One thing he should have mentioned, you can't get the M3 or M4 with a manual transmission anymore... ATS-V gets big props for having a 6 speed as an option.

This car has now peaked my interest on Cadillac as a potential buy in the luxury segment. I know in the past the CTS-V woke up BMW and Mercedes about the M5 and the E series (55/63) AMG models. No doubt the Germans will answer back. As an auto enthusiast and not a *closed-minded* fan-boy of brands, I am happy to see that there is a credible competitor to the staid German offerings. Cadillac still have some work to do however this offering shows they mean business and that's a good start and will be interesting to see what they have in store for 2020. Now let us see a head-2-head AutoGuide.com make it happen and BTW keep up the good work.

Lewis O In a performance car I'll always prefer a manual. Nothing beats a clutch for driver involvement. And I don't find anything cheap about a manual. Manuals are fun. But, I too like when a car has options. It's good to have options so you can get the car that you want. I have to give it to Cadillac. Their newest performance models are awesome.

Siege I don't care much about the speed of shifting. It's more about the pleasure of driving. I love manuals. But as you said, there are situations when they can be difficult. Imagine you're parked on a hill road and another car is parked just 10 inches behind you. You need to start without the car moving backwards a bit. So yeah, I hate those kind of situations too, but when I get on a nice twisty road in a manual, magic happens.

The ATS V's 0-60 is faster, its top end is higher, its quarter mile is faster, it has a better suspension and better braking. The BMW M's do have nicer dual clutch transmissions and nicer interiors though. That is how it brakes down. The BMW is for luxury and the Cadillac is for performance.

Looks like a home run to me! 0-60/3.8! Love it! The best part, affordable maintenance! Across the board home run for GM: Corvette Z06, ATS V, and since the numbers are good for those two cars, the CTS V/630 hp, aka, 4 Door Vette, I have no doubt to place my bet for the Tri-Fecta! MrGovenator1 If you buy a WRX for its gauge cluster, that's just silly. There's nothing luxurious in an Impreza and it does not compare in terms of features and materials with these cars. Not to mention this particular one is also much, much faster in terms of acceleration and top speed, although I would like AWD on it.

Nice review. Cadillac has come a long way. But this class and above is now a days called luxury performance. So Cadillac needs to improve both the cabin (that gauge cluster and Cue), and more back space. These cars are not performance only. I hope these generation Cadillac is overall as fast as BMW and not just 0-60 as the last gen. Looking forward to a H2H.

I don't know if it's because I'm in my 50's. But I've seen a CTSV and just a week ago ATSV. And I said to myself these new Cadillacs look even cooler than when I see them being raced by Johnny O'Connel or Andy Pilgrim. They are not Ferrari pretty but more like "The Car" from the 70's James Brolin movie. Kind of a mean obscene bad boy cool. Is that my imagination?

The BMW M4 only does 155mph... yes that's because it's electronically limited to 155 due to Euro regulations. Take off the limiter and it would be well and truly up around the 190mph mark too I am sure.

Cadillac's performance is there but the exterior styling is still a bit dowdy. The m4 is not necessarily beautiful but it looks modern even after you become used to the shape. The ats looks half a generation behind the times. The v improves the looks, but doesn't fully solve the problem. I know looks are subjective, but sales numbers are not.

bestpilot98 See: www.forbes.com/sites/kbrauer/2014/11/11/2015-cadillac-ats-why-cadillac-cant-sell-great-car/ A lot of writers mention these less than stellar sales issues, and then, like this Forbes guy, say that styling isn't the issue. I'm not convinced. The styling does not age well. The regular models lack the aggression of the V. The V should do better but can't carry sales numbers for the fleet. Even in the V, the interior is a let down. Cadillac needs to change things at dealers, but they also need to come out with more aggressive but sophisticated designs.

Luis Marquez They've been doing just enough to keep their cars modern. I don't really love their design, but I think the none-V series Cadillacs, especially the ATS, look half a generation behind the times. Mainly I think it's all the chrome on the front grill and the fuzzy looking non-HID, non-LED headlights on the lower end model trims. The headlights on the ATS especially look out of place in a luxury car. The CTS headlights are much better and the Escalade is really how it should be done. Again, not really pretty, but modern. In general the the V series styling is much better. There was an article from one of the auto magazines a few weeks back calling for sports styling options on all Cadillacs. I think it's a very good idea considering Cadillac's flagging sales on everything except the Escalade.

I hate when the journalist doesn't give the true facts. Yes it's top speed is 155mph but that's because is governed to 155mph, it will easily go faster than 155mph if you remove the limiter. I do like the CTS-V a lot but $2k cheaper than an M4 is not enough to make it an easy decision on which car to get. I like the M4 styling better but I like the CTS-V power and suspension better. The magnetic suspension is hard to beat when it comes to comfort and changing it to sport.

925boosting Specially when the US government has regulation in place that charges every foreign car manufacturer import fee's that equate to a couple grand per car... Domestic manufacturers already get significant advantages in product launch costs, Labor costs and shipping costs... And they still can't even deliver similar qualities in materials used on their products. If Cadillac has a hard time competing in a market in which they start with an inherent advantage... Someone is lining their pockets with the cash that should of been spent on the car.

This guy cracks me up! 1. He's driving an automatic, but talking about manual transmissions... no third peddle = automatic. 2. Typical American review, more HP = better. So it's faster in a straight line, what about everyplace else? How about a lap time? 3. Top speed the M4 is electronically governed at 155, that is not the cars top speed if you remove the limiter. I'm curious if he had the ATS-V over 155 mph? 4. He says it's $2000 cheaper than an M4 or M3, problem being the M3 is $2200 cheaper than the M4. 5. BMW's all come with a 4 yrs / 50000 mile warranty, and FREE maintenance over that time period. 6. Dealerships, American car dealerships suck compared to the Germans. The experience at a BMW dealer is at another level than any American dealership I've even visited.

PLAY_HRD The ATS-V starts at $61k which is easily $2k cheaper than the cheapest M3 or M4. And it has more standard equipment so you don't have to spec it out to $80k just to get basic options like you do with the M cars. And were you not watching the video? He did drive it on a track, and on some windy roads. Not only that, but Cadillac designed it to beat the M3/M4 specifically. So that's what it will do.

You do realize that even if you pay for the option package on the M4/M3 that removes the limiter you still have a car with a 15mph top speed. Id be happy for the limiter, at least it gives BMW an excuse to be that far behind on top speeds(not to mention straight up acceleration, braking distances, lap times, figure 8 times, avg g's, etc). Just face it, BMW sat around stroking themselves and telling themselves how great they were and in the meantime, everyone passed them up, not just Caddy.

I've always liked the CTS-V but the problem with them now is they have become too expensive not the main reason but one of the the reasons why GM needed a bailout years ago some not all of their cars are just too expensive. If I've heard is right a CTS-V will start at $80,000. Really? You could probably get a charger Hellcat and a base charger for that.

Old_Barbarism why do you think that is? There are some serious trucks, for instance an SRT truck with a viper V10 in it in which is electronically limited to 110 mph. The reasons being is at higher speeds, a different set of physics/ dynamics come in to play. Its ability to be controlled safely is compromised as speeds rise. We all should be able to understand why the truck needs to be limited, however those same rules of physics for everything. therefore those who figure out how to better overcome those challenges are able to push the limits further and achieve better results. Its called Engineering.

Wow, it's beautiful also! Cadillac has got it's shit together. It flat out smokes everything! So for all you haters you have nothing to stand on with this beautiful artwork. It looks like nothing else out there, the BMW's and Mercedes look the same year after year and going the cheap way when you look at the overall design of those euro thangs that need to catch up to Cadillac because they are falling behind in what the people want.

The video editing was driving me crazy, they show a coupe in the intro of the exterior but showed a sedan for the interior. Also, I believe that the German cars are governed at 155 so I don't think it is a true apple/apples comparison. I am impressed by the styling and performance characteristics, but the interior still isn't on par with BMW IMO. GM is going to bet the farm and invest a ton of $ in the Cadillac brand over the next 10 years. They are up against stiff competition and a loyal customer base. I hope they don't drain the rest of GM. Good luck to them.

The only thing that is hideous on this car is the instrument panel and the CUE system. It simply look dated or old. Cadillac, you need to redesign the interior similar to the CT6. CT6 interior is what the Cadillac cars (namely CTS and ATS) interior should look like . XT5 interior is what next Escalade should look like.
