I love this historical documentary & commentary. I have researched Thomas A Dorsey sung his song "If You See My Savior". The group I got together to sing this song did a great job and it was a spiritual experience for me.

He wrote the classic "Peace In The Valley" specifically for the late great Mahalia Jackson. But for some reason, she never recorded it. Mahalia Jackson, earlier in her career, had been Dorsey's song demonstrator. From 1936 to 1946, they criss-crossed the country, singing Dorsey's songs in black churches; some rejecting them for being too bluesy. They also demonstrated the material on street corners for whatever coins they could get. Those people back then, sang out of their faith, belief, hope, and joy!---Not for show. From there, Gospel's "Golden Age" was launched. Thank you RicardoBDC, for this informative snippet of historical & cultural importance.
