I did a headlight delete. Hard to drive in the dark but think my turbo loves the extra air flow.

For a turbo car the intake is actually a pretty big deal. You don't see significant gains at all but you do see some alteration in power band. Having free flowing unrestricted air coming in lets the turbo spool faster which can help create a better power band especially in the lower rpms where turbo cars usually struggle.

You should keep this video and installation videos up so people that get the car later can look at these! They are really helpful and more in depth than most. Like I'm getting my Ecoboost when I'm 18 in 16 months. Thank you for your time!

A proper cold air intake does give some good gains especially for a boosted vehicle, getting more cold air means more power, after my tune I did a k&m intake for my ecoboost stang and got 14hp and close to 20 torque, does sound great aswell

I hear but that that's the same thing they said about the old 240sx KA motor. And I know from experience they're freak motors that out perform their original intention which was to be a pickup truck motor. The answers are in the details, what fails most often on the ecoboost 2.3? I don't know myself

I agree a tune comes last or once you gather and put all the stuff on then get a custom tune done.. that's what I'm doing for my 2013 zl1.. I did the same for my 2013 5.0. JLT intake and boss manifold were huge gains with a tune.. I'd say intake,full exshaust, pulls then tune. Can't go wrong in that order

Why would you suggest getting a tune and then get all these other parts? You should leave the tune for last to get the most out of the tune with the mods you put in it. I hope people that used this video for reference are smart enough to have done that.
@OffroadNow
@OffroadNow 9 жыл бұрын
You can do both. I'm not really sure what you were getting at, unless you just don't know how things work now. You can get a tune, which will completely change your car's attitude, and then, as long as you are working with someone who isn't a rip off, you datalog your car with the new mods and then get another tune for free. COBB, Unleashed, Livernois, Bama, etc. will all give you updated tune files for free as you mod.
@jacchevr
@jacchevr 9 жыл бұрын
That's weird man. In my personal experience from having gotten custom tunes in the past through email I've had the option of getting "tunes for life" for an additional fee. You're right about the datalogging, but only to brush up the tune after getting it, not continuing to get free tunes after modding. That goes for shops like woodbine and Amazon. Local tunes I'm charged a flat $250 to retune for added mods. But shit, if you can get free tunes from those places might as well hit them up!

Well, if you get the Cobb AP you can pretty much download the free OTS maps from the Cobb website, they have a lot of OTS maps with different Mods. Usually if you have to take it to a tuner ( i like Freektune ) he charges around $150-$200 on a custom tune and if you put any more mods on your car i believe he only charges $50 for a new map, of course its an e-tune so it takes a bit to have the car where you want it to be because you have to do a few pulls with datalogs and email it to him. Nice video though, im with you on the priorities.

I saw some videos where they tested adding lowering springs to the new mustang, doing some autocross laps and essentially just dropping the car on ford racing springs didn't change their lap times, but once they added the new performance shocks to the lowering springs that is where they picked up the better lap times 1-2 seconds I believe. I'm not sure who did these comparisons, but I will report back to here and update this if anyone is interested to see the video? I wish I had the money to own a V8 & Ecoboost 2015 Mustang, because I love them both in different ways :)

I only have seat of the pants measurements so my statement may be totally useless. However, I have noticed that the right intake makes huge performance gains. Especially in diesel trucks. Put a poly intake on an Abarth and even with a tiny airfilter (by my standards) it made a considerably difference. On the abarth it was mostly sounds but the seat of the pants increase was considerable.

Pretty much. A catback exhaust will do about the same as a cold air intake (give or take a bit of power, likely in favor of the catback), but I was specifically referring to a Turboback (which means changing the DP, of course). Thanks for commenting so I could respond and make that 100% clear.

Oil catch can mod oil getting pass the rings going to crankcase. Last I knew theres few qts of oil in crankcase that oil pump draws from and pumps it through oil passages to lube bearings, cam, lifters, valve train, turbo..... Oil catch can removed oil from oil vapor that all engines make so it doesn't back into the intake
@bobzilla9p0
@bobzilla9p0 9 жыл бұрын
Alena Soto It actually catches "sheared" oil particles and water vapor. Two things that over time will degrade your engines possibly life span. It also keeps the sheared oil particles from building up on your intake valves. This is especially true for direct injection engines that do not have the gas spray washing the valves down. And, for heavily modified forced induction engines you can lower your crank case pressure with a "vent to atmosphere" option. The "shearing" action present in turbos and super chargers actually destroys oil on the molecular level. This is why forced induction engines consume more oil that naturally aspirated ones, and need a top off of about a quart 2/3s the mileage towards the next oil change.

Doug Mappin Quote from LMacNeill from above "Actually, no, all those mods you mention will not void the warranty because of the Magnusson-Moss Act of 1975 -- unless they can be shown to have caused a specific fault with the car, in which case whatever part they caused to break will not be covered by the warranty."

An oil catch can will void your warranty!! It is a modification of the emissions system. Any modification of the emissions system is against Federal Law and results in an automatic and immediate voiding of the manufacturer's warranty. Yes, the engine will run better with an O.C.C. Yes, the engine will last longer with an O.C.C. The Federal Government doesn't give a shit about your getting more miles out of your turbo or your engine. The EPA has ruled that *any* tampering with the emissions system is illegal! The dealer will not only refuse to honor your warranty, they will be *required by law* to return the vehicle to factory emissions-specs *at your expense* if you take it in for warranty service and they find an oil-catch-can on there.
@FormulaDZM
@FormulaDZM 9 жыл бұрын
LMacNeill Feel free to correct me but, won't a turbo back exhaust, springs/coilovers, tunes, and intercooler modification also void the warranty? Why are you focusing on just the oil catch can?
@LMacNeill
@LMacNeill 9 жыл бұрын
FormulaDZM Actually, no, all those mods you mention will *not* void the warranty because of the Magnusson-Moss Act of 1975 -- unless they can be shown to have caused a specific fault with the car, in which case whatever part they caused to break will not be covered by the warranty. The oil catch-can, however, actually replaces your PCV valve -- an integral part of the emissions system. This violates Federal Law, and thus supersedes the Magnusson-Moss Act, violating your entire engine's warranty.
@FormulaDZM
@FormulaDZM 9 жыл бұрын
Wow very good to know. I'm glad I asked. Thank you
@bobzilla9p0
@bobzilla9p0 9 жыл бұрын
LMacNeill I am glad you mentioned the Magnusson-Moss Act, as most people don't know about it. But, this issue is actually car specific. My OCC leaves the stock PCV valve in place and is legal Federally and in my state. It only lengthens the hose to where the catch can is mounted then routes the "filtered" gasses back into the original port on the intake manifold (some states do not allow the "vent to atmosphere" option). Some cars have exemptions that don't pass until after the the car is in production. My 1989 Firebird, and 1995 Caprice, both have exemptions for either bypassing or removing the EGR system (not the PCV, but both had OCCs with PCV valves, and were emmissions compliant). People who modify their cars need to research their own vehicle for Federal and State laws.
@LMacNeill
@LMacNeill 9 жыл бұрын
Ahh! Ok, then. If you don't have to remove the PCV valve, and you're not venting the fumes to the atmosphere, then yeah I would imagine that your OCC doesn't violate any Federal laws and wouldn't void your warranty. Very good point about it being different for different vehicles. Thanks!

So what about upgrading to 3.73s? I'm really surprised that I barely here anything about upgrading the rear ends in these cars. It's cheap and makes burnouts and donuts easier and more fun to do

Magnaflow seems to be winning a lot of fans. It's deep and "rumbly," but not really aggressive like a V6 or V8 would sound. I will be trying a custom design I'm working out now, but then I may try the Magnaflow Street Series... just so my subscribers have some good comparisons. Then I'll choose whichever I like best out of the two systems.

+Justin Deloatch . I think it must be that they like the economy or they like the challenge of rubbing a V8 guy's nose in it. , I bought the 2016 Mustang GT. It has 435 HP and 400 lb/ft of torque from day one. Put it in track mode and it's a little beast. Then, every mod I add will take me that much further. I think, like most things automotive, it ultimately comes down to what you want to do with the car. Jim

+Justin Deloatch Well when you have to drive 40 to 80 miles daily an ecoboost doesn't sound so bad. You can get yourself the base stage 2 cobb kit and you're cheaper than a GT, get 30 to the gallon, and still get a a car doing 300+ TO THE WHEELS. Sure you're not lugging a beast under your hood but hey its better than the 6 cylinder right.

LOL! Europeans could finally go to the dealer and buy the most popular sports car in the world, the Ford Mustang. Ironically Ford didn't get the ideal it was all about the V8! Having owned an '89 GT hatchback I see what all the fuss is about. Actually opting to LEAVE my exhaust manifolds on and everything to the downpipes, my car ran harder than most 5.0's and the sound was something you feel in your heart no matter what rpm I was at. Looks were decent and still hold up till today. However the interior left much to desire, then again I didn't buy it because of the cloth seats and standard AM/FM cassette player! Top Gear's Jeremy Clarkson clearly had shown Ford of Europe it was time to pull the trigger when he choose a Mustang over arguably America's most iconic sports car the Corvette, and the faster and most scary (Trust me old American made one's back then were just a huge engine with safety a huge afterthought!), Dodge Viper. Then after showing the commercial for the Mustang available for the first time in Europe trashed Ford for giving them a 2.3L Ecoboost convertible! Ford rectified this quickly releasing the same GT model available in the U.S.. Evidence of this may be the driver's side on the left side early in 2015. I'm not sure about that. I had only read left side drivers would be available late 2015 in the GT's. It was almost a huge blunder considering round the world the 2.3L is available in cheaper, lighter, more practical options. I really think for a second it was as if Ford forgot what made the Mustang Iconic in the first place. The growlllllllllllllll of the engine. Letting everyone on the road know what you are driving before they can see you. That being said ironically we in the U.S. want the 2.3l version available in Europe. It has more features and isn't much behind the Gt in power or performance with better fuel economy. Here in the states we see "Stangs daily and the 2.3l Euro reminds us of the 80's majestic turbo charged-Pento engine SVO. Then it was one of the fastest cars you could buy and the fastest Mustang produced for sure during it's run. Today we have so many aftermarket manufactures we can easily add 110 hp like in this video. Lighter materials and kits also add to better e.t. times. I'd still love to own an SVO, but it isn't practical for the price, or keeping it stock which is more money. These newer boosted Mustangs take me back to the days when turbo charged engines were rare in America and almost taboo.

Kevin Norwood It is cooler air. Also the biggest benefit for the so called CAI is that you are generally removing a restrictive intake track and poorly breathing paper filter with a free flowing intake track and better breathing filter. These improvements scale up as you continue to modify your car.

I'm sorry. I know that the eco-boost is huge for Ford and I love it in the Fusion and such, but a fart-can Mustang? That's an insult to Ford lovers and I believe that Carroll Shelby himself has rolled over in his grave when word reached him that Ford put a boosted 4-cylinder engine in the Mustang, along with modifying the exhaust trying to make it sound like a V8 but it becoming a fart-can. Ford, you're better than this.

Cameron Harms Ford Mustang SVO and 80s 4 cylinder mustangs? Carol Shelby himself said it was a leap forward the world wasn't ready for. I think we are ready now. Steve Saleen did facepalm when he heard about the ecoboost mustang. Stating that it was a terrible idea. The end of the muscle car era.

You may be right that the world is ready to see the muscle car go away but I'm telling you now that many people, myself included, are not happy about it. The muscle car is it's own breed that was created with the help of Carol Shelby and others. Ford is now diminishing what some worked so hard to create by making this monstrosity of a vehicle. Sure, it has the mustang on it with the logo with better fuel economy and all, but this is no mustang. It's a sleeper rice burner.

I do much prefer the v8 in a mustang. But unfortunately GM is also following suit with a turbo charged eco tech. dodge has also been looking at throwing a turbo 4 in the challenger. Unfortunately we have to face the reality that rice is taking over the world. I for one don't mind it but at the same time. I wanted the ecoboost v6 in the mustang not the 4. Everyone of the car companies are looking at automotive sales. they dont care much about the enthusiasts just demographic.

For someone whose username is dedicated to a car with a V6 engine, you should practice what you preach. The first Mustang ever made was not an eight cylinder but a six. Those who choose a Mustang model other than V8 are still Mustang owners regardless.
