I drove a Z/28, and my one and only complaint has to do with the steering. It was too numb for a car with that much potential, but OMG, if that was my only complaint, that says a lot! I didn't mind the bouncy ride, I have been in much worse.
@markstoys118 жыл бұрын
Did you drive it in PTM 5? The steering has much more feel in that mode. I don't think it rides that bad either--although my Corolla is a little smoother.
@Carstuff1118 жыл бұрын
I did not get a chance to play with any of the settings. That said, I am old school, I drive a car with no power steering, so a lot of modern cars feel too light for my taste. That said, out of the modern cars I have driven, this is THE car I would own. It felt as light as my 1992 Honda Civic DX, yet felt like I could move mountains with the torque, and just... yeah, I want one, baaad. I know there are faster cars, better equipped, so on and so forth, but this car speaks to me. I would have to do a few mods if I ever did own one though: Dark green metallic paint, and HID headlights. Make it my own RS packaged Z/28.

The engine is really the only brute force thing about it. The rest of it is state of the art chassis, suspension, brakes and wheel engineering... which is exactly why I love this car so much, and why I think it's the best car GM has made in quite a few decades. I agree with the owner of this one, that this is one of the VERY few cars out there that I would feel 100% satisfied with and would not want to modify a single thing about it. Everything from the wheels, stance, exhaust to the power level is just so perfectly balanced. All that and it looks sharp to boot.
@a.burrell25598 жыл бұрын
Hey Matt. Question, I've noticed that you have driven both the Z/28 and the ZL1. I own a ZL1 but everybody praises the LS7. Which would you prefer the LS7 or the LSA like in the ZL1? Also would you compare the ZL1 to the Z/28 is the ZL1 close to the Z/28 as far as trackability (made up that word)?
@TheSmokingTire8 жыл бұрын
The ZL1 is the better road car for sure. It's not as stiff or darty as the Z28, and makes more torque down low. On a track, you want the Z28; the ZL1 doesn't have the tire or brake to keep up with that thing.
@frenchieblack18 жыл бұрын
Finally, I love this car... Also, both the gt350r and the Z28 put down the same amount of power on the dyno in spite of the "Voodoo engine"
@Armen5678 жыл бұрын
The Z28's motor is a 7.0L. That Ford's much smaller n/a 5.2L motor puts out similar numbers is pretty amazing actually. I too love both cars.
@frenchieblack18 жыл бұрын
Right, no the flat plain crank is impressive but GM does well at sparing us all the superlatives to make strong uncomplicated engines. And the fact that it's ten years old makes it the underdog.

What a beautiful setup Chevy made with this car! They should've made it with a Yenko badge to stay true to original badging. I would've loved to have seen them make a SUPER LIGHT version of this gen Camaro with a smaller displacement small block V8 and called it the Z/28. Would've loved to see them de-stroke the 5.3 to 5.0 litera for a true 302. Ford is squeezing 480 out of their 302 cubic inch engine, Chevy could do it too, but unfortunately the market just isn't there. A limited run would've been cool though!

The Chris Harris anecdote is funny. He also had pretty high praise for the Z/28, even compared it to an epic benchmark manual handling car: a 911 GT3 RS (997). I think that comparison alone was flattering to the Z/28. Pretty rarified air. Since Ford raised the bar with the GT350R, can't wait to see what GM responds with using a sixth-gen chassis. Some exciting cars, and attainable to those of us in the middle class as well!

Nice review. I have a question for you. Do you have an understanding with the CHP? The last time I tried to go up to ACH I was pulled over by the CHP not for a moving violation but for having a modified axle back exhaust on my 2017 WRX which was certified legal by a state referee afterwards.

***** Right... and do you know why they dropped so significantly? The new platform. Everyone and their grandmother knows the Z/28 was the best they could do with that last gen platform.
