It's funny I was having this same exact issue with my 2016 Civic. I was going back and forth with Honda to have them pay for the repairs, but they wanted me to pay for half. I decided to go get an attorney instead and file for lemon law. It's amazing how fast they started to review my case for a buy back once an attorney got involve.

I just traded mine in and got a Toyota Corolla. Luckily used car market is insane rn and I bought the civic for under market value. So I was able to get a pretty penny for it. Now I have a Corolla with freezing cold AC. I still would buy another ho da tho (dream car is a Civic type R) but Honda better get their shit together

My extended warranty covers it but it is still quite disappointing that a new car has such problem within 2 years and the AC was only used few times over 2 summers. I bought the Civic because I always trusted Honda s quality. I got to rethink this now.

I bought my 2016 Honda Civic Coupe Touring second hand from a used car dealership. Bought it at the end of September around fall when the weather was pretty chilly getting ready for winter, so I didn't think of checking the A/C. But as soon as May came around bringing its first hot week of the year I realized the A/C was blowing hot hair, with tinted windows and leather interior my car felt like a death box. The used lot dealer blew me off so I went online realizing that this was a normal problem for all 10th gen civic owners but this video brought up the 10 year warranty and got my attention. I'm from Canada and I'm pretty sure this video was uploaded in the states, but I still took a chance and called my local Honda dealer told them the problem and gave them my VIN number and just like that they said my car was covered by the 10 year warranty BUT. The Civic's A/C stops working for two reasons (they explained to me) and they were the condenser or the compressor or even both. Now the 10 year warranty only covers the condenser and not the compressor, they also told me that in order to find out which one they needed to work on I would have to take my car in for a diagnostic test which would cost me $150. But if the test came back stating that it was only the condenser I would get my $150 back and the condenser service for free, if it was only the compressor I would lose the $150 and would have to decide if I wanted to go through with them servicing my compressor for parts and labor costing me a total of $1400. If the test came back that both the compressor and condenser were faulty, I still would of lost my $150 and they would service the condenser for free but only if I paid the $1400 to have my compressor serviced as well. Man, lets just say this decision felt like I was gambling at a casino. But I said to myself "the heck with it!", handed them $150 and went all in! Luckily for me it was only the condenser and the compressor was just fine, I got my $150 back my car serviced for free and I'm now driving in the hot summer inside a civic that's cold like an ice cube.

My 2017 Civic LE also failed on May 15, 2022. No chill air. I took it to the dealer and same song and dance as Bobby Digital above. Cost me $700 ( in NJ). This was my 6th Honda and I swore it is the worst Honda I've owned. Sadly, Toyota, Hyundai and Honda have zero new car inventory. So I made a deposit on a 2022 Toyota Corolla and now must wait 3 to 6 months for delivery. I fully expect to the dealer will renege on the trade in value of the 2017 Civic and probably on the price of the new Corolla in spite of the invoice they gave me with my $1000 deposit.

Update 10/30/2020: I will upload a video update on my Civic soon, but long story short, the freon leaked out again completely. My AC system is shot and dealer quoted me $2500 to fix and a private shop around $1000-$1200. The problem with this generation is the design and location of the condenser itself. No matter how many times you fix it, if it's a poor design, it could fail again. I sold my Civic after owning it for only 2 years while mileage was still low. I picked up a 2016 Toyota Prius C as my daily driver. Check my other videos for the review on it. I can definitely say that Honda quality has gone down over the years. Hopefully this helps people out there watching this video!

A local Honda dealer did a free A/C check up and said it was a leak. So in order to diagnose it further to pinpoint the leak, they charged $152 ($129 labor, $20 Freon) to do an Evac and Dye. 4 hour appointment and no leak in the engine area. They are guessing the leak is in the dash/touch screen. It’ll be $129 labor per hour for a 9 hour job!!! It’ll probably cost $1,300. I’m thinking of getting a lawyer or joining the class action lawsuit.

I just had my Civic AC condenser replaced at the dealership. At 16,000 miles my air conditioner was no longer blowing cool air. They replaced the condenser although I do not believe it is working as well as it did before it broke. I’ve learned that Honda has offered a 10 year warranty from date of purchase on the AC condensers. This 10 year warranty at no charge it’s due to defective condensers in the 2016 2017 2018 civics. Apparently the wall tubes Are defective. The tubes get little tiny holes which the coolant leaks from. My car was still under the original 3yr warranty however, it’s good to know for those who have had their warranties expire. You get 10 years from original date of purchase. I personally am disappointed in Honda for not doing a recall.

Just by this video and others having close to 100k views more or less says there should be a nationwide recall on all the major A/C components….compressors, condensers, ect. HI! I also have a 2018 Honda civic. This model is the EX-L Hatch. Around 20K miles same problem happened. Warm air blowing. After diagnosis with dye, it was the evaporator component that was defective / leaking. This part is located behind the dashboard. I had this part changed out twice in two years because it leaked. Now, the condenser is leaking as in your video and the car is out of warranty. Paid to have the condenser replaced which was a bit pricey. After researching it turns out this may qualify under the lemon law. Going to check that out. Good luck with your vehicle, and besides this issue, the car has been running well. I did notice several areas of my hatch with panels that were not flush after time, in my case it was the rear bumper.

I have a 2017 Civic Sedan Touring. It's a great car EXCEPT for the A/C. At 54K miles the both the condenser (factory covered by the TSB) and the compressor ($1500 "goodwill" price from the dealer) were replaced. After that the A/C was better than new. Now, less than 2 years later, at 85K miles, it's clearly failing again. There is a new letter going out from Honda corporate to cover more parts to 10y/100K miles, but I haven't taken the car in yet as it's just become obvious that it's failing again. I'd like to get reimbursed for the first repair before taking it back again. I can answer the question, "would you buy this car again knowing what you know?" No, never. In fact this is my first and last Honda. My Audi and my SAABs were way more reliable. My wife has a 2011 Ford Escape that's 12 years old and it's a rolling refrigerator. Honda's reliability is from a by-gone era.

I am an Auto Tech student with EPA certification on A/C systems and have owned 1987 Integra, 1997 Accord and 2017 Civic so I have some experience with Honda. My 1997 I bought new and the heater inside the cabin leaked (pinhole) glycol into the car. I could smell and taste it when running the defroster. Went back and forth with dealer under warranty and finally they removed the dash and found a hole in the weld on the heater core. Treated me like it was just my imagination but I stuck to my guns and they were sheepish when they located the bad part. Replaced for free - but I learned Honda is only as good as their suppliers and the heater core welding was poor. It was cracked along the weld. Fast forward to 2017 Civic, the A/C stopped working this week and from what I read it is likely a full loss of refrigerant to a leak. The fuse for A/C is good and the compressor clicks on and off when I pop fuse in and out, but hot air into cabin on both sides. I suspect the condenser has pinholes and will have to go through the process with Honda again, but they do now have an extended warranty for the condenser as the supplier provided consensers of low quality (20 years later and still Honda not double checking supplier quality). This is still conjecture on my part so I will see how it goes. A/C systems do not leak out in only a few years, so likely the condenser is the weak link. I am not going to recharge until the condenser is taken out and pressure tested. And no, I dont think a rock strike damaged it. I think once it is out Honda will find a cracked bad weld just like before....

always make sure you keep the temp around 10 degrees than what it is outside. also make sure you turn off your AC and let the car run atleast 2 minutes before you shut it off so the lines and the compressor can decompress. if you shut the engine off while the AC is running the lines and the compressor stay compressed until you turn it back on.

My 2018 Honda Civic EX-T just recently started having this issue: driver side blows warm air, passenger slightly cooler but not cold as it should. I'm dreading having to deal with the dealer about it. And if it's a faulty condenser, assuming I'm covered by the 10 yr warranty, being told it's on "back order" doesn't inspire much confidence. I had a Toyota Sienna with a recall for the dashboard (it was cracking) and Toyota was also "back ordered." Toyota never had the part and after inquiring about it every few months to years, they never received the part (I eventually sold the Sienna). I'm afraid the same scenario will play out with Honda, waiting years for some "back order" part(s). They drag their feet when it comes to fixing a problem they created.

An update to this. I took my car in and it took almost a full day they said they didn't think it was the condenser I told them just to find it and let me know what it is. At the end of the day they said it was the condenser there was a very small hole in it. They replaced it under warranty. If you're having this problem and they can't find it, it's 100% the condenser don't let them get away with not fixing it.

AC system is sealed, it does not get *used up* from constant use, nor does it leak out if not used and sitting unless the shrader valves fail. 1234yf refrigerant is expensive, $20/oz. - figure around $700 to recharge your Honda at a shop. It ignites at 405F (the front catalytic converter on your 1.5l civic makes 600F+ all day long) the AC condenser is right in front of that. When 1234yf burns it coverts into HF which will kill you if inhaled and melt you if it gets hit by water.

Mine is 2017. I leased it for 5 years. I did all the basic maintenance by myself. Before my lease ended, the dealership kept bugging me and offering me to get a new car. But i declined. When my lease ended, I decided to buy back this car. So when I brought the car to the dealership, in their rules I have to let them do a safety check before they hand me this car back to me. I never had any issues with my car. But they told me I needed to replace my break pads and the caliper. I declined. They said either they fix it or I have to let a mechanic do the safety before they officially sell my car back to me. So on same day I went to a mechanic who fix my mom's car, in 15 minutes he was done. He said there's nothing wrong with my caliper and break pads. So he gave me the certificate of safety. The next day I came back to the dealership. They took my car again inside their garage. Which I am not allowed to peak in the windows to see what they are doing to my car. They acknowledge the safety certificate I provided. And they said they change the oil of my car. They gave me my car back. I checked my oil before going home, and the oil still was not changed. I knew it. I decided not to fight them because I know I will not win. So I went home and change my oil myself. Because who knew what else they put there. Then 2 months later, my A/C stopped working. And I brought it to a mechanic and they told me that the a/c is leaking. They told me about that extended Honda warranty. But as of now, I haven't done anything. I lost my trust in stealerships, and I decided to keep the car without a/c. They definitely did something to it.

Bought a new Honda Accord EX back in 1993. Never had anything go wrong with it. Didn't even have to replace the brakes. Did have to replace the power radio antenna though. Sold it in 2018 with 125,000 miles on it. Replaced it with a new 2018 Civic. Not looking forward to taking in to the dealer tomorrow to get the AC checked out. Blowing cool air on the passenger side, warm air on the drivers side. Has a chirping sound when you first turn it on, lasts about 10 seconds, then goes away. Thought the Civic would last a lot longer before I had to take it in for repairs.

I just replaced the condenser on my 2015 Honda Civic for a similar problem, so it is not only the 10th generation Civic, but also 9th generation Civics as well. This is the second time in 2 years that I've taken my Civic in for blowing cool (not cold) air. This first happened after the warranty expired in 2019. Almost all the refrigerant had leaked out since 2019. I asked that the dealer pressure test my system, and sure enough, there are refrigerant leaks in EVERY MAJOR COMPONENT IN THE AC SYSTEM. They are recommending to replace the COMPRESSOR AND EVAPORATOR IN ADDITION TO THE CONDENSER that was replaced. There are leaks in the entire system. The total cost to repair everything will run over $3000. More disturbing is the evaporator and condenser are warranted for only 1 year/12000 miles. It took about 2 years for all my refrigerant to leak out, so the warranty is essentially useless. I plan to sell my Civic as I've never experienced failures such as this to a important car system. I've also written to Honda of America to voice my displeasure with this car.

@@Echizen32kMedia There was apparently a class-action lawsuit involving 9th and 10th generation Honda Civic AC systems that was dismissed just a few months ago. I wish I would have learned about it as I would have joined as well to at least get it on record what happened to me in 2019, because I'm pretty sure the system was leaking then as well. What disappoints me most is the dealer and Honda's attitude about the significance of these failures and their response to it. The dealer avoided responded to my queries about other Civics experiencing AC failures and he also was unaware of "Google" issues with the AC system. I've spoken to Honda previously on the AC and a few other issues I've had with this car in 2019, and they basically told me to take a hike, you're out of warranty. I really believe it is a design issue with the AC system and it appears to not be designed for the pressures of normal operation. I mean, these are components that should be bullet-proof. I've got a 23-year old Toyota where the AC is still ice cold. As I mentioned, I plan to sell this car in the next few months. Thanks for your video as it provided a forum for others to respond.

As an update, I repaired and sold my 2015 Honda Civic for this reason, and I did email Honda and they sent back a email with links and general FAQs. (Thanks Honda) I know someone with a 2016 10th generation Civic who also experienced refrigerant loss due to a defective valve. I was told that it was fixed by Honda at no charge with an extended 10-year warranty, but I am not sure if Honda will warranty condenser or compressor leaks (the more expensive repairs). So if you have a 2016 or later Honda Civic with AC issues I would definitely look into that.

The A/C of my 2015 DX civic dies, last week. Without the A/C, the car is not drivable in the rain and in Canadian winter because the build up window fog will prevent you from seeing outside. I took it to a local Honda Dealer. They charged me Cad $140 plus tax to do a diagnostic check. They couldn't discovered anything mechanical component is responsible. The compressor clutch and the refrigerant is good. It has to be an electrical/computer problem. They advised that I have to take the car in again for further trouble shooting. They anticipated the charge will be 3 hrs. labor, i.e. anywhere from Cad $140 to $420 plus tax. Worked haven't started and I will be charged almost Cad $500. I can guarantee you my next car will not be a Honda ! They screwed themselves badly by cutting corners during the manufacturing process. Corporate greed is now in play and is killing Japanese car sales in North America.

This happened to my Fiances 10th gen sedan. The A/C worked for maybe a week then started blowing warm air. She took it to the dealer. No leaks but her A/C system was completely empty. They came to the conclusion that it was never filled FROM FACTORY! so they "recharged" the system for free and her A/C blows ice cold almost instantly. My FK7 on the other hand blows weak and talked about 20 to 30min to start blowing really cold..... Doesn't matter if Econ mode is on or off. there seems to be a trend of this on the forums for FK7/FK8's. I literally just got a letter in the mail from Honda Corp stating my car now has a 10 year warranty on the A/C condenser. But the catch is, if they see any damage on the condenser, they will not cover it. I've had A/C issues since I purchased the car brand new. The AC just went out on our 2017 Civic. Honda has extended the warranty to ten years on the AC condenser. This is because they are defective and corrode and leak. The rub is that if you are out of your car's 36K / 3-year warranty they will charge you to diagnose the problem. If it's the condenser they will fix it for free. If it's the compressor or any other problem they will charge you a small fortune to fix it. I've seen people say anywhere from 1500. to 2500. I'm going to dye-test it myself to find the leak and if it's the condenser I'll take it to Honda and if it's anything else, I'll fix it myself. People are wrong when they say the R1234yf higher pressure is the reason they fail. Every car from 2016 and up uses R1234yf. The pressure is only slightly higher than an R134a system. The fault is the poor design of the condenser and compressor. Hondas are great cars, but they have had many cars with chronic AC problems such as the gen II CRV and a few others.

I fixed the condenser under the warranty and it's still blowing hot air. It was fine for about two years. I just re-charged mine with honeywell 1234yf but feels like it's still not full after topping of one full can. The needle is in the green zone but on the low side.

I have a 2018 here that I leased and recently outright purchased. Its June of 2022 now. My compressor / condenser and clutch had issues when going to honda dealership for AC issues. (No cold air would blow at all) Car only has 43,000 miles. I am really upset - they said it would be $2,100 to fix everything labor included even with 10 year extended warranty honda said they would replace for free if it had leaks. Not to say the least but they managed to "Good Will" price me down to only

He made me wait more than 4 hours and told me there are no leaks and that give it a week and if the same problem happend again he tell me to go to the dealer and will have to inspcect the condencer now on july 14th my air conditioner is not cooling. Do not buy new Honda cars. The 10 year warranty extension on the condenser/tubing is only applicable if you pay for the labor to diagnose the issue, in our case the diagnostic fee did not cover a resolution or extended warranty, the repair order and service advisor stated that "vehicle diagnosis approved, vehicle hvac system was found to have no or low refrigerant in system, cause is unknown and customer denies repairs quoted". They wanted us to pay $600 out of pocket to recharge the a/c, add dye to the system, and come back in 6-12 months to check for dye leakage. Then once the dye was verified further repairs likely wouldn't be covered by warranty unless it was verified the condenser was the primary cause of failure. Reached out to corporate and we were instructed to take it back to service. The whole exterior of the car is cobbled together with low quality polymer, doesn't live up to the notorious longevity of the past. Our civic and our friend's cr-v has had problem after problem, 2019 and 2021.

There are SO many people having AC issues on these models. Me included. Honda Dealer replaced my condenser in October 2021. Guess what? Went out again recently. I can tell you what: you wish it’s the condenser and honda will have you believe that’s the end of it. Took it to my trusty mechanic for a second opinion and the dye from October is leaking out of the compressor. So guess what? Compressor damage is next. How much money is being wasted by consumers paying for Honda’s AC that full fails at different point of the system? With only 1/3 of the system addressed under warranty. I spoke to a guy who traded in his 2017 civic for $12,000 because of AC problems. He got the new 11th gen civic. BET that dealer will fix the crappy AC, sell it for around $20,000. AND it’ll break on the new buyer.

@@Echizen32kMedia, Honda finally said mine is under the warranty, they"fixed" it 4/2022, last year. Fast forward to 8/2023 it went out again. I took it back to the dealership that i bought the car from, they charged me 282.33 for diagnostic labor. They would NOT even look at the warranty letter i recieved from Honda. They said it definatly has a leak but wanted to charge 2500.00 to fully complete the diagnosis and repain. They suspect it is the evaporator which is behind the glove box, that is leaking due to finding low refrigerant or freon. They charged it with freon, but it will just leak back out! I Would NEVER BUY ANOTHER HONDA AGAIN! WE all should file a lemon law against them!!!

@Echizen32k Media, was told to pay CAD $190 plus tax for A/C inspection and leave the car for the day. At the end of the day the dealer told me to pickup the car. The AC condenser is broken, so it is a warranty case. The dealer waived the $190 inspection fee yet have to wait for the replacement, heavily backordered here in Canada. Could be months. They’ll fix it free of charge once the new condenser becomes available.

@@kakeru123 , car fixed in Whitby Oshawa Honda after waiting for the backordered parts for several weeks. The good news, the AC works again and did not need to pay a single penny. I have very same problem with my 2017 civic EX-T in Canada. A year and half ago I took it to one dealer where they changed the condenser under warranty. A year went on and I am having the same problem all over again. Really disappointed. The repair cost begin at 1800 plus taxes and could easily go even higher. The new dealer now says it's evaporator leak, and I am not sure if spending this sum is reasonable on a 2017 model that has 120k KM and 5 years on the roads.
