2015-19 HONDA FIT/JAZZ - GK5 - How To - Center Console Removal & Installation

In this video I removed the center console.
-The hardest part is removing the rear part of the console & unplugging the rear electrical plug
-I tried to do this when I first bought the car and was unable to locate all the screws and tabs
-It really needed a cleaning underneath
-I will be installing a police scanner/cb radio in the center console in the near future and wanted to take a look at the available space and wiring behind everything

I'm glad I watched your video. I can replace my rear console (arm rest), because it's all scratched up from Mom's shopping cart. (Ugh). I'm glad that it lifts without needing to unscrew this and that. I have a 2018 EX Honda Fit. Very detailed video! Thanks!

I applied 33sqft of sound deaden-er to the inside of my fit and it's still terribly loud. I replaced the back suspension and got an alignment and its still bad. I'm going to throw on my stock set of rims and tires and see if the results will vary.

You may want to consider downsizing wheels. When I switched from 16" OEM wheels and tires to 15" Konig Heliums and General AltiMAX 365 AW 195/60r15's a month ago, I realized a 1 db drop and less vibrations in the frame which doesn't get picked up by db meter. I saw your thorough sounddeadening job on Instagram. Have you done the front and rear doors and floors too? They make a much bigger difference than the rear hatch area.

@@JuneNeko I did the the back half and quarter panels. It definately sounds like it's coming from the rear still. I'm just about to swap rims and tires.

@@peterbedford2610 Hi Peter, I'm currently running a 205/50/16 rim and tire setup. I believe this raised the car .5-.75" You can get away with 205/55/16 which would raise the car up 1"-1.15" but then you wouldn't be leaving much clearance for mud or snow build up. HRV springs will raise the car up 1" too. They FIT well in the back but I believe there may be issues putting them on in the front. So far I've only come across one situation where I almost became stuck due to clearance issues. I do have some traction boards on the way as well. Feel free to ask any questions any time.

​@@HondaFit4Adventure I like all your vids including the camping and bouldering ones. I lucked out, my 2016 Fit bought last August was made in Nippon. Bought w only 4000 miles on it. Must have been Granny's car. The Fit zips (accelerates) due to modest weight. HRV lags on acceleration due to adding some 14 horsepower to the engine but too much room and weight. Look at the Fit shape. One of the most aerodynamic cars around, which I admit means the most at highway speeds.

6:23 i watch this video just to see the Angle of a two cable of emergency brake😂 mine is not exactly in line. One is higher (right) side and left side is lower position just like in this video. Now im satisfy… thanks a lot😂

Any plans to build a flat sleeping platform that can accommodate your tall self ? I have been wanting to for a long time. I’ve slept in the back semi comfortably in the past without any build and I’ve been trying to figure out a way to make an easy in and out sleeping platform that would allow me to play completely flat from the glove box to the back. Unsure of the best way to make it either easily removable or hinge. I have yet to see a video of someone come up with something that really works well for super tall people.

Robbie, do you have a IG? My bed area is complete (no platform area required) I can send you some photos or videos on IG if you have one. You should be able to see it in next within the next couple of videos. I'm using a medium size rockclimbing crashpad. It trifolds so I can fold over the bottom end and access my solar box or I can fold over the front part and scoot my seats back. It's a thicker mattress then you would want for car camping but for me a dual purpose item.

I think it's mostly the same. The biggest difference is going to be removing your automatic shift knob. Every thing should be I dentical after that.

I tried to remove my automatic console and everything was the same except it wouldn't come out. I think there are 2 x 10mm bolts holding the console to the floor, but they also appear to support the automatic shifter. I didn't like the way it looked so I stopped and put it back together. It's my niece's car, and I didn't want to break anything, then have to drive her around until I could order replacement parts!

You was able to easily remove the center console after removing the tabs, screws, electrical plug, gear knob, emergency brake cover. This was the first time you removed it? After following your instructions, my center console still feels attached to something in the middle console area. I am trying to gain access to the automatic shift lever light bulb area so that I can change the bulb.

Were you able to do it? Did you have to leave it in neutral? I also have this problem and my gk5 has a different style, it's more American.

​@@LuisAPeregrina There were no additional fasteners, screws, and electrical plugs that required removal in order for me to remove the center console. I pulled hard and the center console became detached. I moved the shifter to the 'S' position in order to fully remove the center console to allow full access to where the light bulb is located. I did break the two center console side fasteners when I struggled to remove them using a screw driver and pliers. I now know that there is a trim removal tool (about $5) that allows easy removal of these fasteners. The light bulb cost was $8.26. The fasteners were $13.63 for the two (including the ridiculous shipping cost). Honda dealership quoted me $200 to change the shifter light bulb.

After reading your comments, I accepted that I was going to break at least one tab holding the outer silver plastic to the center plastic. I carefully pulled up and out on the outer plastic but broke one putting it back. Still holds together like before and I can't see the damage

I seen that you had water in your drive seat do you get water leaks in your car as well?

I do not have any water leaks in my car. The stain on my seat is either KBS rust sealer or the tacky substance on the back of sound deadener. I've accidentally sat in both and then sat back down into my car. :(

Do you still have the screws shown at @2:16 ? They should be the size. Remove them and take them to your local hardware store for a match.

@@Vtoq They do sell special tools to remove these that I should purchase. It's best to have some spares tabs on hand anyway.
