If you have tge 2.5 liter non turbo you have a good car. 2.3 turbo is fast but no matter how often the oil is changed the pcv cloggs, oil goes to hell, and then the turbo goes. @ScottDreyfus
@ScottDreyfus 3 жыл бұрын
The only service interval that's a little different is the transmission service. You need to change the fluid every 60k. It's a cheap service though as its just a drop and drain filter from the bottom. It's around 130 to 180$ at a service center. It changes about 1/3 of the system fluid out. The forums will tell you to do it a little more often like 30k and these cars will last for half a million miles. I just crossed 140 in my Mazda 6. I've had it for 11 yrs and it's never had a service issue.

Hey Scotty, I thank you SO much for answering my question, I asked if I should change the pump in my 2011 CX9 allwheel or not (seems like they made some parts in the car look nicer, when I compare it with this model here). Now I am happy that I just have to change the cooling fluid. And I also have to say, I am veeery satisfied with this car, we drive through the alps every year for abut 10 hours one side and when I jump out of the car at the destination, I do it with a smile on my lips, because this car is f* comfortable! No back ache nothing. Plus the engine has pretty good power, believe me, you don't want to drive behind a trailer from the Netherlands during the whole travel through the alps and babe, these times are gone. I really love this car and just got it by accident, it is usually not sold here in Switzerland, but I was looking for something different than those overpriced VW busses and we are fans of japanese cars (we have 3 kids and the 4th is coming soon) aaand we were lucky. And people, the BOSE sound in there is veeery well, not to compare it with the later BOSE in Mazda 3,6 CX3,5 etc. I don't have this blind side thing, and thank god also no other electronic problems, f* everything just works fine, that's amazing when I compare it to the expensive VW cars where you buy a sh*load of electronic problems. Scotty thanks again and have a good time at your new home!

Regarding the 2008 TSX your viewer had that was burning oil. I have a 2011 TSX Wagon and it burns about a quart of oil between oil changes. Acura sent me a letter extending the warranty because of this problem, but my consumption was not enough to trigger any repair or replacement on their part. The engine has low tension piston rings that are prone to sticking. They suggest using only Top Tier gas. I was using gas from the local Wawa but switched to brands with enough detergent to qualify as Top Tier. I also added Techron about half a dozen times over a two year period and oil consumption has decreased considerably.

Only issue electronically is the dashboard fog light icon will come on slightly and cut out the clock in the process. Sometimes works turning on the fog light switch then back off to get the clock back. Either way for a 31 year old car only having this as an electronic problem I'd say it did great.

I got my 2010 CX-9 for $2,000. The water pump had blown up and the lady kept driving it till it stranded her on the freeway. $2,000 and a low mileage used engine later and it's on the road and doing well. By the way you can do the water pump without pulling out the engine. The best thing to remember on a CX-9 is to monitor the coolant reservoir and keep one eye on the temperature gauge when you drive. If you're coolant level is dropping and you don't see any obvious leaks it's probably your water pump. And at that time it's a good idea to put in new VVTs and timing chains.

I have this magic car CX-9, model year 2009, now I have 190k kilometers in EU version, just changing every 10k kms engine oil (incl. filters of course), changing every 60k kms coolant fluid, oil in automatic transmission and in 4x4 drive, brake pads, that´s it! Of course, there are also some good cars, but honestly, CX-9 is very reliable car in comparison with its price, quality and value!Fully recommend it and thank you, Scotty for the videos, please, keep going!

I must've chosen the wrong Mazda or bought one that wasn't well maintained, because my 2010 Mazda 3 with the 2.5L 4 cylinder is not very good. About a week after buying it used with 131K miles on it, the check engine light went on. It had a P0420 code (catalyst efficiency below threshold). I tried your suggestion about putting lacquer thinner in the gas, but that didn't fix the problem. Just got a new catalytic converter installed (the one connected to the exhaust manifold) courtesy of my county government (they paid for $1K of the total $1300 bill) but now I've got P2096 and P0138 codes coming up, which I didn't have before. I never had these problems when I owned Hondas or Toyotas, even with higher mileage.

Strange that those 3.7 ford V6s have water pumps like that. The old 2.5 and 3.0l V6 had a normal one. It was on the gearbox end of the engine which is a bit strange, but it was relatively accessible and they rarely caused problems. Mazda once used those engines too, although I think they actually used the Jaguar version of it with better cylinder heads and coil on plug ignition.

I have an 08 CX-9 with 171k+ miles on it, I bought it used with about 154k+ miles on it. I just recenlty got my coolant changed because I noticed the temp gauge was starting to ride just above where it normally did when I got it and it returned to normal. I'm gonna keep my fingers crossed on the water pump because the engine is still smooth and powerful. My A/C still blows cold, great highway crusier, great u turn radius, gas mileage not great but not the worst either.

I have a 2013 Mazda cx-5. You can see on my channel only do basic fluid maintenance. Bought pre-owned at 40k, put another 90k on it and still drives like a top. Only went through couple set of tires, tie rod ends and just did the lower control arm bushings. Just don't get the earlier cx-7 turbos, or mazda 3's with that 2.3L ford engine. The timing chain tensioners are known to fail and when the timing goes, so does your entire engine!

I also have a 2008 Mazda except it's a Mazda 5 with a 2.3 4 cylinder. It had 83,000 Miles when I bought it now it has 180,000. The electric power steering went out-mazda fixed it free. Changed axel. That's about it. I've kept it maintained. I change oil every 10,000 miles with synthetic. I've taken the transmission oil pan off a couple times, put in a new filter and replaced the fluid that came out.....About 4 quarts. Still get 30mpg going to work if I really try!

I had a Scion IA (Mazda 2). The breaks would speak and groan, not just when there was rust on the rotor. Break job did not fix that. When I put the shifter in park and hit Engin Off, the engine would stop, but the car would think is was still running, can't lock etc. I had to start it up, go to drive and then park 2 or 3 times. Toyota had nothing to say since it was an intermittent problem.

I have a Mazda 3. It's a solid, well-built car that runs like a top. It has never burned oil. I change the oil at 10-12k mile intervals, basically once a year, and the oil analysis always comes back stellar. The manual transmission still shifts smooth. It's needed a couple water pumps and basic maintenance like plugs, oil changes, brakes, etc. Despite regular washes in the winter, including the undercarriage, the body has rotted through the wheel wells into the the sills and cannot be cost-effectively repaired. It was built with almost no corrosion resistance in key structural areas of the underbody. Never again!
