Owned two 5.3 trucks. Both 4wd crewcab 373 gear with the infamous g80. Current Sierra was lq9 (6.sLo)swapped along with the pcm tuned (mail order tune). It's night and day difference between the 5.3 including the 1st 5.3 I had which was also pcm tuned. In saying that I'll also say the 6.2 is night and day between any factory 5.3 Perhaps check your drivetrain. 8 speed trans is faster than 6 speed and most people miss the glove box decal which tells you everything from paint codes to what differential gear set their truck has. My advise is to throw on some corsa /borla mufflers, airaid cai and long tubes would really help a pcm tune achieve maximum results. You'll achieve better fuel efficiency and best of all... When you have a Ecco or whomever you want to get around you will be able to capitalize AMERICA
@DuramaxSilverado068 жыл бұрын
Who the hell would say there isnt a difference? 5.3 has 355hp and 383 torque. 6.2 has 420hp and 460torque. I can tell just from this it would blow a 5.3 out of the water
@ajlarson10008 жыл бұрын
Lol Ikr I had experience with 5.3 silverado and a 6.2 and the 5.3 is sooo weak, and the 6.2 will spin up in second gear.

I literally test drove the 5.3 and 6.2 today and i find it to be true. I wonder if the fuel in the 6.2 was at 89 or something.
@robhuckell36776 жыл бұрын
Of course the 5.3 will seem “weak” it’s .9l smaller and makes a significant less amount of hp, but what it lacks in power it makes up for in fuel economy. 5.3s are not slow by any means, pretty quick for a truck if you ask me, but the 6.2 is just another level of power.

Bought a new 17 High Country 6.2L and there's no comparison to the 5.3L totally two different engines power wise. Added an Elite RX catch can and clean side separator and performance air filter and intake tube. The truck calls for premium folks don't cheap out with regular it's not worth it for a few bucks. Also use only Amsoil Signature Series and filter since new it's the best in my opinion. The truck is a beast and top end is crazy. Try a 6.2L and I'll guarantee you won't want a 5.3 and to boot it averages 23 MPG.

I LOOOOOOVVVVEEEE the SOUND of the GM Vortec (V8 Line-up ONLY.) They sound good. And, I’m not surprised they “Break-In” differently. But, I HAVE driven a 5.3 with the 8L90. The newest body style. The ‘19 and up. It did good during the Test drive. But, I AM curious to see how it does, after being broken in, about a thousand miles on the O-D. Only reason I won’t go with the 6.2, I have no need for the power. If I wanted to go with something to tow 13,000+ Lbs, I’d go with the 3/4s with Gas, because they say not to max out the tow vehicle. It’s not just about towing. You ALSO need to be able to STOP whatever it is you may have in tow. 🙏🙏

And I got the same mileage if not better and the 09 didn't have dod. If I don't put my foot into it the 8 speed acts like it doesn't know what gear to shift into. I'm very disappointed and this will probably be my last gm truck. I stopped using my gm credit card so I won't have that to tempt me. When there was 10% off msrp, $2,000 gmc loyalty, $1,000 off for regional discount and the $3,896 back from my credit card. Kind of stopped me from looking at others.

Pumpkin King XXIII It's a fairly new transmission so it's gonna take a bit for them to get it dialed, anyone who buys a vehicle equipped with a new engine or transmission should know this. a brand new motor doesnt need to be "broken" in.. its when you toss rings into an old bore without boring it that the rings need to "break" in.. and adjust to fit the bore. On a fresh bore the rings are seating perfectly.. if not then someone did a shit job lol. Also if a 5.3 feels like it has more power its probably the gearing. 6.2 has more hp and torque.. give them both the same gearing and the 6.2 should smoke the 5.3
@guy67517 жыл бұрын
Cody Rosa New engine do need to be broke in, if you've ever bought a new car then you know after about 1500 miles you will gain a small bit of power and fuel mileage. It's not as noticeable as with a rebuilt motor but the engine components still have to mate to each other for maximum efficiency.

@JsGarage6 жыл бұрын
l83 is a dog in comparison. The l86 is a better, larger displacement motor. It has serious power in contrast to the 5.3L and responds to tunes and/or boost much better than a 5.3L. There is a reason the 5.3L is only found as a base v8 option in GM trucks. 6.2L on the other hand is found in GM performance cars with slight variation. I would never buy a silverado with the lazy 5.3L. I have driven several and the models especially with the 6 speed are lazy. 8 Speed helps it out but it is still the lowest powered v8 in the half ton industry. GM needs to increase power levels since they don't want to offer the 6.2L outside of flagship models. Sure you can mod a 5.3L but why bother?
