2016-2018 (2019-2021 Classic) Ram OEM Trailer Brake Controller Install | AlfaOBD Programming

In this video I install the 2016+ 4th gen Ram OEM trailer brake controller and program with AlfaOBD.

Great video thank you! Worked great on my 2022 ram 1500 classic. One thing to note on my model, the obd security bypass is located behind the radio. Easy to get at once the center infotainment console is removed. As for the mounting bracket I used rivet nuts in the truck and drilled clearance holes in the bracket. Also worth mentioning I couldn't get my laptop to link with AlfaOBD and obd link MX but I was able to use the AlfaOBD phone app, followed your procedure and it worked flawlessly.

I did the same, every thing works but the manual slider doesnt work. it shows 100% on the dash all the time. i dont know what i did wrong

I found that mounting the module bracket with screws was much to difficult. I drilled the holes in the bracket to match the size of the corresponding holes, then quickly and easily mounted the bracket using pop rivits.

Thank you! I installed this kit and couldn’t find the settings in AlfaOBD, this video helped! Only issue I’m having is the gain buttons or the slide button won’t do anything. I have a 16 Ram. I’m wondering if a trailer needs to be connected to add gain or have the slide button to work. I went through the procedure twice just to make sure everything was enabled or on.

@@vosstransport9200 Yes I did. His instructions in this video are correct. It turns out the brake module under the dash was defective. I purchased the kit off eBay. The seller refunded my money and got it from another seller.

Great video wish this would worked on my 13 it turned on all menus but can't do nothing with it like increasing an decrease gain there but not functioning. Guess I gotta go see stealership

I just got done installing the module and controller. Followed your steps and everything is coming up on the Uconnect screen and I’m the evic screen. But nothing works. I connected my cargo trailer with out any luck says trailer not connected, hooked up my travel trailer camper also with no luck says not trailer connected. I went to settings in the Uconnect screen and choose trailer one but will not let me choose any trailer I put the check mark there and it disappears so o can’t even name a trailer. I know my camper and cargo trailer brakes work and nothing wrong with their connection.

Let me start off with some props on your video. You did a fantastic job from start to finish. Getting that bracket installed is a pain in the A$$! I just tried this recently and have some questions/concerns. At 12:31 you state "Trailer Mode" but you actually select "Trasport Mode". I believe it is safe to assume that you mean "Trailer Type" after just programming "Trailer Name". Transport mode seems to be an option that you do NOT want to enable as it is for placing your vehicle in a transport or SHIP mode. This setting seems to be for leaving the vehicle in somewhat of a storage state to save the battery. Am I correct in this? That being said, I have programmed these settings: "Cust.Set.Menu 2-Trailer Select CSM Present" > Yes "Cust.Set.Menu 2-Trailer Name CSM Present" > Yes "Cust.Set.Menu 2-Trailer Type CSM Present" > Yes "P/T Chassis Net-ITBM/HWM Integrated Trailer Brake Module" > Enabled Everything looks great except I am unable to change the name on any of the trailer names. When I select another option (like "car" for example), the check mark is selected for the "Car" option for approximately 2-3 seconds and then reverts to the original selection. It will not change. Not a deal breaker, but a little frustrating. Any ideas?

That's an OEM trailerbrake. Any mopar place or salvage yard if that stuff hasn't been stripped yet. alfaOBD is the program you'll want. 2018 and up you'll need security bypass. ..get the cable kind, better then the modules imo

I have a 2022 and there is no settings menu on the gauge cluster. But if you go into the settings in the infotainment console it's there just like in the video

Every time I got the break even without a trailer my dash changes to the trailer break gain screen. Did I enable the wrong thing on alphaond?

Yes, 2018+ Christer vehicles need a security bypass to work.

What if you have a modified PCM? Can you still flash as normal.

Should have no problem. This flashed the BCM and has nothing to do with the PCM.

However, now even with no trailer connected, every time I push my brake pedal the trailer brake instrument illuminates on the dash showing the gain and percentage. It stays on as long as I have my foot on the brake then goes away and my normal instrument display arrangement comes back, until I step on the brake again. I have redone the procedure several times with no luck and I cannot seem to find anything in settings to stop it. Does anyone have any info? Am I just not seeing something obvious in the settings to turn off the trailer brake when no trailer is connected? Any help would be really appreciated. I have a 2016 RAM Bighorn.

Does anybody know if you need to reprogram the trailer brake brain box if you replace it? Mines having issues and i think its the problem but i dont want to replace it then have to take it to a dealer to have it programmed and i dont have this alfa obd system

i recently started gettong the service trailer brake systwm message on my dash, i re enabled it on alfa obd, but it still shows up, is there anything i can do within the app to fix this?

You need to pull the codes and see why the service trailer brake message is popping up, you can't know anything without the codes. You can pull the codes with AlfaOBD.
