+FoulMouthedRuffian 1 I have an 899 & it is 26kg heavier than the 1299 due to the 1299 having lighter parts etc . i imagine the 959 will be similar in weight to the 899

Julie Monroe Exactly. For a V-Twin, I expected more low end and mid range power but it felt peaky and slow in the lower RPMs.
@therealbajan522
@therealbajan522 8 жыл бұрын
+archinuk417 toooooorques, I get you, torque is a lovely thing. The 959 has more torque, so it will be nicer and have a more Ducati feel than the 899. no its not a liter bike due to it being a twin it needs more displacement. if you want a 1098 replacement get a 1299, it has torque galore. note get 1299 not the 1199 which is too mental to the point where it is dangerous.
@DarwinAllen
@DarwinAllen 8 жыл бұрын
+Julie Monroe I think the allure to most people (at least me) of the smaller Panigales is the mixed street + track use. I could have bought an 1199 but went for the 899 at the time since I would definitely run out of skill pretty quick on the big one at the track and spent the extra $$ on a DRZ 400 SM to screw around in the shitty weather up here (we get like a 5 month - tops - riding season). That said, I sold my old S1000RR and really miss the power. I think next fall is gonna be 1299 or RSV4 time. Can't really get back into the inline 4s after owning a couple Ducs and a V4 Honda. But yeah, I "stepped down" from previous bikes in power but the thing is actually better than a lot of people give it credit for on the street once you get over the terrible lack of low end torque.

I'm really torn between this and another GSXR-750. I have gone back to the 750 from owning a 1000 as my second bike. I track my bikes a handful of days a year, I've always looked at the Ducati as a beautiful bike. The 750 and 959 do the same things in very different ways. what would you say if you were looking at the two?

i have to disagree about the torque comparison... the 899 has plenty of pull/torque. You really don't have to keep it in the really high RPM's for power. Despite the power band being more like an i4, it's still a twin. The powerband is short. It only revs to what...? 11k? whereas your avg i4 are 15k. Against other bikes in it's class (750, 800, 899) it has the most torque
@AdamWaheed
@AdamWaheed 8 жыл бұрын
+krissrock Typically, V-Twin engine configurations are all about low-end torque and early mid-range. The oversquare Superquadro engines went a different direction focusing on top-end power at the expense of bottom-end.

+Death666wish I wouldn't be surprised if they made something along those lines in the next year or two. They're missing out on a huge - and pretty popular - market segment. A smaller displacement Ducati sports bike around or under the 10k mark would be a pretty hot seller imo. Look how well the Scrambler's doing and that thing really has nothing on a cheaper Honda (etc) counterpart other than a brand name and some nice styling.
@Death666wish
@Death666wish 8 жыл бұрын
Darwin Allen Well I sure hope when they do make it it has nothing to do with the Scrambler, that thing is made in Thailand. Pay a premium price just for the Brand name and looks yet it's NOT made in Italy? Count me out. I hate this globalization business.
@DarwinAllen
@DarwinAllen 8 жыл бұрын
***** you and me both man. My 899 was assembled over in Asia. Even all my Dainese gear is covered in "made in" labels from everywhere other than Italy. Apparently the leather for the gear and parts for the bike were originally made in Italy. Doesn't really help me when the stitches blow out or some wiring eats shit due to crappy quality control. I'd rather pay an extra 1k for the bike and have the thing made AND assembled in Italy. It's pretty annoying.
@Death666wish
@Death666wish 8 жыл бұрын
Darwin Allen Even the 899! It's getting worse by the minute it seems. I believe it's all our fault, had people NOT buy these bikes when the thing first started, they would've thought a million times before doing it again, unfortunately it seems that we are part of a only few that don't like this, when I complain about the Japanese 650's and 300's being made in Thailand, or about gear made in China, most people don't care, and say that it doesn't matter as long as there's quality control, but it does matter doesn't it? Because we're not getting quality gear compared to the premium we pay. From what I've found (and maybe I missed something) the MT07 is made in Japan, and look how good it's doing, not to mention it's cheaper than the competition! But, I feel I'm fighting a lost cause.

In europe it was made to simply made to abide by euro4 regulations. But on America that doesn't have euro 4 it doesn't really bring much to the table that current panigales dont already offer, in my opinion of course.

+ja mal i track my 899 all season and i'm thinking about getting this one since i'm force to use 2nd gear on the tight corners on the 899 which makes me wait a tad too long to get my drive out. This should fix it. Funny you say they shouldn't have this bike for the States. When you said that i always think squids that only ride streets and freeways need a ego booster so they buy liter bikes that they can barely ride effectively. Half the scrubs don't know how to appreciate cornering, braking, and overall learning to ride the bike. Some people think their lack of riding skills will be improve with buying horse power or getting a turbo busa. Crazy riders out there think "they the man" by wacking the throttle on the freeway and call that skill. They have balls i give them that. So explain why you don't see the point of this bike in America?

959 is an improvement on a bike without actually changing the chassis and everything. Euro4 is other side of the world and does not dictate how the whole world should receive certain products. I still don't understand why he thinks this bike is pointless in the states.

Had a 996, have a Multi 1200s. Thought about trading in the Multi for this - but after a test drive, I left thinking what the hell just happened. The 959 Panigale is SLOWER than my 996, it does not want to turn in, it does not want to lean, it has no torque and the ergonomics are just horrid beyond horrid. The Multi will clean it's clock in EVERY respect, and that's saying a lot for a bike that is twice as tall and 100lb heavier. At 15K, this is one horrid little bike. Given that fact that it does not even have a single swing arm, I regret the day I sold my 996 monoposto.
