Mazda's three-row crossover hasn't changed much in the last several years, but Cars.com reviewer Kelsey Mays says the CX-9 is aging fairly well with a comfortable, high-quality interior and precise handling. Room could be an issue for families, however, with subpar storage space for small items and a small cargo area behind the third row. Check out the video for more.

* New certified owner correction: it absolutely does NOT suck at passing at highway speeds. This was the last year it had an F-150 engine so not sure where that's coming from. Also, the manual shifter is easy to use if you don't like the gearing. My only two problems with it are not speeding mostly-by-accident and mileage which would bother me more if I were a commuter. Aside from the leather it's also true materials are a little less lux than its contemporaries like the CX-5 that got updated more regularly. That changes in 2016. I think I would miss the V6 though.

I have all those gripes mentioned in the video. Another one is that the driver side strut in currently at the dealership being fixed. There was a very aparant clunking noise coming from the suspension. They did not find the noise i was hearing at first and I was asked to come down to show them. Sure enough after 1800 miles, something wrong with the suspension. I had serveral issues with the 2010 Mazda 3 I also purchased new. I was hoping after 6 years, they would have fixed these ridiculous issues. I was offered the Grand Touring at $32k so I hated passing up good deals. Never again Mazda.

Considering that 2015 was being sold at hefty discounts of 5 to 9k usd it is a great deal, even that old it still offers best family friendly handling and surefootedness in the class...

Bought a brand new car for the first time in my life. It is a 2015 Mazda CX9. I have had an intermittent electrical problem and my vehicle does not always start. This has happened over 40 times since I purchased in Feb 2015. I have brought in for repair over 5 times. I have been working with Mazda's mediation department and the BBB Auto Line. Sadly Mazda claims that the car not starting is considered "normal" for a brand new Mazda and no repairs are necessary. Just warning everyone who is debating about a Mazda. I clearly meet all the guidelines for the Lemon Law, but Mazda is making it an uphill battle. I hate to leave bad reviews, but they are refusing to replace or repurchase the vehicle. Just want you all to know it is NORMAL FOR MAZDAS NOT TO START according to Mazda Headquarters!

Just traded my 2008 CX9 grand touring with 160K miles for a 2015 CX9 grand touring. Sticking with what works . Kind of glad there's been little change. At least I can get in and drive without having to re-learn it. Wish they'd left the flared tailpipes and a little silver in the taillights. Now it looks like a plain ole Porsche Cayenne or not as pretty in the rear as a Lexus. Piano key front end is cool except when it gets dinged.

fair review. often lost in today's car review mongols. I own a 2011 CX-9 and bought it for the fact that it hasnt changed since 2007 when it was first introduced. That means, logically, that it will have less problems than a constantly changing SUV. I find the looks to be still on par with today's SUVS although I wish the price was a bit lower so I can jump into a new model. 32000-35000 starting point for essentially a 7 year old design is odd. Still, like this person said, the leather and interior plastics are top notch. Add a solid bose system and things are very enjoyable.

Agreed! Mazda can definitely use a redesign for the CX-9. It holds good pedigree for road dynamics and interior comfort, so the next iteration should be on point. It should solve the current issues of long gearing by introducing an all new 10 speed transmission, and an electric plug-in drivetrain. Will Mazda bring back the rotary??? This time in turbo configuration please!! Scratch that! TWIN TURBO!!!

I love Mazda but the CX-9 is TERRIBLY outdated. They have done very well with the Mazda 3, 6 and CX-5 so there really are no excuses here.
