Audi's third-generation TT gets it right, making diesels clean and does anything scare teens behind the wheel?

Thanks for clearing this up for us. Recently I was talking about the VW scandal with my sister, who has driven a series of Ford diesel trucks for going on twenty years. She was mildly worried about this problem (not that she would ever stop driving them, but she _was_ worried that they might become suddenly more expensive). I assured her that diesel engines with the urea exhaust scrubbing technology would not be affected, because they've already made the legitimate fix to the problem. The question is how have all the cars with diesels made themselves appear to have passed emissions requirements. In the U.S. that's only VW Group's cars, and one Chevy car, the Cruze. Everyone else has the urea treatment system. I'm guessing we're about to see a mea culpa from Chevrolet.

in relation to the question at 16:00 Short-n-simple answer: No Long-n-detailed answer: Your car's A/C cycles once your set temp is out of line (ie; when the cabin becomes 80f instead of your setting of 75f). Much like a house unit; you set the temp and the system will power on to start exchanging heat. Something to be known, your system is constantly under pressure and there is typically only a variance of 10-20psi increases on the low side and your superheat typically may jump from, say, 160psi to 210 psi. This is normal and how it gets there doesn't matter so long as your system is healthy and maintained (properly charged). That said, your thermostatic sensor (among other safety sensors in place too) will make the system cycle on and off as needed; this not only protects your system from a slew of problems but also to only cool as necessary, making it as efficient as possible and less of an energy siphon. It does this regardless of RPMs as the hardware are just dumb animals... that happen to be strong enough to endure radical pressures! Same logic of functionality in a car (or anything A/C, really), just much smaller components. Source(s): DIYer that does a lot of research where possible. /!\ DISCLAIMER /!\ I realize info and analogy above could be very incorrect, if it is, let me know! The info stated above is what I've discovered over the past 4 months of constant R&D just before converting my daily driver from HFC-12a to HFC-152a with blizzard-like successful results.

On the AC Rupture email, most modern cars have electric-driven AC, which improves fuel efficiency drastically, makes for easier maintenance, and allows Auto Start/Stop functions to be performed without having to shut off the AC whilst at a light. Turning the AC on in a modern car, is just turning on an electric motor.

One of the best car for novice driver is Yugo. As it was made in my country, we have a lot of them and they are super cheap. In order to drive it, you need both hands in order to turn the wheel , and also you need to manually turn on choke on red light so engines does not die. Nice thing is that choke is use by left hand and gearbox with right, so you have no spare hand to handle phone. Car is pathetically slow, so you can not drive fast and you must keep distance from car in front, not because brakes are terrible, but because if you brake too hard headlights would come off. You learn how to respect a car and how to use it. There is a saying here - who learns how to drive a Yugo, they can fly airplane after.

In my opinion the virtual display on the TT is not that great. To me, it looks way too fussy to be usable. What's more, in a sports car the two most important dials: tach and speedo, and buried in small corners of the screen and is dominated with that giant nav screen. I think it would have worked if they had the tach and speedo on an eyebrow display (similar to what the Civic used to do) and made that instrument cluster purely the multimedia screen. I think BMW has the best tech in that department, the HUD on BMW's are clear and concise. There is little fuss and you get exactly what you want to see in a bright, clear display.

why is the majority of the vw "dieselgate" only focusing on VW products when that same engine us in Audi's as well? And the better issue to be asking is how is this debacle going to affect those that have bought a diesel VAG car? I can only imagine the resale value I'd all cars affected will be horrible. There are even now reports of VAG gasoline engines having the defeat boxes. I should of never bought my Audi A3.

The Williams Formula 1 team built and tested a CVT transmission back in the early 90's. Back then a F1 engine pumped about about 750hp. But the governing body banned it.
@juancargts8 жыл бұрын
+mx5hong According to who? Did you know the whole story or just grabbed your statement from an uncited source on the internet. Why don't you explain how much torque can a CVT handle before the belt breaks a shatters apart? How reliable is it for performance applications(high rpm and torque)?
@mx5hong8 жыл бұрын
+juancargts According to who? How cute. I've been following Formula 1 since the 80s pal and the Williams team testing a CVT transmission is common knowledge. So to show that I didn't grab it out of thin air: www.f1fanatic.co.uk/2007/05/03/banned-continuously-variable-transmission-cvt/ jalopnik.com/the-ten-most-ingenious-f1-cheats-ever-1465111260 www.f1technical.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1355&start=10 I could go on and on and on... There's even video footage of the test car actually running on youtube, picture of the test car in a museum and so on.
@juancargts8 жыл бұрын
+mx5hong yeah but your claims are mere speculations, if it is so great why isn't it used in other performance aplications outside of FIA? Go out in to the field and research how many cvt they service at Nissan dealerships.
@juancargts8 жыл бұрын
+mx5hong that f1 car never made it out of the testing grounds for a reason, you think the team's public relationship would have allowed them to say, hey we screwed up please don't buy our technology
@mx5hong8 жыл бұрын
+juancargts serious? The Williams never made it out of testing b/c the FIA banned it. Why go on if it's banned. The FIA banned it b/c of cost. If the FIA didn't ban it, it would start a arms race with the other teams. The competing teams will start throwing insane amount of money to develop their own CVT. And since the CVT keeps the engine in its sweet spot in the powerband, lap times will come down. If the FIA didn't banned it more than 20 years ago, I'm sure CVTs would be in much better shape today.

Its that the majority of people have dementia, so they cant remember to fill the DEF. Just like so many people who drive cars have low oil, and they cant remember to change the oil every 4000 or 7000 miles. So many of my friends have low oil and havent changed it in years. My grandpas TSX was never driven and because of that, he forgot to change the oil, and one day, he went back to his house with an engine that was burning oil, and a bunch of white smoke came out of the exhaust and engine and did not know why it was doing that.

An Audi TT Roadster for $52K... Less power and torque than a Ford Mustang EcoBoost Premium Convertible, for only $14K more. Or, if you're willing to forgo the convertible top entirely, get the Audi TT Coupe. Less power and torque than a Ford Focus ST, for only twice the price! Ok, yes, the Audi is probably a nicer place to sit than the Fords are -- but is it TWICE as better-built? Is it worth TWICE the price?! I'm very hard-pressed to see twice the value in there. Both the Focus ST and the Performance-pack Mustang will handle every bit as well as the TT, and both have better power-to-weight ratios. Which car really gives you the most bang-for-your-buck, honestly? I'd rather own one of the Fords than that Audi, and save myself a bunch of money.
@ahastar11418 жыл бұрын
But your talking 2 different vehicles. The mustang is closer to a a4 convertible than a tt. As far as the focus is concerned yes that's a more powerful car however I don't know that they would be cross shopped against each other. I would put the Audi TT in the same category as say a 1 series or 2 series. I think it's tough to compare a practical fwd car with a little torque steer vs an all wheel drive roadster from a luxury company. Tough comparison to make as far as "value" since I don't think the Audi TT is really meant to be a value vehicle
@08maurizi8 жыл бұрын
It's worth every penny to a premium car buyer. Remember the value of something is what one is willing to pay for it. In this case Audi dealers are selling them before they reach the dealers in some cases so YES it's worth twice the price
