It's funny how in the USA the 300 is the base model when here in Europe the base model is the 180. Then you have the 220 which is the most common, the 250 and the 300, thus making the 300 kind of a high end model.

Depends on who you're talking to. Most people here would rather drive the c220 diesel than any other model because of fuel prices and diesel loving mentality.

It's only the base model because they only really sell the 300, hybrid, 43 and 63 in the US. In the UK at least, we get all of those models plus the 200, 220 and 250 with petrol, diesel and hybrid versions of all of them.

Same here in Malaysia. It's 180, 200, 250, 300, 350e, 43, 63, 63s. The 300 is more than enough for daily duties as 250 is considered 'bare minimum'

I was out looking for a higher mileage 09 E63 AMG and the dealer turned me on to a 2016 C300. Might sound crazy, but these C Class models are so well put together and even though they are MUCH slower, they are no slouches. I love my purchase.

I hate the base screen, had the command pack put in for our car which makes the bezel pretty thin and it looks acceptable. plus you get the burmeister audio with it.

It kind of makes me sad. I love my c63s, but when i see a car that costs half as much with almost the exact same interior i want to cry... Damn amg name up-charge. I know the components added from the 2 models don't cost that much more in comparison. Either the c300 owners are getting a great deal or the amg owners are getting screwed. Nice review :)

Coming from a Japanese automotive industry enthusiast, I drove a Mercedes Benz for the first time that was that C-Class 300 a 2015 the 2.0 4 cylinder turbo, I was extremely impressed how much power that 4 cylinder turbo has making it feel like it was a 6 cylinder car, also how smooth it Rides compare two BMWs that always have that rough mechanical feeling to it. And I'm also really suprized that there not that expensive when you consider Mercedes-Benz all your running into the 80s_ 90s grand but not at all, at the dealer it was pre-owned certified with only 20,000 miles with every Bell and whistle in it, and man I can't tell you how much I love that dual sunroof or rather panoramic sunroof that is one of the coolest things in the world it almost makes you ask why does anyone need a convertible? bottom line, I love this car I have more respect for Mercedes-Benz then I ever did before. I don't think I'll ever like it more than Lexus but I definitely gain more respect for Mercedes-Benz especially for that C-Class that's all I've ever drove for the first time in the Mercedes line and it completely changed my mind and way of thinking of that company. After all Mercedes is a master engineering manufacturer who's going to tell them how to make cars lol.

The transmission in the C63's is not a true "dual clutch". It is what MB calls an MCT (multi-clutch transmission). If you read about it it is basically an automatic with the torque converter removed and clutch mechanisms in their place. Similar, but not the same as the dual clutch in say the SLS AMG.

It doesn't die around 4500 RPM, it just doesn't build more power after 4000 RPM. So, short shifting isn't the answer, because power is constant from 4000 RPM to about redline, versus having to build again.

Pretty sure every car disengages the AC at full throttle. At least every car I've ever had. It's not for horsepower, it's the save the AC compressor from higher RPMs.

A/C's disengaging at full throttle or at high RPM is no so much about getting all the power you can, but more to save the compressors from committing suicide. Also won't hold up the serpentine and cause belt slip and belts to hop off pulleys.

That final comment about the interior rattles would concern me, in regards to potentially buying into the C63. In spending a little time around some of the AMG forums, I've seen more than a few complaints about serious noises coming from the dash. I wonder if there are some interior engineering / assembly issues with all of the early-ish C model cars?

im a service advisor for a mercedes-benz dealership in the bay area.. and oh my god the complaints of windnoise and rattles on the c class is overbearing! i own a c300 lease (not as fancy as yours, just a black/black with black wood and 18" option wheels with p1) and i learned to tune out the rattles.. the build quality is questionable on these newer mercs
