Joseph Deluna eh, I liked it more at the end of the season for sure, but outside of a few moments that I thought were beyond stunning the show just didn't click with me. didn't really enjoy the ballad or the closer at all this season. still a godly hornline just the show wasn't my favorite

@mattdurst71168 жыл бұрын
Somethings are just out of our control. It happens, I'm happy with being Crowns first 3rd place corps ;) and getting the Brazale and Ott back to Carolina! Averaged over the 3 nights we placed 4th in percussion. Definitely the best Crown line we have had in a while and in many instances (though unseen to the public) they beat out some of the top lines like Coats, Vanguard, BD etc. Talk about tough competition!
@mattdurst71168 жыл бұрын
Samuel Moore Yep I marched in 14, and 16 with Crown and 13 with Scouts. I played Soprano for both! It was so much fun battling it out this season with the Coats and the Devils. Great thing was that we all beat eachother at least once during the season to make it interesting.
@mattdurst71168 жыл бұрын
Samuel Moore Certainly!! I loved being apart of both corps!! It was tough I was both happy and sad about that. I had friends from High school and students from the high school I teach at marching BAC and then my Brothers at scouts who had been there when I was a rookie who werent able to make finals for their age out.

If crown had their same marching, same brass and to some degree the same cg, but a scv drumline. Completely unstoppable. I hate the bd marching, play a little, then march, stand here play a little, then march. Crown is like the only corp where they are consistently playing non-stop throughout their shows, every year. Get rid of the drumline completely, and it's still a complete show. Other corps use "brass hits" and use the battery/pit to fill in the voids. They are truly remarkable. Great job Crown!
@jjh24564 жыл бұрын
Carl Von Sirls no they wouldn’t. That percussion would get drowned out by the enormously loud hornline. Their percussion must be big enough to support that and for percussion the trade off is you will be messy.

This is way better in my opinion
@justinjohnson42786 жыл бұрын
@Micah Lall-Trail Not in every single regard but the opener for sure is way better and a lot of people would even say it's the best opener of all time. Stars opener is good but it's still kind of dry and anticlimatic crowns opener goes all out and is just so unapologetically powerful. Maybe it's just because broadcasting quality is better or maybe I'm just really "young" but crowns show sounds way better
@justinjohnson42786 жыл бұрын
@Micah Lall-Trail Oh yeah I'm only like a year younger than you I could write a counter argument to argue crowns opener being better but honestly I don't have the time. I've gotten into older shows more recently partially cause my neighbor marched snare with scv in the late 90s which peaked my interest. Just like I am with regular music I like both new and old for what they have to offer, so yeah that's the tea and I won't stop you from enjoying stars show
@justinjohnson42786 жыл бұрын
@Micah Lall-Trail I agree with some of what you said there especially regarding the mallet percussion and drill (My band did this kind of "crouching" dance work for our drum feature and I'm not a huge fan of it). And the thing you said about leaving you in suspense was true as well as I felt more interested in stars show as apposed to crown which opener left me completely satisfied after listening to it. But the rest of crowns show and stars are completely in different and I would say each opener suits the way the rest of the show went. You kind of mentioned it before but the thing I like about crowns opener was how slow the crescendo was and how extreme the dynamic changes were going from an extreme piano at the beginning to an extreme forte at the end and I would also argue that the transition into the hit was smoother (A high school marching band I watched at state also used this same effect and I know that when they "surprise" you with how loud they can get it absolutely blows your mind." Also crowns brass is no question better, as both the low and high brass fill have immaculate tone quality, balance and are generally have a louder, fuller sound. You could blame this impact on synthesizers but if you listen to any lot video you can hear how powerful the brass is just on its own. Oh and one more thing, like you said how stars key is pitched higher sounding more bright and tense, I can also the lower more minor sounding chords in crowns opener help it sound very "dark and sinister" which also better fits the rest of their show overall
