I have a 2014 Jeep wrangler 4 door. That i drive as my daily car. The 3.21 gears that were on the jeep were fine for stock tires. But on 35s, it just was not good enough. I had Lindale Custom Jeeps in Lindale Tx. Install a set of 4.56 gears, front Lunch Box locker, and rear Eaton Truetrak.

Your scenario is almost identical to mine. I will be swapping them out when it cools down here in TX. Only difference is I am going 5.13 because i plan on going to 37s in the future. Thanks for the video.

I may eventually go to 37s. But want to get a D44 for the front end before I do that. And I feel like the 4.56s would still be fine for 37s. I figured if I really needed more power it would be a good excuse to do something like the RIPP supercharger. With 35s I can still squeeze into my garage though. I clear by like an inch or two. I'm in East TX so I feel ya about the heat!

@@andresniederhofer8602 Yeah I didnt factor in the fact that I have a manual transmission when I bought gears. I probably could have gone higher (lower numerically). I already have them so I am committed. I might just take a page out of your playbook and eventually build this thing into a monster with 40s and a RIPP.

Very informative video! I appreciate it! I’ve added a lot of weight to my Jeep and it’s been feeling sluggish compared to what it was stock. It’s currently running 32” on 3.21 and I’ve been planning on upgrading my tires to 35” but unsure what to re-gear to. Looks like your 4.56 are doing well. How have you felt since this video?

Sorry for the delay in responding. Got super busy with work. But ive taken it on a couple road trips and have pulled my boat with it. And I 100% would recommend the set up. I have noticed that it likes 70mph. 75+ is no problem. But mpg starts going down. Normal 70mph driving I get about 17ish. I have also gone wheeling 2 times. Running pretty tough trails and crawling up steep rock cliffs. And it pretty much just idles up.

100% if you do a lot of highway and never tow anything, don't have heavy metal bumpers and tire carriers winch that kinda stuff. Or anything smaller than a 35" tire. Than go 4.10. 35 or 37 4.56 is the way to go.

@andresniederhofer8602 2 жыл бұрын
If your jeep has the 3.21 gears then you will also need the carriers. If you have 3.73s then no issues with your carrier. I would 100% recommend it. Been wheeling with it enough and enough open highway I love it. I can it the cruise at 70 and forget about it and it will usually get 17mpg. We don't have huge mountains here. But even in Arkansas in the Ozarks it was getting close to 17. If you run 75+ alot or not running at least 35s. That would be the only reason I would maybe go a different route.

@andresniederhofer8602 2 жыл бұрын
Howdy neighbor! No personal experience with the 6 speed and 35s. Mostly for your neck of the woods that is pretty flat. I think as long as your not planning on going bigger in the future. I think 4.10s would be fine. 4.56 would probably be a little better pick up and go and still have a decent highway gear mostly sense your 6th is a higher ratio than our 5th in the auto.
@worthey1969
@worthey1969 2 жыл бұрын
6 gear is really low unless I'm going 65mph I can't use it and going up a hill I have to grab 5 gear so I don't know much about gearing I know I don't want to bog down but I'm not wanting to run 3k on the highway either. So I have no idea I know it's an expensive mistake if I get it wrong.

@@worthey1969 yup at 75 I'm right at 3k rpm. But I will say it doesn't mind it at all. Still gets 16ish mpg. Pulls hills all over Oklahoma and Texas and hardly ever down shifts. I'll try to find a link. But find your final drive ratio for your 6th gear in your transmission. Then use your tire size to get your target rpm. I think 2700 would be the sweet spot.

Hey did you need to get the tcm reprogrammed with the new gear ratio . Or did you need a tuner?
@andresniederhofer8602
@andresniederhofer8602 2 жыл бұрын
You have to recalibrate your computer for the new gear ratio. Look into an app called OBD JSCAN. life saver for jeeps. Or anything mopar. You can buy a tuner if you want. But with obdjscan you can reset your gear ratio for whatever you need it to be. It will also be able to adjust any setting like lights. Mine I have my fogs stay on with brights. Enable the factory back up Camara on your factory touchscreen. Reset abs lights or read pretty much any code. Only thing it won't do is power tuning. But it only cost like 50 bucks all in. Compared to 300ish for a tuner.

@@m1gz883 as long as you have the 3.6 with an auto Trans. 4.88s are going to be a little low in my opinion unless you live in the mountains. At 70 I'm at 2800ish rpm and 75 is over 3k rpm. @andresniederhofer8602
@andresniederhofer8602 3 жыл бұрын
It's a limited slip carrier for the rear diff. When 1 rear tire loses traction. The carrier senses that and locks. Sending full power to both rear tires. It's almost a must when off roading. Mostly rock crawling. There are also many other brands. It's just the one I went with.

@andresniederhofer8602
@andresniederhofer8602 3 жыл бұрын
So with the 2010 you have a 3.8L. I would look at 4.88s. Or maybe even 5.13s depending on if your automatic or standard transmission. As for Elockers or trutrak. Comes down to $$ and what what you use your jeep for. If you don't go off road all the time and do hard core wheelen. Then I would say safe the extra money and just do a TruTrak. The trutrak is about $550ish for the carrier itself. The electric is around $1000 plus labor to wire it up. I'm a weekend worrier. But also get pretty gnarly sometimes and my trutrak has been plenty for me.

@@andresniederhofer8602 when 1 tire loses traction it sends power to the wheel with traction not both tires. It has a bias of 3 or 3.5 to 1. It wont work with a wheel in the air unless you trick it with the hand brake or foot brake. I installed one on the rear and an aussie locker on the front. The aussie was amazing and made the jeep feel like a tank in mud and snow. The only thing about the aussies or lunch box lockers is if you do a hard brake when its slippery with ice patches and bare pavement is the axles feel like they lock and make a really really hard banging noise in the diff in 2wd. The jeep i installed the aussie locker on didnt have abs so dont know that would help with the banging in the diff
@andresniederhofer8602
@andresniederhofer8602 Жыл бұрын
@Kevin Hood with the eaten truetrac you don't have to trick it. As soon as one tire spins faster than the other it locks both axles together. Doesn't use clutch packs it uses gears to lock them on. I have abs and auto Trans and zero issues with my lunch box. The clicking doesn't bother me a bit. Have around 20+k miles on the set up

Really no reason to. 4.56 is plenty of low for what I do. I can pull my 18ft tahoe q3 ski n fish boat no problem. Runs great down the highway. At 75 about 3k rpm. If I wanted do. I feel like I could run 37s and still be good with my 4.56s. And I will eventually do 37s. But not before a D44 in the front instead of my D30. So it will be a little bit. And if I need more power at 37s. Which I really just don't think it will be an issue as good as it runs with 35s. That I can do forced induction. Maybe if I had a standard shift 4.88s. But with the auto and 35s. 4.56s seem perfect.
