2015 Chrysler Town & Country Expansion Valve R & R

This is a DIY How to video on Removing and Replacing the AC Expansion Valve in a 2015 (Front Expansion Valve - with Dual AC, there is one in the back) Chrysler Town and Country Mini-Van. It was not terribly hard - but would have been easier if I smaller hands, lol.

Thanks very much. There is 0 information for a 2015 Challenger expansion valve on the WWW. This was exactly same as mine.

Hi, nice video, where can I get "a couple of washers on the other end of these pipes" what are they called or what size are they? Where did you get them?

I got the Expansion valve at Autozone, and as I recall, it came with the washers.

I think this why the ac in my town and country blows cold sometimes than other times it blows warm. I can feel air blowing out underneath where the high pressure line goes I to the expansion valve im guessing a seal is bad.

If I am understanding your comments, I don't think that is it. If you could feel "air" around the connection to the expansion valve - you would quickly lose all of your refrigerant.

I recently changed that valve on my dodge caravan 18 but 1 week later I noticed that it was leaking again. Could I just buy new orings and redo it ?

Yes, you should be able to get them at the auto parts store, eBay, or www.rockauto.com

Hi, this video is helping to replace my dodge caravan expansion valve. my question is super simple, hope you can help--- what oil do you recommend to use to lubricate the o rings on the expansion valve? thanks in advance.

I use a product called "Super Lube" - the problem is that is not super easy to find. One thing that would be safe is use the oil that goes in the AC system - a Pag Oil. It is available at most Auto Parts stores.

I gave it a shot, I'm a first time DIY'er, and not sure I can say it went to well. Your instructions were great, I just don't think I did to well. When I turn on the A/C, I can feel a lot of air blowing out from where the expansion valve goes. I can't remember if it was doing that prior to me changing it out--- is that normal? If I take my hand and cover the top bulb/disc part of the valve and press down, the air almost stops. Also, I learned to do a vacuum test, and my new expansion valve won't hold a vacuum, so I put the old expansion valve back in and it was able to hold a vacuum-- not sure what that means either. If you happen to know, always appreciate any input. Thanks either way again!@@mliphart

@@eddiecastaneda8918 the only thing I can think of is that there would be a problem with the seals and / or O-Rings. Apart from the seals, the Expansion Valve is a "closed" piece.

Good afternoon. Why did you change this part? I have a high pressure in the return line of the air conditioner. There should be low pressure in that line and I have high pressure there. So I need to change this part too? Thank you.

Possibly. The expansion valve is the part that creates the "high pressure" side - so, it is possible. I changed mine because I wasn't getting cold enough air. I ended up replacing the back expansion valve, too.

Did this fix the issue. Usually if it cools while driving buy hot at idle. It may be clogged condenser or condenser fan not coming on. That why it cools with air flow but get hold when at idle.

When u did the back did it fix it? I'm debating what I need to buy if it's just the expansion in rear or expansion and evaporator. no cold air in the rear fronts cold

My 2013 town country compressor turns on and off all time, front air feels bit cool when i drive it, rear doesn't work. 😬😬

If it turns on and off - it may be low on refrigerant. It has a "low pressure" switch that is designed to turn the compressor off anytime the pressure drops to a certain point - to prevent burning the compressor up. I would take it to a shop that has an AC machine (if you don't have one) and have it checked first.

Was the Problem the front expansion valve, or did you discover another issue with the rear one? I have the same issue, just tried the ac on my 2015 T&C, and when I drive, it gets a bit cold, but warm at stand still. During an inspection of the rear right shock, I noticed green liquid drops from rear expansion valve. So I'm going to tackle that.

I ended up changing both expansion valves. It works better - but still not as good as I would like it to. But, that may just be the nature of the beast, if you will. If you have liquid dripping from the rear expansion valve - there is definitely a problem there.

@@mliphart So you replaced both, huh. Well, I've learned the hard way, never to fix whats not broke. I already watched 2 videos on removing the rear panels to get to that evaporator, to separate it from the expansion valve. This can attempt from below, BUT, there's a Big chance the two retainer screws may strip, making it a more expensive job. At the same time, it gives me the chance to inspect the evaporator for damage. Frankly I'm hoping it's just THAT expansion valve. There's no leakage at the front one.

Can I ask, in what condition did you find the rear evaporator and expansion valve? Did you replace both, or just expansion valve? Did you manage to simply separate the two, or did the two screws give you trouble to remove?

@@MusicMinisterJP7 I did replace both. I actually found a leak in the condenser.

@@mliphart OK, so your problem was actually at the front with Condenser,, but do you remember the rear expansion valve and evaporator, did they look good, like was there any leaking at that rear junction? Was it dry??
