Yes to Old EV tests... Now cars like this, the leaf 30, original 28kwh Ioniq, in some cases 40kwh Zoe, are coming to good used prices now. I can get a good one of these in the UK for around 10-11k now. Very good value used EV.

Hi Jørgen ... The word you need is "great". The word "grate" typically has different meanings either: grate or grating to describe an annoyance like a uncomfortable sound. Or grate as in what you might find in a fire place, a metal grate that holds the fuel. Or grate as in to grate or shred food on a metal implement with slicing holes cut into it (grater). Good old English language!

Kia Soul EV is a fine car. My Soul is now over 6 years old and got a year ago after 135'000km running, a new battery under warranty. With the newest battery cells, the origin cells didn't produce anymore, the range is now much more from 190km (Swiss Autobahn) up to 270km (Summer). The Soul EV is the perfect car for me 👍😎

I got a KIA Soul 2016 from KIA just a couple months ago. So far, I'm loving it. The SOH is 100% so somewhere along the line the previous owner got a warranty I believe before, but with the condition of the car, I could tell it was taken great care of with only a couple scratches outside and a stain on one chair. It's finally getting warmer here and when the temp was 20 degrees when I charged it at 100%, I got 167km of range more than the promised 149km for the 27kwh. Fantastic car for urban driving

My first EV was a 2017 Soul that looked exactly like this one. Honestly I wish I’d kept it, because it was the most comfortable EV I’ve had. Great combination of comfortable seat, soft suspension and quiet ride. Just now my commute is 80mi per day and while I can charge at work and at home, it just gets a little tricky since my partner also drives an EV and also drives 80 miles per day, but can’t charge at work.

Maybe to much to ask but since you love excel sheets . Each EV has their selected supplier which supplied a battery with a defined cell chemistry and BMS and W/WO thermal management system. With all your skills you could actually find out which supplier that had the best battery quality for long term usage. (In normal Norway weather that is of course. The same car placed in Madrid could end up with a different degradation result since it will be exposed to a lot higher temperatures over its lifetime). Love your work.

My early 2016 soul ev with similar KMs has 19% degradation according to soulEV Spy, consistent with your test. bought it early last year in DE for 15k EUR used (full spec, at that point degradation was less). It's still a great daily driver as I don't drive long distances during the week. Chademo is somewhat limiting, but charge speed is great ( up to 46kW on 50kW charger), and there are still plenty of Chademo chargers in my area of Germany (usually triple chargers). And warranty on battery is 7 years, if services were done correctly.

I believe older/shorter range EVs generally get the batteries cycled more, and to higher+lower SOC regularly, which cause more significant degradation. Additionally, the fast charge and discharge rates, as a ratio, are SOMETIMES higher as well (I know chemistries vary), and don't do these EVs any favor either. I was once interested in the first gen Soul EV, but was troubled by reading a forum that was suggesting a particular cell, at the rear most of the pack to be air cooled, had a tendency to fail. Whether or not there is any real merit to those claims, I can only speculate. I am glad they went to thermal management using liquid, in the second generation.

Good to find out how good these cars are when they are five years old or more (certainly in the UK many private buyers don't buy new). Degradation will matter much less with newer cars that have a good range to start out with (20% loss from 400km range is still 320km).

The low milage is likly the cause of the high degradation. I bought a 58,900 Mitsubishi PHEV which was down to 84% after daily use and frequent recharging this went upto 99% before dropping slowly to 80%'ish at 190,000 miles and 6.5 years old. So given a few weeks of use and some miles under it's wheels I would expect it to also.improve dramatically.
