Jaguar's XE combines the urgency of the BMW 3-Series with the handling ability of the Cadillac ATS, handling refinement of the Lexus IS and a price tag sized below the Audi A4. While it's still not my "all-around" top pick in this competitive segment it is a close number two and certainly my choice if you're looking for the most fun for your dollar.

At 4:08 - I have purchased the 2018 Jaguar XE 25t Premium RWD. When I drove it back home after purchase, 700 miles. I put it in Eco mode and drove very conservatively. At best I got a solid 44MPG. I can assure you that it was accurate. I got around 39 to 44MPG the entire way back. I left with a full tank (16 gallons) and filled it up at 1/4 tank. Arrived home at 1/2 tank. So far, I love the car. I've had it over a month now and do not regret it. I got the "Vision assist package" which I really like. No more old halogen headlights. Lane assistance. Automatic emergency braking. I love it. It handles amazingly well. I spent 4 years deciding on what car to buy and I think I made the right choice.

One of most comprehensive and honest video reviews I've seen. I purchased a 2017 Jaguar XE 35t R RWD model in mid-January and frankly haven't regretted my decision one bit. After 5000 mile, I haven't had one single problem with the vehicle with the exception on a broken windshield wiper that occurred at a car wash (it was replaced free by the local Jaguar dealer). One aspect you may want to include in future reviews is the warranty information as part of your comparisons.

I like a small V6 still exists. I've always been intrigued with the possibility of using a supercharger with a valve to give the same effect as cylinder deactivation or being off boost in a turbo. Since the supercharger is run by a belt, it would still spin, but when the valve is opened, it doesn't build pressure and so doesn't give boost. Thus, you could have full engine power when wanted and better economy when not needed (cruising on hwy, idling, etc.).

This is so far the nicest review I've seen on this car. Everyone loves how it handles, but nit pick everything that's wrong with the interior. I thought if it was fun to drive, nothing else mattered? And why would a tight back seat be a con? It's called a compact sport sedan for a reason, so that's what a shopper should expect when they want to own one. Keep up the great reviews.
@matthewrogers5153
@matthewrogers5153 7 жыл бұрын
Elliott Manning -- Maybe because everyone's priorities aren't the same as yours? With the amount of time I spend in the car, interior quality is important. That's what turns me off of the 340i, the interior is a bit cheap feeling compared to the Merc or Audi competitors. And as for the back seat...if someone buys a 4-door sport sedan, the backseat is obviously at least somewhat important to them, otherwise they'd just buy a roadster or a coupe. I like the Jag, but in this segment I think the best combination of high quality feel and great performance is the MB C43 AMG. It put the biggest smile on my face, and the interior feels a class above the others.

I love mine. The interior isn't as refined as an Audi, but the upper trims are not bad at all. I'm surprised how many options come standard on the upper trims. Also Jaguar leases very well to a comparable German car. The best part of buying this car is two fold: the dynamics and the exclusivity. Jaguars just aren't that common, especially if you don't live near a big city. BMWS, Audis, Mercs. Cadillac is almost as common as seeing a Toyota. No one really bats an eye at those cars. The driving dynamics are also top notch, and having a supercharger is unique and gives the exhaust a much better stock noise than the turbo competitors. Also the warranty is 5 years 60k and included in that is free maintenance.

Great review, Alex! I have the 2017 XE 35t Premium and I absolutely love it. I was going for a 340i M-sport based on my test drives in this segment, that was until I drove the Jag. I'm not a fan of the full-screen digital instrument clusters in many cars nowadays (Audi, Mercedes, BMW, Cadillac, etc.), because they all use the older type of LCD or LED panels that flickers! They also have high amount of blue light, but that's easy to fix with a layer of yellow tinted film. Many newer computer monitors and some TVs have anti-flicker & low-bluelight features, because those are far less harmful and stressful to the eyes over extended period of time!

Jaguar is superb. Better looks than BMW and ATS, on par with C-class. But it will be more difficult to find parts and it will have lower resale value than C-class, BMW due to the higher overall awareness of the German competitors. The same goes with Volvo by the way.

They made it red, so you would look silly and in turn would make you swap them out, so basically for your safety 😆

Hello Alex. I had one of these for nine days as a rental from Hertz in the Netherlands last week. It was a R design Ingenium 2.0t . I have been driving for 32 years and a Jag has always been on my wish list but maintenance has always kept me away. Anyway the car was disappointing. It does not has instant acceleration and the transmission hunts. When in tight parking areas the warning indicators over ride the backup camera and the X provided to get rid of that pop up warning.....it doesn't work. The seats are great for short distances but driving for an hour on even excellent highways in the Netherlands and Belgium there just isn't enough cushion. My seats were partially manual though. Truck sucks for 30" rolling bags. Max was two and a small laptop backpack. It did look great but I wouldn't buy one. Oh and no Bluetooth......WTH?

Lol ‘no Bluetooth’?? Sounds like a you problem, not the car... the all have Bluetooth. Oh, and you had the poverty pack one, so yeah, probably won’t be as quick as a 3.0 SC V6... I own a 25T R-Sport, and it’s easily the best car I’ve owned, and at least it’s not German!

Sammy P Yeah it probably was me on the Bluetooth when I had that rental. I could not find a way to get it to stream music over Bluetooth. Anyway, It was a euro rental so it was what it was. flyingvengeance fair enough. I think they are the sort of car you need to option up to get the really nice trim and tech. I completely agree, the f type is stunning, and I would’ve had one, but the cheapest one here in Australia was still twice the price of a really nice spec XE... and the insurance would’ve cost a fortune! The XE makes sense when you think of it as an entry point into Jag ownership, without the stuffiness (in my view) of an XJ or XF, and the cost and impracticability of an F-Type.

The materials engineers I've spoken with have all told me that Aluminum seemed like a really great idea before the steel industry decided to really drive down the costs of ultra high strength steels, the latest steel alloys rival aluminum in terms of lightweight strength which is why the BMW 3-Series and ATS (and oddly enough the Mazda MX-5) are so light despite their "conventional" construction.

Since rear seat legroom is marginal, at best, Jag should have made the XE a Coupe, to compete with BMW instead of competing with Jag's own XF for styling. On another note, Heritage is M.I.A. in that Jag is known for its wood veneers. Even a slight display of wood veneer would be appreciated, like the strip across the upper dash and the square-ish panel surrounding the gear selector. Finally, for all of us old fuddy-duddies, the Leaper goes on the bonnet, not the boot-- option that!

Right, news from India. They have a big car company there, called Tata... They just issued a new car - here it is - a Jaguar XE! Or, a review skit in which Alex goes to a night with his spouse in a remote place, flirts _outrageously_ with a waitress, but it's all right because he's got a JAAAAAAAG.

I am a Jag fan but that interior is seriously depressing. Those door cards look awful with all those goofy shapes and the dashboard is as exciting as a funeral. I won't be buying that car.

I would buy the Kia Optima SXL any day of the week over this over priced Ford. The Optima blows this thing away with features, quality, warranty, and looks!

MURRAYsaysHI the Optima interior actually blows away all but the Audi and MB top trim interiors. I agree. Kia Optima SXL would be unstoppable if it had a little more power but overall bargain of the century
