What I took away from this is that Jaguar is still the drivers car...not the best luxury, features, pricing, or fuel economy...but if you want the most connected and most fun actual driving...the lightness, steering feel, and handling will outperform all of the competition...another great one Alex!

Jag is easily the best looking luxury motor, interior is classy, ride and handling is class leading... Jag is more reliable than my new shape AMG Mercedes, don't believe all the muppets who are stuck in the 1970s still, Jag can match and surpass the Germans. They are mechanically stronger than all the German brands, any issues tend to be minor, such as software updates and trivial electrical stuff, nothing that will leave you stuck at the side of the road, unlike my Merc, which has been no where near as reliable/dependable as my previous Jag, that's why I'm getting a Jag again soon.

My 2013 and 2016 Volkswagen Jettas both had/have (I traded one car for the other) the 1.4L turbo and supercharged 4 cylinder engine mated to a 7 speed DSG. Front wheel drive. So I know what you mean by urgency of a supercharged engine. But trust me - with the 2 combined, the torque and performance fun are endless.

Excellent review as always. I think a big part of why this class has got so soft is because the class under it has filled its former role. The F30 3 series matches the E39 5 series in all dimensions, in and out, besides exterior length. The current 5 is about the size of an E38 7 series. Personally I am not sure I see the point of "sporty" sedans of this size... I think BMW and Mercedes made the right play. But it looks like Jag did a good job and achieved what they set out to do. I am just not sure if it's what the market wants. They have an uphill fight with their weak residuals too.

With the Kawasaki K2's new 2 stage centrifugal supercharger that doesn't require any inter-coolers because the air is moving so fast it doesn't have enough time to increase temperature.

Great review Alex. Several good looking cars in this segment, but they're small town beauty queens compared to the Irina Shayk that is the XF. Gorgeous. As for the 535xi -- it is certainly a handsome, high tech, respectable thing, but man it steers like a land barge compared to the CTS and XF. And those run flat tires make the ride a lot worse than it should be.

I own a 2017 Jaguar XF 35t R Sport. I absolutely love it. I haven't had any major issues, only a bad sim card with maps. All services are included within the 5 year or 60,000 mile warranty should you buy one within that time frame, as I did. I previously owned a Lexus ES 350 which I loved, but once I drove my Jag, I was sold. I have every upgrade and didn't pay for it. Bought for 26,000 with 28,000 miles at the time. Go for it. I see the 10 of 10 for trunk space and you say it is enormous...but what exactly are the CuFt? You also state all turbo charged engines suffer from turbo lag...but you are wrong. Not one of my Ford Ecoboost engines has this. My 2010 2.5 eco never exhibited it nor has the 13 Escape 2.0. But I do LOVE the supercharge/turbo combination which is why I am leaning towards the Volvos these days. If I had to pick an SUV today, it would be the CX60. And looking forward to the big and beautiful v90 wagon next year. With this car being so light weight, why is it slow to 60? If I am wrong, my MKS, at nearly 4700 lbs, does it at 5.6...or so the reviews state. So, if you bottom line is the BMW, what would you advise about long term care and cost between all three...the Lexux, BMW or Jag?
@paulpellico37978 жыл бұрын
+paul pellico sorry...that is the 3.5 ecoboost in the MKS. It is one hell of an engine and never has torgue steer. It does have enormous power and feels every bit a big V8 with low end power.
@AAutoBuyersGuide8 жыл бұрын
+paul pellico There is always turbo lag, it's not as pronounced in modern engines but it's always there and shows up in 0-60 and 30-60 passing style maneuvers. It's a simple physics affair, turbos have to spool up and it's not instant. Superchargers are tied to the engine mechanically so they are always spinning at a fixed ratio with the engine. This is why for instance Volvo uses a supercharger and a turbo on their new T6 engine. The MKS is 4453 lbs, the Jaguar is 3880 and the Jag is 3-4 tenths faster than the MKS. That makes sense as the MKS Ecoboost makes more power and more torque than the Jag but it's heavier. Long term costs are tricky. Over 50% of this segment gets leased, so in reality long term costs don't factor into the majority of buying decisions in this segment. Lexus, Infiniti and Cadillac would be the lower cost to own long term and the Europeans would be the highest.
@paulpellico37978 жыл бұрын
+Alex on Autos yes...so I am told about the lag. It is very pronounced in our Tiguan. And when I test drove the GTI...it totally turned me off. Getting from red light to red light would have been impossibly nutty. I have gotten used to the Tiguan's...but it does take some getting used to every time my daughter leaves it for me. But it never shows up, regardless of the theory, in the Fords. I suppose it is there technically...but realistically it is unnoticeable. I mean completely. I understand from research Ford has placed some sort of software of other mechanism to prevent or make it unnoticeable. So, IMO, it is basically gone. At least when compared to those cars I know.
@AAutoBuyersGuide8 жыл бұрын
+paul pellico The big thing is the size of the engine itself, a 3.5L displacement helps out. I still notice it with the 3.5L Ecoboost.

+Chris Sorreda Depends on what you want out of a car. Alex's summary / comparison at the end was spot on. Having owned a 535i RWD (current gen) I would say that it is definitely the ultimate luxury machine, not the ultimate driving machine. If you want a capable comfy cruiser with a lot of toys, then it's a great car. Also scheduled to be replaced in approximately 1 year's time.

@nischintr8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the review. The conclusion was similar to what I concluded when I test drove the bimmer and the jag. I think Alex missed touching on the jag's interior quality.It did not feel like it came from a > $50,000 car. Every jag in the dealership had some kind of rust on the brakes. The rear AC vents squeaked and the plastics felt cheap. The plastic door covering the cup holder felt really cheap as well. The infotainment is no match to the Audi or BMW. The thud when the door closes did not sound good to my ears. The brake and gas pedal were too close. I did not feel confident about pressing on the right pedal when the time comes. I ended pressing both pedals a couple of times. Why does it have to be so close on an automatic? The leather on the seats felt loosely stitched. I didn't like this. It reminded me of a used leather couch. Not tight like the german counterparts. There was more supercharger whine than engine note. These things might seem small but try living with them.
@AAutoBuyersGuide8 жыл бұрын
+Nischint Pamadi Interior quality in the Jaguar is easily the equal of the others except the new E-Class, but the style is a different matter. The style isn't my cup of tea either but the parts and fit and finish are on par with the others. There are plenty of nits to pick in the A6 and 535i as well. Much of this is just personal preference.

Is this fruitcake comparing these cars to a Toyota Sienna? The 252 horsepower base A6 is not "wicked fast" and the 340hp jag isn't "the next level" lmao. The 0-60 and 0-60 braking of the Jag r mediocre and awful respectively, yet he gives them an A+ and A. The Jag's EPA rated 20/30mpg is excellent, yet this Clown rates it as "C+". Where'd they find this guy? A Toyota Corolla meet up?
