Finally sometime understands the point of this car. It's about the emotion and the real world experience of driving it, rather than lap times. You've gone up in my estimation.

Guido, I totally agree with you! Maserati is all about the sound, design and passion. Real car people will appreciate it, even though it is not the fastest sports car around...it is a GT car with a soul. I think that people that buy a car like this instead of a Ferrari or Lamborghini really have taste and know about cars. Cheers from Slovenia.

One of the best Pininfarina designs ever. And that engine will surely be missed when the new 3.8l turbo takes over, because of the sound. Maserati should make a final version. 'Low' weight as MC Stradale and with ZF HP8 gearbox.

Guido, I have said it before - your camera work and cinematic work always amazes me! I'm wondering how you got the shots where there was a camera car in front of the Maserati? I say that because it looked like the rear mounted camera on the camera car was following the Maserati, keeping it in the shot. If I'm honest, I've never been much of a Maserati guy. Their designs never really excited me. They are very comfortable though, and great for long drives in comfort and speed.

I’m in the process of buying a car and this along with the Porsche Panamera, and BMW m850i are the 3 on my list I’m struggling to decide upon. I don’t necessarily like the new 2023 Maserati and it’s updated look. For some reason this body style looks far more attractive to me…more aggressive. That said, the Porsche and BMW both have far more options and updated features to offer than the 2018 Maserati does…but it’s just something about that Maserati and it’s prestige and notoriety along with that NA V-8 engine and that exhaust note that keeps calling me!!! I just can’t decide!!! It’s driving me crazy!!

@TheGetawayer9 жыл бұрын
Troy Bonde Thanks ! Well, I wouldn't compare these two to each other to be honest. The Maserati is a big gran tourer that drives like a sportscar, but the 991 S is a true if NOT the sportscar, but much smaller in size. The Maserati is more of a 6series, Aston or SL rival, I would say :)

Totally depends on *which* 911. If you are looking at an ultimately quick 911 - say a turbo or higher - well, you're looking at a totally different sort of car. If that's what you want - fine the 911 will be great. However if you are looking at a 911 Carerrea a *soft* 911, then you got to ask your self what you want it for. The driving dynamics of the 911 will be better - yes - but, are you actually looking to find the last fraction of grip and lateral G capability of the car on every corner? If you are driving it on road - probably not, and on that basis the Maserati is going to best the 911 in nearly every other category other than absolute driving dynamics:. Looks, sound, evocative character. Ultimately there is an X factor to this: if you were buying a sensible car you would just buy a ford fiesta. Perfectly sensible cars. But you're not being sensible with a car like this - you're buying a bit of stardust, a bit of magic: For me the Maserati Granturismo has that bit of magic about it in a way a 911 just doesn't. You either "get" that or you don't I guess...

Since Ferrari is going the turbo charged route, do you think the next generation Maseratis will also be turbo charged ? The 488 doesn't sound bad at all, but to be honest the 458 was in a league of its own. Aston martins on the other hand will soon get hand built AMG engines and even in the event of them going turbo, AMGs always sound great. So what are your views on this ? PS what do you feel about the gearbox? It's no pdk, but is it great anyway? Thx, great video, huge fan :) cheers!
@jortepap9 жыл бұрын
the 488 sounds really crap. Even for a turbocharged engine.
@TheGetawayer9 жыл бұрын
Arman Talwar Thanks Arman ! I did drive the turbo V6 in the new Quattroporte and did like that engine, especially its sound was the best of any turbo V6 I've driven. I have full trust in Mercedes-AMG to build great turbo engines and I will propably have a go in the new C63 later this year to confirm what I already experienced in the SL63...Can't comment on the Ferrari, unlike Maserati they don't have a german pr-department that could give me a car for a test. That said I think NA engines will be missed greatly, especially once you'v driven a car like this GranCabrio :) - Guido

@NuclearGrizzly9 жыл бұрын
TheGetawayer Good to know. I've always liked Maserati but everyone I have met that owned one has had problems. I have a current generation 911 Turbo S. Though it has been in for the recalls it has never broken down or left me stranded. Porsche tends to take care of these things in a timely manner. My business partner had a 2012 Maserati and was constantly waiting for a tow truck. BTW, the car I learned to drive in was a '74 Bora.

Heine Pedersen actually you're wrong, people who drive these cars enjoy car even its interior, while those who buy it as status throphy also want more for their money, that more is in Mclaren, Ferrari etc..
@tricky4159 жыл бұрын
A couple faults of this car the journalist fails to mention: 1)Maserati GT is slow as hell for the money compared to competitors within similar price range. 2)The gearbox is slow as hell. Shifting in a true sports car needs to be more seamless within this price range. Everything else was perfect :)
@TheGetawayer9 жыл бұрын
tricky415 I don't agree with you on these ' faults ': The car delivers perfect speed for publuc roads and the ZF automatic is actually on a pretty similiar level to what AMG puts into their cars. You should drive one before you judge it ;)
@Tilum29 жыл бұрын
+tricky415 The faults you mention are potentially model dependant - the original (4.2l V8) GranTurismo was a considerably more sedate drive. But the 4.7l V8 improved things dramatically (both power and torque delivery). The gearboxes too have evolved over time and vary across the model range. As +TheGetawayer says, the ('MC-Auto Shift') ZF automatic gearbox in the GranCabrio MC (and GranCabrio Sport) is pretty responsive (and smooth), much more than the 'MC-shift' (robotisized manual) gearbox that's available in the GranTurismo when driven in 'Auto' mode (which can be slow to respond and quite jerky).
@stu10024 жыл бұрын
Maserati is slow? Rubbish. First off, this is a blindingly quick car compared to 95% of other cars on the public road. Second, the fact its not "insane" in its performance means you can actually "stretch its legs" on a public road without ending up in a ditch, in prison or in the morgue. Youre going to want to enjoy taking this thing to the rev limiter now and then. You simply can't do that in a quicker car on a public road for any length of time without being at insane speeds.
