Les, the Canadian Swamp King, ran into a bit of trouble with his 2015 Yamaha SVHO FX Cruiser personal watercraft jetski when it suddenly quit on him. So naturally we volunteered to take a look at his engine and see if we can fix it for him, as it is our winter break, after all.
In this third video of the 2015 Yamaha FX Cruiser SVHO Engine Repair and troubleshooting series, we test the water jacket of the cylinder head for possible leaks.

That "other cover" at 2:30ish mark did you check for cracking along the wall from piston bits?

Yes, but ultimately our eyes were not good enough for the job. We ultimately did find the leak though. See: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fXO9anaid7l3jZI.

There is a surprising amount of cracking, but I can’t recall if there was any on the inner wall. The block is now back with the owner so we can’t check.

Great video series, I don't even own a Yamaha just enjoy the videos. But I got a quick question. 3:35 - it looks like the valve sleeve in the head on the right appears to be missing a chunk, and I thought you had pulled that chunk out a few seconds before. Wouldn't that have been the culprit then? A weak cylinder head, causing the valve sleeve to break, then either allowing the valve to bend/allowing the chunk of the sleeve that broke off to fall down into the combustion chamber and contact the piston and valve, smashing the piston. Genuinely confused as to what else could be the culprit. Thoughts?

3:20 is where it looks like the missing chunk is pulled out

We took out the valve spring retainers at 3:20 (we show one of the two pair). You're right though that the missing piece from the valve sleeve is about the same size, but that's just a coincidence. We've got thoughts about what happened on our next video to be released April 1st, so stay tuned! Thanks for your comment.

Keep checking the cylinder head. I had same problem. Turned out to be a porous void in the casting. If you link me to your email address I will send you a video of where the leak was found.

I sent the video to 3ft Deep. Feel free to post it for others to view. Patrick Chiu, luckily the ski was still under warranty and the head was replaced, although a couple rides later the timing chain broke.

I would be hard pressed to say this is any sort of an instructional video. Lacks a lot of narrative for something this involved. Just video taping the tear down doesn't really do it justice.

You're right. That's why we don't call it "How To: ..." We are just trouble-shooting, and never actually fixed it.
