Great Explanation. The Chain is a lot better that the stupid rubber belt. Can you make a video showing the entire process with engine in vehicle for the DIYs looking to change chain and chain tension. Tension fails when driving and the engine is blown, so the chain is great but the tension is the failing point, and the dealership is happy. Thanks. C

If I come across another one that needs the head or timing chain replaced I will.

For water pump replacement is it recommended changing the timing chain and timing tensioner?

Im having an issue with my 2016 Civic LX. I replaced the transmission and i had to rotate the crankshaft to remove the flywheel bolts. Now I'm having issues after I replaced the transmission. The engine shakes and sometimes shut off. I'm thinking its not on timing. i removed the valve cover to put it back on timing but those gold links with the 2 and 3 does not line up. I'm assuming i had to keep rotating until they do?
@mysterygarageCA Жыл бұрын
They only line up when you install them after, you turn it for couple of time it will tal unknown amounts of rotation to line them up again

So the Timing marks will line up again after the engine rotates several times?@@mysterygarageCA

I also have a 2016 honda civic lx. Do i eventually have to replace the timing chain at some point. it almost has 82k miles on it. is the timing chain on the left side of the engine? it looks like a belt but i dont know if it something else. It was actually the serpentine or drive belt do I have to eventually replace it?

You do at some point but that’s only a recommendation, in the real world, no body ever does it. To answer your question, I don’t think you have to anytime soon unless it gives you problems.

Hello, my Honda civic 2017 is rattling when i start it for about 20 seconds and then stops. It also turns on my check engine light, break system , steering wheel. I have gone to get diagnostics from other places just to avoid having to go to the Honda dealership and pay $250 for a diagnostic and they don’t know what’s going on.

Go to autozone and have them connect the scanner to get codes, it’s free. Let me know what the codes are and I’ll try to help you

Had my gasket replaced a year ago, my car still runs but it doesnt feel smooth like before and hasnt been feeling 100%. I wonder if they put the timing chain back properly. My biggest issue is that everytime i press the gas, for a millisecond the rpm goes up a few hundred and back down before actually going up normally, wether i press the gas all the way (WOT) or barely at all, it will always jump and go back down. You can really notice it in sport mode, if i go wot, theres a brief period where the car wont go anywhere until the rpm goes back down, and it will always do it. Its so quick that others may not notice it. And if you have it in sport and keep tapping the accelerator, the car will feel like if its trying to accelerate hard and it feels like if you're in an n/a car trying to make the car jerk and push you in your seat
@Babyjokers2.0t Жыл бұрын
And it's not turbo lag, because the car does it even when I accelerate slowly, when going slow, you will see it jump up 100rpms and back down quick, even with the gas barely pressed. It will always do it anytime I touch the accelerator (gas pedal) Also it's been a year, and now, whenever I'm mildly accelerating, at around 3k rpms it sounds like vtec is being activated because the car sounds very aggressive around the motor. But if I go WOT, it doesn't make that loud noise, it's almost like the camshaft is messing up

Could be the timing chain or maybe a sensor
