Got myself a Cherokee, best car I ever owned!
@jamesdewer2 жыл бұрын
I loved mine, ultimately it was too heavy, too low, too expensive to take rock crawling. The one time I did go wheeling the skid plates where abused. The rear selectable locker was used OFTEN. It weighed so much it would hang a wheel going off a paved street curb. It was definitely capable and a beautiful Jeep. My favorite feature was using the selectable low range. The shift gate had 1/4 mph increments. Decending washed out trails, steep, washed out trails the Cherokee basically did everything for you except pick a line. Engaging the electric locker as needed and ignoring what ever body panel was at the time being used.

Love my trailhawk.

I found this vehicle's leather seats to be more comfortable than the bigger Grand Cherokee's firmer seats. Should be the other way around lol. The Renegade and little Cherokee are very common in Trailhawk form, whereas with the big brother Grand Cherokee Trailhawk (made only for 2013), only 2000 of them were made.

too be fair it isn't really hard off roading and push button operation is garage they get stuck over time... spilling drinks over it etc. though i was impressed with the rear locker and the stability programs on this vehicle. great review though man.

Hello, just a suggestion. You might want to move your camera for the next test drive you do. We can clearly see the dash components and your hands but we have little insight about the trail because we can't see it clearly enough. Just a suggestion. Other than that you did well.

Love your vehicle reviews! I'm looking at a subaru crosstrek and the jeep cherokee. It seems that the crosstrek is "comparable" in an all-purpose capable vehicle with higher full economy but, less power. What is your take on the two vehicles for a daily driver that can handle the different elements?
@OldbayRaven7 жыл бұрын
I have owned both (have an 18 Cherokee trailhawk). I'm 10k up in the mountains of CO and the Forester I had struggled and seriously lacked power for even safe road mountain commuting. Passing someone was impossible... The Cherokee with the v6 has tons of power and can tow 4500 lbs so it's in a completely different class. Probably not as reliable as the Subaru obviously but I could never go back to an under powered Subaru.

the rear visibility is very poor, in my opinion.

Am I the only one that finds Off Road Tests to be somewhat pointless? Offroading comes down to straight forward numbers like, approach angle, ground clearance, and the existence of lockers/limited slip differentials/ torque vectoring. Also tires but those can be changed. I am sure they are fun and can be cool to watch but not all that informative.
@EngineeringExplained9 жыл бұрын
Jason .R Sure, ultimately anything comes down to specs. Numbers define everything. But spec sheets are only so detailed and getting out in the dirt is more interesting.
@Jazzzon7779 жыл бұрын
Well with sports cars they use the word feel for just about every element worth analyzing. Steering, brake and gas pedal, transmission, body/frame stiffness, finally suspension. Off road vehicle analysis has almost none of these things. I do realize that it is fun but its more fun for viewers if we have a view from outside. =)
@curtis49919 жыл бұрын
Jason .R It's a marketing gimmick to deceive you into thinking that your getting a capable offroading vehicle. When in all reality a 90's Honda accord could tackle the vast majority of this course.

when it's in 2WD mode, is it in FWD or RWD? I know the older version Cherokee's based on RWD system.
@EngineeringExplained9 жыл бұрын
7150285 I would imagine RWD, but I believe the Renegade is FWD when disengaged.
@71502859 жыл бұрын
Engineering Explained crossover SUVs are FWD based from what I've heard. Idk if the Cherokee is consider a crossover.
@svdmaele9 жыл бұрын
7150285 I expect it to be FWD. Don't they have a movie on jeep.com how the rear axle disconnects in order to increase mpg ?
