This week in the Garage, our 2016 Chevy Cruze is back for more preventative maintenance. At just over 3 years old and a tick over 10,000 miles, it's time to tackle the monumental task of changing the Cabin Filter.
GM really shit the bed on this one!! This task, while not completely terrible, is not for the faint of heart. You will need to disassemble a few things on the passenger side of the dashboard & console just to reach the filter housing. Be patient and take your time, and you should be able to tackle it in under 20 minutes. Follow along as I masterfully, almost surgically, disassemble the dash and gain access to the cabin filter. Just note that I initially removed a couple of screws that did not need to be removed. The 2 that I was looking for were on the left side of the glove box.

Everyone - put the bottom screw in first during reassembly.

Yeah, the one underneath. I tightened the other four and the GB didn't line up right. Hell of a time with the screw underneath. Took out the 4 side screws and it was easier to get the bottom screw in.

This is easier than it looks. I am terrible at fixing things but I was able to do it with ease. I might even say it was EASY. Total time no more than 15 minutes. You can do it!

Thanks for the video, my wifes car is a 2017 Chevy Cruze LS, I did mine in about 10 min. but was nasty as I think was the original from the factory with 55,000 miles. It took me longer to vacumn out the area than to do the removal and install.

Absolute star buddy! I have the right hand drive version of this car which in Australia is known as the Holden Astra. Few slight differences to remove the glove box (no screw at the bottom - has 3 plastic fasteners and there's a hidden screw behind a panel within the glove box) as this car was only sold in Australia for 2 years there's not much reference on it but saved me $100 with your vid man. Very happy!

I always use a Sharpie Fine-Point Pen to document the date and mileage on the side of these filters. This way I know how old the filter is at time of replacement.

Tbh I'm not sure you have to remove the center trim. Next time I do this, I'll only pull the side trim off the right to access the right screws, open the glove box to remove the 2 screws on the interior left, the bottom screw under the box, and use a flathead to remove the push clip to the right of the bottom screw. It took me 20 minutes, but I'm anticipating next time taking around 10 minutes now that I know where everything is. Anybody can do this, so give it a shot

How many miles were on that car? The owner's manual says it doesn't need to be changed until about 36,000 miles, but I've heard some people say you should replace them every 15-30000 miles. My car is a 2019 and I haven't looked at the filter and never replaced it before.
@CertifiedShadetree
@CertifiedShadetree Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't go by mileage with a cabin filter. If you daily drive the car, you SHOULD change it once a year regardless of mileage.

@@CertifiedShadetree I think it's just from having the passenger door open to long, mine started working again after closing the passenger door for a while. I believe it's because of the soft ware chevy has programed into the vehicle to keep from draining the battery completely down.

@CertifiedShadetree 3 жыл бұрын
Turns out you are 100% correct. I went and checked the Cruze and the glovebox light lit up when I opened it. I did have the door open the entire time I was recording, so the battery rundown protection had to have activated at some point.
