Thanks for this video! Loved it and motivated me to install one myself!

I've put 11,000 miles on my Forester and there's not even enough to cover the bottom of the can. Is this normal for new vehicles? Some think it's because I change my oil so often.
@MyNameIdeasWereTaken6 ай бұрын
It's there to catch any blowby oil, which is a result of higher crankcase pressure. It's not a result of how often you change your oil, but how frequently you are driving in high boost when you're potentially increasing crankcase pressure. If you're running a stock tune, the catch can likely doesn't have a lot to catch.

Hey, any updates after using it for a while ? Thanks. Thinking of running this on my Wrx 🙏🏽 this vid really helps. appreciate you bro.

It has been problem free for me. Gone through about 15k miles and 3 oil changes. It has captured a bit of oil each time with mostly spirited mountain driving and commuting.

Awesome! Did you have issues with the silicone lines collapsing under heavy throttle? I'm also wondering why you didnt use the breather that typically come with these catch can kits. Thanks!
@MyNameIdeasWereTaken Жыл бұрын
No issues with the lines, they're just as solid as the stock lines are. You really only need a breather if you have excess pressure building up. I didn't consider it necessary on my setup and many of the aftermarket catch cans for these WRXs don't have breathers either; some of those aftermarket setups are designed for significantly more power than I'm making.

Does the crankcase hose go to the “in” or “out” fitting on the catch can I’m confused
@MyNameIdeasWereTaken4 ай бұрын
The vent line from the crankcase feeds into the IN on the catch can.

Hi, going to do this install, couple questions: 1. You show the one area with the elbow tube before the can, but where does the hose connect after the can? Did you show that? 2. Were all the hoses indeed 10mm or were there any other sizes? 3. I see some people cutting the existing hose and splicing the can in. Is this equally as good or should I take the time to connect it at the source? Thanks so much!
@MyNameIdeasWereTaken5 ай бұрын
1. Keep following the same line back to the intake and you'll see where it connects. The catch can is essentially just a new detour off that original PCV line. 2. What I used was all 10mm. 3. This would be equally as good, but I opted for all fresh hoses so that I could route things exactly where I wanted without any unnecessary kinks or splices.

Excellent video, can I ask about how many feet of hose you needed for this particular setup?
@MyNameIdeasWereTaken Жыл бұрын
I bought 4 feet of hose, but didn't need all of it. It was just easier to run both longer hoses, then cut off the excess once everything was mounted.
@SkylerRC Жыл бұрын
@@MyNameIdeasWereTaken perfect. I plan to follow what you did with mounting and everything. It just looks clean and tidy. Thank you for this info brother! This helps a ton!

Where would you put a catch can if you had an aftermarket charge pipe since the stock one is so much slimmer
@MyNameIdeasWereTaken Жыл бұрын
Take a look at some of the aftermarket catch can kits for these cars, there are a few different mounting locations that are commonly used.

Wouldnt it ventilate from the intake then back to crankcase?
@superkmpm10 ай бұрын
No. The PCV valve itself is one-way (unless it's damaged or very old) so back pressure through the catch can wouldn't be an issue. But also it isn't connected to the high pressure charge piping.

Nice install! How's it going, 4 months down the line? Has it collected much oil?
@MyNameIdeasWereTaken Жыл бұрын
In my last oil change, after 5k miles, the catch can collected about 2 tablespoons worth of oil. So it's definitely doing its job.

@@MyNameIdeasWereTaken Good to hear it's working! I'm thinking of installing the same can (also with better quality hoses and clamps) on my older WRX. One other question, I was wondering how useful that dipstick is being black?
@MyNameIdeasWereTaken Жыл бұрын
@@mickrichBMXWRXJapan You can still see the wet oil line on the dipstick, so no issues there.

The exact hoses may vary, but this is essentially the same process for any car.
