So let's say I reset it a few days after the oil change. Shouldn't it be at ninety something. How does the system know what percent the oil life is at? Perhaps by mileage?

I am not sure how it knows, what I have read is that it is an algorithm that uses time, mileage and driving habits to calculate. When you reset it, it goes to 100%, even if you didn't really even change the oil.

no. after you change your oil then you reset it right away and it will be at 100 percent. if you change it later you can only put it at 100 percent so it will not know if you are at 90 or what percent but it will be able to reshow you that the oil needs rechanging. so next time just change it at the right time. best I can figure.

My manual says at 15%, But I assume each vehicle may have a different %, safest thing to do is check the manual for your vehicle.

23,000 miles on a 2016 is a lot.. I just bought a 2014 with 23,000 miles on it. Now it has 27,000 on it and I haven't seen a oil light indicator yet..

That's the tripometer at 2,999 miles! My car is 14 months old and have about 15,000 miles and my oil change indicator just came on for the second time, so I guess the average is about 7,000 the way I drive. You should be able the push the toggle button by odometer until your oil life percentage comes up, "wrench" light comes on at 15%.

Oh ok I thought I was seeing things LOL. When i purshased the car I was told the oil had been changed and the indicator light would come on when it was time for a oil change. I normally don't go over 4,000 miles between oil changes, what should I look for?

It will ding and the little light shaped like a wrench will come on. (at 17 seconds into video you will see it) If you toggle the switch it will go out, but each time you restart the car it comes back on. As I said you can toggle through and see what percentage your oil life is at any time. You could change it earlier, but I think anything more than 20% life would be a waste.
