My father has a 2015 Chrysler 200 with the 2.4 Tigershark, and he recently had the dealership perform all of the available transmission software updates (I believe there's 3 software updates that Chrysler has come out with since the car was first introduced, and they were issued as TSBs - technical service bulletins) and I can report that they made a significant improvement in the overall performance of the ZF 9AT in this car. The jerkiness in 1st gear when accelerating from a stop is now gone, the occasional harsh downshift is also gone, and the upshifts feel noticeably tighter and more brisk. The overall performance is definitely sportier and less sluggish than before. I've also read online that the updates even give the car a small improvement in 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. For anyone that has a Chrysler 200 (or a newer Jeep Cherokee) I would strongly recommend you have your dealership peform all of the available transmission software updates on your car, it certainly makes a big improvement.

Had this car for a rental for two weeks in May. Most of the comments in the video are sound; the transmission was strange (but I drive a manual), the entry was low ( I had a few bumps) and the rear view, especially the wing mirrors, were almost fatal at times. That said, it was very easy to drive, extremely comfortable and got considerably better mileage than the reviewer (possibly because I did not thrash it everywhere). My overall mileage was around 29, but on a run out on that long smooth road up to Cape Canaveral, I was actually getting into the 40s - and that was at the speed limit for the road (65-70 if I remember rightly).

I rented the 2016 version of this exact model and drove it 2800 miles in 3 days. I was impressed all around though the thing that really stood out to me was the 9 speed automatic transmission. Seamless shifts bolstered by decent power for a 4 cylinder available at basically any speed on the gauge.
@cytrynowy_melon66045 жыл бұрын
That's true, when driven carefully this transmission feels really fast, because engine is always on optimal gear, therefore you can accelerate quite fast on low rpm without overstressing the engine. But when furiously driven, this transmission doesn't know what to do. Folks who torture their daily cars do not like it. Thats why they call transmission 'lethargic'. Because when you suddenly press pedal to the metal during gear change, it can 'think' for a moment. But it's not a problem in daily driving. If you put it in Sport mode, 3.6 definitely can overtake other cars fast enough.
@Ziggy84x9 жыл бұрын
Tanks for the honest review. With regards on your comments about the transmission, when I was looking at the owner's manual for my new 200S (4 cyl), I read that the transmission is getting programmed the first 1000 miles or so to your driving habits. The transmission does seem to take long to finally decide to switch gears though. In S mode (your L mode on your tester) the transmission doesn't seem to want to go over 6th gear and it is more 'johnny on the spot' than in regular mode. Reasons why I bought this car 1 Looks sexy AF. 2 Super quiet cabin, especially on the freeway 3 it seems to soak up the rough patches on the roads better than other cars 3 it feels heavier than japanese cars 4 I didn't see any other mid size sedan offer ventilated seats 5 uconnect works great

I own this particular car. You did an excellent job and hit it out of the park with this car. Not to say I have buyers remorse. I knew what I was buying and bought it because I was offered a deal I couldn't refuse. I purchased it really cheap but there are some things I decided to live with. The sight lines while driving are horrible. Especially the pillars and the low profile roof in the back. It takes a lot of getting used to understanding where blind spots are. My transmission works fine because I drive like an old lady. Any normal person would absolutely hate it. Love the dash board and features. It is a good looking car. Good engine...but the other thing you mentioned that bothers me is this car should get better gas mileage. This coming from someone that drove an SUV for years. I like the sound system though and the infotainment system is excellent. I wouldn't buy this at list price...but I would at the price I got it.

I'm currently a owner of a 2015 200 in that same trim and color. I love it and I have to call him out dinging the rear steering wheel controls for the scan and volume. They are great you never have to let go of the steering to change songs/stations or adjust the volume. Why the heck would they label the back of the steering wheel which you can't see? It also keeps less clutter on the front controls.

Amen! I said the exact same thing! I have an 06 stratus and its a nice car. Gets me where I need to go, it drives nice, gets good gas mileage and it has 203,000 miles on it. And it will probably go another 100,000 the mechanic said. Based off of the condition and the fact that I take care of my cars. That's the problem. People don't do proper maintenance on their vehicles. They just drive them don't do oil changes don't flush any fluids at an early stage and they don't wash them they don't do tuneups. People are lazy and that reflects on their. Cars.

I am driving a 4 cylinder 200 at the moment. Your review is pretty much spot on except for the fuel economy. The gas mileage is simply terrible. I get like 19 mpg in the city. Combined I struggle to average 21mpg. I don't understand how a 4 cylinder with a 9 speed auto can get such bad gas mileage. It is definitely much better on the highway where it can get 36mpg, but once you drive it in the city the mileage just tanks. I can barely get 300 miles out of a tank. Why is the mileage so poor in this car? I don't even drive hard either. I try to drive it with a very light foot and it still sucks at fuel economy.
@starnav2k8 жыл бұрын
I've owned my 200 Limited for about a month. The transmission is a bit funky. In spite of having nine gears, I t seems to be constantly one gear low most of the time. Unlike most automatics, you can't simply "fake it out" by letting off the gas abruptly to get it to shift up. This transmission would rather whine at 4000 rpm uphill than shift to the next higher, and more appropriate gear. I travel a steep hill regularly, and I watch my fuel economy tank every time. If the shift points/tuning were more efficient, I would be 100% in love with the car. There was a complaint in the review about the low roof, which I noticed when I first drove the car. I actually test drove the car twice before buying, and it wasn't until the second drive that I found the seat ratcheted down. I'd like a smidgen more head clearance, but it is better than sufferable. My family of five fits comfortably - one kid out of boosters, one in a booster, and one in a car seat - and I'm not exactly a small guy. Overall, it is a bit quirky, but it fits well, and takes the long commute like a champ. If the transmission were tuned a bit better, I'd be over-the-moon in love.

Robert Barbish Chrysler has issued 3 different transmission software updates as TSBs for all of the 200 models (and for the Jeep Cherokees) and they've been reported to make a significant improvement in the overall performance of the ZF 9AT. My father has a 2015 200 2.4 model and after he had all of the tranny updates done we both noticed a significant improvement, upshifts were faster & tighter, downshifts were smoother, 1st gear jerkiness was gone. It definitely is worth having them done, you can goto any Chrysler dealership and just tell them you want all of the available transmission software updates done on your car. They're also free of charge but they won't perform these TSBs unless you specifically ask for them to be done.

The problem with the 4-cyl base model transmission is that it is NOT built by ZF. It is a ZF design, but Chrysler builds it themselves, they just license the design from ZF. Frankly, they should dump ZF and go with the much better Aisin transmissions.

+raul1794 Chrysler is no where near the same company it was 5 years ago. Just remember to service the car and it will last. I don't like to go more than 7.5k miles on oil changes (synthetic) and I change my transmission fluid ever 60k. +Redline Reviews I drove a 200s 2.4L from DC to NYC and back (as a rental) and felt like I had to floor it just to catch up to the car in front of me during traffic; this seemed to occur due to the cars tendency to seek out higher gears for improved fuel economy. The model I drove had paddle shifters, which were nice but took up to two seconds to shift gears. The technology in the car was very convenient and I did love the feel of the leather steering wheel, but in the end the way the transmission acted in traffic made me want to drive the car into a lake. Very accurate and detailed review, I felt like I was screaming "yes" to everything you said.

i want to see the Chrysler 300, and the Dodge Charger/Challenger! You should also do the Durango, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee!!

Idk how FCA tuned this transmission to shift so slow. I mean with 9 speeds, you would think that it would shift faster, but yeah, it definitely feels like a 4 or 5 speed transmission. Now of course ZF’s 9 speed is not the best transmission, but Honda and Acura definitely tuned the transmission to shift quicker and better.

Chrysler needs to take notes from Mazda 6 and Ford Fusion on how to make this car fun.

Do you think dodge will bring back the avenger in this platform. Dodge is the only brand that lacks a midsize brand because the dart is considered a compact

Chrysler has never been able to build any small or midsized automobiles worth a dam. No wonder why they almost went bankrupt back in the early 80's.

9 speed is just a trick to attract buyers.I'll take a regular 6 or 5 speed manual over these

I own a Bentley and a Rolls Royce and sold them both because this baby-baller-Tesla-RollsRoyce-Bugatti Chrysler 200 is so much better than both of those cars combined. Fuck all the haters, this is the best and most luxurious car in the world, don't let anybody tell you otherwise. YOU tell me what you'd rather have in your interior.... extremely complex plastics that took centuries for mankind to perfect, and take hours as well as hundreds of different compounds to produce, or the dry skin from a cow carcass?
