Rhodessa had one of the most powerful soprano voices in her prime. Even in her 80s it's still arresting, but in it's prime it was FIRE!

It was gospel music with substance. Nothing lightweight about those singers.

Before any of the other groups there were The Barrett Sisters. Let it be known that these women had a sound that was resounding! The fact that pretty all three of them were sopranos made their sound that much more bigger and round. There will NEVER be another group to do it better!

SAY AMEN SOMEBODY is the best documentary I have ever seen! I had the pleasure of seeing the Barrett Sisters in Cambridge, MA some years ago. It was sad to see Delois in a wheelchair but it didn't take away from the concert - they were fabulous!!!! I am so glad I got to see them perform "live". It meant everything!

I remember seeing Say Amen Somebody when it first hit the movie theaters in 1982, i was 17 yrs old, and hearing the Barrett Sisters sing for the first time had everything in me wanting to shout, i sat and watched the documentary 3 times because it was so mesmerizing, uplifting and educational. I loved learning about Thomas A Dorsey, Mother Willie Mae Ford Smith, and Sallie Martin . This movie introduced me to The FABULOUS Barrett Sisters, and I have been a fan ever since. ❤❤❤❤❤❤

Their music brings conviction upon the hearer. People can get saved with this kind of singing...and then live right!

You're right ... their voices, along with the conviction of the Gospel they sang with, had the power to draw folks to Christ.

These ladies!!!! Talent, beauty, intelligence, realness...! What is it like to KNOW you've done something important for God in the world? It should have been against the law for any performance not to have been recorded. RIP Ms. DeLois. A job well down. And to Ms. Billie and Ms. Rodessa, thank you. Any more we can get from you is just delicious icing on an already extraordinarily good cake.

They helped SO MANY couples in the ministry because its a very real thing. It showed just how authentic and real they were about their ministries a d their lives with the Lord. We look at these Gospel giants and forget they were real people. Not superhumans. This makes meove them more than I did before. And thats a whole lot!

When I first watched this movie yearrrs ago, I didn't even catch the clatter of the spoon til just now, but I caught right on to that look..even had to rewind it SEVERAL times before she even smiled ever so sweetly & said "do you want eggs to go with your sausage?" After that, I was beyond done!! Must get this movie in my collection (already have the soundtrack, but having seen the interviews just makes me want it more!)

No disrespect to her husband. May the Holy Father bless his soul, but I didn't care for her husband. He was keeping her small instead of encouraging her. She was a great talent. She should have been singing to thousands, and he should have been supporting her dream, not limiting her to just himself and his relatively small ministry. It just seemed selfish to me.
@larryduplechan3546Ай бұрын
Plus, why would you marry Delois Campbell and then expect her to just be the First Lady of your little folding-chairs church? He knew who she was. I wish I had her self control.
