Thanks for the video! My sunroof was making a loud thump when it was opening. I ride with it open a lot and I know it was only a matter of time before something broke because of this. I bought some 3M Silicone Paste from Amazon and followed your instructions. The thump is completely gone. It opens and closes as smooth as silk now.

Glad to hear it! Be mindful of the operation from now on. It's very likely the sticking had damaged the lift arms and they might break and cause the sunroof to get stuck. You'll likely hear a pop noise if it does. I have a video on how to fix that, too.

2 things: Always vent it first, before opening it. And keep and eye on the operation and any pops or cracking sounds. Your lift/guide arms are probably damaged and may fail later on. And keep it lubed every so often.

Was wondering if you could give me alittle advice here, i bought my f350 used, guy said he never used the Sunroof bc it wouldnt work. I tried to open it to see and it seemed like it would move a very little bit and was trying to pick up the whole vista glass. Rear and all. Wont go down either to slide back. Trys to but seems stuck. And my sunshade will only close halfway. Doesnt seem like its mechanical issue almost like it thinks the roof is open and wont close. Any ideas? Thanks! I havent tried pushing up on it or anything didnt want to break it... was thinking about messing with it but its about 30 degrees outside
@SealofPerfection
@SealofPerfection 11 ай бұрын
Okay the reason the shade won't close all the way is because the glass is not quite fully shut. If it doesn't think it is, it will only go halfway. The reason it's trying to lift the back glass is because the seals are kind of basically stuck together because they've never been lubed. You can get up there and manually push it and break the seal between them, but there's a high probability that the sliding parts inside the track are going to be broken. How do you have a video on how to remove the glass and also one on how to inspect the broken parts if you have any and tell what they came from

Do you only lubricate the rear gasket or do you lube elsewhere? Thank you for all of your great videos!
@SealofPerfection
@SealofPerfection Жыл бұрын
To keep the sunroof from sticking you just lube the rear of the front window. If you have a rattling or squeaking noise when driving I have another video showing where to lube the seal on the rear window, but it's unnecessary unless it's making noise. Most of them don't. I don't really use the krytox anymore, I use 3M silicone paste.

@@hokie9910 2019. I don't know what month the production units starting having the new ones, but I do know the first ones I saw were in fall 2019. I noticed when I got a set that had grease on them already. They always came dry previously. I thought someone had bought them, lubed them and then returned...but the next set was just like it, and also noted they had been noticeably beefed in the front "feet" area as well. I have also observed they have changed the lower cable guides as well, I believe in late 2018/early 2019. Haven't seen any of those break so far, either.

Thank you for the video and the other one on the same truck! Big help! Although I don’t have any of the problems that the video is for, but I have the same sunroof on my truck and I’m just looking to do some preventative maintenance. Is there anything I should do for the tracks or any other maintenance on this sunroof to prevent and problems?
@SealofPerfection
@SealofPerfection 4 жыл бұрын
Keep the sunroof drains clean. Not much of an issue on these so far. Keep the seal cleaned and lubed like in this video. That's the biggest thing. And every time you want to open it....don't. LOL, just vent it first. That breaks the "seal" and it a lot less strain on the lift arms.

Thanks for posting this, I just bought a tube of the Dupont to lube the seals. I looked at mine after I opened it the other day and they are dry. My 2015 had been sitting several days in the hot sun, when I pressed the button to open the roof it was stuck momentarily. I had to press the button the second time and it slid open fully. Looks like this fix should take care of it. Again, thanks! Also Pacfanweb, is there maintenance on the drain tubes that need to be done ( or can be done ) so there is less of a chance for a backup when the water drains in those tubes?
@SealofPerfection
@SealofPerfection 6 жыл бұрын
Sure, look at the size of the drain holes, and get you some tubing from Lowes or Home Depot that will stick in there and blow them out. Do NOT use compressed air. If they already flow okay, you can use detergent....windshield washer fluid is great, since it's designed to dissolve exactly the type of crud that's in there. Pour some through, let it sit a bit, then run water through there. They should slurp when you're done. Do that at least once a year.

My Problem is that I can't even get the sunroof open... When you press "open" the glass initiates its process and goes down and then it just gets caught and cannot move backwards. It looks perfectly aligned though and I cant see anything in the way. It will vent, however I tried to close and open from vent and it does the same thing. Any suggestions on getting it open?

Is the back seal of the front glass completely clear of the back glass? If not, give it a push downwards. If it is clear, then the guide bracket is probably broken. Ford now has replacement brackets available to fix this. You have to do them in pairs. I just did the first one today.
@joshherbst295

Pacfanweb it is completely clear of the glass and I was able to get it to go back one time prior to watching your videos similar to the video I commented on earlier however it will no longer do that it just keeps trying to go back and makes minimal movement in doing so. How does this bracket break? Where would I order the parts and is there a video to show installation? Is this something I can do? Thanks for the reply and help!
@SealofPerfection
@SealofPerfection 6 жыл бұрын
But it shuts okay? And vents? Sounds like there may be some broken pieces of the guide bracket restricting the movement. If so, front glass needs to be removed and find/fish them out. The parts are available at the dealer only right now. It's not too hard, but there won't be any instructional videos on it yet. I just did literally the first on in this state 2 days ago. I will make one eventually. Weather was bad that day and I was learning also.

If i clean and lube the gasket, do i need to reprogram it?
@SealofPerfection
@SealofPerfection 6 жыл бұрын
You are supposed to, yes. Programming it helps it learn to either push through or stop for resistance, or lack of. Such as: I replaced a track once. Had not swapped over the pop-up deflector yet. Went ahead and programmed it anyway. Then put the deflector in...just the spring pressure that had, when the glass was closing it would feel it, stop and reverse, thinking something was in the way. I had to program it again to account for that bit of pressure, so it's best if you take pressure away (by lubing) that you program it afterwards.

Yep, I've had loads of customers bring in broken pieces of plastic and say it came from the sunroof. What that means is that the guide brackets are coming apart, and yes, it will probably cause the sunroof to get stuck if you keep using it. Ford now makes replacement brackets so you don't have to replace the whole track.
