After changing the oil in my son's 2013 Accord [2.4L four-cylinder engine], I realized two things. First, his car does not have the thin aluminum skid plate that later models have. Second, although the listed oil capacity is 4.4 quarts, it had FIVE QUARTS in the crankcase when I drained it and it took FIVE QUARTS of new oil to reach the "full" mark on the dipstick.

It depends on the level of the car and oil temp. If it's on ramps, more oil will drain. My accord always take 5 quarts.

The trick is to hold pressure on the drain plug until it screws out completely, then you quickly move the bolt to let the oil drain. Watch the video again, you'll get the idea.

lol, that's funny! i created an oil pond one time..i had a 69 camaro and an old corvette and kept filters for both on the shelf. The rubber O rings were slightly different sizes...different enough that i grabbed the wrong filter for an oil change on the corvette, changed it, started it then looked under to see if it was leaking...and immediately saw that i had dumped 5 quarts of oil out onto my driveway. Just so happens that particular oil change had a quart of slick 50 in it too, so that was about 50 dollars worth of oil on my driveway...an oil pond.

No it doesn't work like that. The car tells you the oil *life*, NOT level. Change the oil when the cars tells you.
@chuckschillingvideos
@chuckschillingvideos 5 жыл бұрын
You seem to have a fundamental misunderstanding of what the oil life function is/does. It does not deal with oil level, nor does it have any sort of sensor which allows it to actually assess the remaining useful life of the oil in your crankcase. It's nothing more nor less than a rev counter. Once you reset it, it counts the number of revs your engine has run against some predetermined value to come up with a % of oil life remaining. It has no way of knowing or adjusting this percentage for driving conditions, your style of driving, etc. It's strictly mechanical.

From Honda. Shop online because prices can vary significantly for new factory parts from state to state dealerships. Or go to to a foreign cars salvage yard. I do not believe that to be necessary and never fill the filter, especially when they are mounted sideways (as with many Nissans). One or two seconds of a "dry" filter will not do any harm, especially with a warm engine. You should ALWAYS dab some oil on the new filter's rubber gasket, however......and be sure the old filter's gasket comes off when you remove it and is NOT stuck on the engine. [That happened to me once & I would not wish it on anyone.]

It depends on how you drive and weather condition as well. I get about 5000 miles before oil life drops to 15%. I drive on local streets Monday thru Friday (a total of 10 mile a day to commute to/from work) + occasional freeway driving on the weekends. My co-workers who live 40+ miles from workplace and have to drive 100 miles a day on the freeways can get close to 10,000 miles before the car tells them to change oil. I'd say anywhere between 5000 to 10,000 should be normal interval unless your driving condition is much worse.

He credited it all to changing the oil every 1,500 miles, filter once every 3,000. miles. Never gave the oil a chance to get DIRTY, let alone lose viscosity. Why Honda put an engine cover on the bottom? That cover makes the engine compartment hotter because heat can’t dissipate and this means is plastic parts installed in and around the engine will dry up and become brittle much sooner.. My 2004 accord has no such non sense.

For aerodynamic reasons. It doesn't hold heat.

Ryan Littleton with the engine hood that heat gonna stay put. If the engine bay is open on the bottom with the car zipping down the highway the heat gonna escape from the bottom.

@@jogmas12 I'm telling you it's fine. And besides it's not completely covered, not that it would cause a problem anyway. You don't really know a whole lot about cars do you?
