Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Oleg Tyagnibok) under the supervision of the German and Polish representatives - Frank-Walter Steinmayer, Radoslav Sikorski and Eric Fournier (France). By the terms of the treaty the President should have had his authority cut on behalf of the Parliament, so that Ukrainian constitution was restored to its 2004 version. Yanukovich also agreed to hold early Presidential election no later than December same year. Same evening he left for Kharkov to join a planned meeting. Next day 112 Channel airs his speech where he declined to sign any parliamentary decision. A couple hours later the Parliament signed a document that proclaimed him to "unconstitutional dereliction of duty" and moved Alexander Turchinov (not holding any political post at the time) for Ukrainian Rada Speaker. Same day, after the meeting had been cancelled, Yanukovich left for Donetsk for another meeting, and then for Crimea though between the two, it is told that he's ben evacuated to Krasnodar, Russia, by helicopter. Anyway, while he was in Crimea, SBU (Ukraine's Defence Bureau, equal to Russian FSB or American CIA) moved in to arrest him in company with Alpha and Falcon special ops units. February 23 - Turchinov proclaims himself Acting President until the elections in May. A move that Russia to this day considers a coupt. And only the next day, February 24 Yanukovich leaves for Russia. As for the Russian Forces moving in to secure Crimea. There has been a treaty between Russia and Ukraine to split bases in Crimea as well as armaments, so a contingent of Russia's Black Sea Fleet had been the from 1997 on till 2017 with a possible prolongation. This contingent included "up to 25,000 troops, 24 artillery systems, 132 armored vehicles, and 22 military planes on the Crimean Peninsula". So, despite that little is known for sure, there was no need for any other Russian military force to cross the border and get to Crimea to bolster the marines.

Glad I found this. I've read up on it online, but this summarises it nicely. I have now heard both sides of the argument on the break away republics, Orange Revolution, etc...the 'Coles notes' versions, anyway. You don't mention any involvement by the West, specifically the US in the two 'revolutions', but the fact that there were protests and popular support for the move toward the EU is always ignored by the 'pro Russia' side of this argument, calling the change in governments 'coupes'...but clearly they were not, as far as I can tell. Without the involvement of Russia the breakaways would not have had a chance, without the support of the West the Orange and Dignity revolutions probably still would have happened; Ukraine would still be moving toward the EU and away from Russia, it seems.

In January 2014 support in Ukraine for joining the EU was at 41%. The idea that the Ukrainian president had a clear cut choice to make between the EU and Russia is wrong. You only need to read the Ukraine/EU association agreement which allowed EU good tax free access into Ukraine. All Ukraine got in exchange was visa free access into the EU for their citizens. At the same time there was no customs border between Ukraine, Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan - which meant EU goods entering Ukraine tax free could be dumped in Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan. The most obvious fact is that since the coup and signing of the EU Association agreement had no visible economic impact.
@roberttaylor3594 Жыл бұрын
@@michaelotieno6524 I read up on it as you suggested and couldn’t find the tax free access for EU countries in there… I found references to moving toward a tarrif free trade agreement, which is not the same thing. Also; not really a “ coup” as far as I can see.

Guadalcanal was two heavies and their escorts in a knife fight, the American force was losing badly, with most of the esorts mission-killed if not outright sunk, and the battleship South Dakota crippled and unable to call for help bc the electrical problems ... and then the other American battleship that nobody had noticed got close enough to visually identify which battleship-sized radar blip was which.

They did not staggeringly “ inherit”1700 nuclear weapons! These weapons are not bullets, they are complex bombs which were only sited in Ukraine but fire controls were controlled by Russia. It’s like saying Turkey has rights over US nuclear bombs sites at Incirlik.

Thank you so much for covering this. I was a little frustrated at the beginning of this invasion by how many people in the west actually believed that not only this was the start of the war but also that it in any way understandable or justified. “NATO expansion” “nazis” and other bullshit pro-russian points. My home country is now a case study of what happens when civilised world doesn’t react to such aggression decisively. This is what Russia does and always did: test waters. They try something, they check out what the world does. And if it works out fine - try something bigger next time. And I’m grateful for the worlds support. Helping Ukraine fight for our sovereignty - is fighting for a world where authoritarian regimes cannot just stroll anywhere and annex anything they want while bullying the world with threat of “nuclear escalation”.

Separate note about Donbas. My best friend is a refugee from there. Most of those “separatists” were either russian soldiers, mercenaries or local bandits armed by Russia. My friend says that in 2014 she saw hundreds of buses without numbers full of dudes riding in Donetsk. Her father was a police officer. Those “Donetsk separatists” being what they are - bandits who had beef with previous policemen, tortured him and pulled his teeth and fingernails off to make him confess he’s a “nazi”. Her mom and grandmother are still there. Still secretly pro Ukrainian. Telling how mercenaries set artillery in residential areas, fire and then run away to then have that area bombed back and accuse Ukraine. Also they are living Without water without electricity without police without banking systems and pensions. But with Russian flags, yaay. Those are not a “Russian speaking minority oppressed by Ukrainians and fighting for their freedom”. Those are Ukrainians being held hostage by bandits, mercenaries and russian soldiers.

@@Huvpalto it's amazing how many people actually believe ruzzian revisionist history. It honestly just blows my mind. I'm Ukrainian by heritage and have tried to keep. But it's been obvious from the start who the real fascists are in this conflict. And it's almost like to the reich wing here in the west that ruzzia has never lied before lol. Also, anyone who's been paying attention the azov they try to portray as far right neonazis, are just Ukrainian nationalists who were literally created in a direct response to ruzzian oppression and constant involvement. Like who would have thunk, that ruzzian extremists and violence from an oligarch would lead to an extremist response. Also which country out Ukraine and ruzzia have had numerous fair and free elections, and constant anti corruption campaigns that have actually worked? There is a reason losers like Tucker Carlson and Marjorie Traitor Greene support and simp far "The Little Father". And I guarantee if it were an Islamic country attacking Ukraine, they would be screaming to put boots on tbe ground because it's brown people to them.

Thats wrong history lesson. Crimea is Ukraines land becase it is internationally recognized so. Crimea originally was part of Roman empire, then Mongol empire, only then part of Ottoman empire. So if you choose random time in history and judge things this way, Turkey doesn't exist as it's part of Italy.

Too late now but at the time, referendums with international observers on Donetsk and Lushansk over autonomy may have been the best option. Now, who knows? Too many people have fled. This will be a long and costly war for everyone involved

In 2014 Ukraine as a free country decided to establish more ties and opportunities with EU. Janukovich who were Putin’s paid man, like Belarus «leader, had to go as part of a democratic decision. This did not the Russian dictator like, and therfore he started to covardly invade by using so-called separatists. And so it went. All Ukraine wanted was to look to EU for developing which they have all rights to do. They did not want to be a slave for a dictator with no free media or opinions. Go Ukraine!
