Congratulations! After HOURS of searching the interwebs, your video is the ONLY ONE that explained this! You're the only one I found that mentioned using a bolt to line up the balancer. All I did was take off the balancer to have room to pull the engine, can chain remained intact. But since nothing is keyed I had to start from scratch. Thanks again!

Was just questioning all of my timing when trying to use this tool, was going nuts thinking I had something off, tool would not fit, exhaust side off according to slot but lobes were correct....then this video...the service manual does not mention taking that off that I can find. Appreciate the video, really helped

Thank you. Doing a tear-down. Eco-Boom coolant in oil. Exhaust gasses in coolant. Good times. Gonna put timing tool in before I rip it apart just so it's already oriented correctly for re-assembly.

Honestly from a technician's perspective this was a great video. This isn't for the DIY ppl.

I don’t know where to begin with this… I’m sure it ran when it was completed but unless you added a anaerobic sealer to that last cap you put on you can bet it is leaking oil. Also… if you carefully read the service manual it calls out the vacuum pump drive and how it is removed. These engines are easy to assemble once you understand their design and don’t try to associate their assembly with old school engines.

Do you have to do all this to remove the front panel to change the timing tensioner?

As a Ford technician, I'll say that I think they knew exactly what they were doing on these motors when they didn't put any keyways on the timing components and it's not because they are being "cheap". Personally I think they were trying to make the job more difficult (even impossible in some cases) for a diy or independent mechanic to perform these basic jobs keeping the money in the dealerships. Doesn't bother me too much since it's job security for me but I certainly understand why it is frustrating for guys like you and would probably piss me off as well if I was in your shoes.

I'm guessing you guys have never done timing chains on Ford's 4.0 V-6 which is old as fuck. And BTW, with those engines you must pull the engine to replace both the front and rear timing chains!!! There's no keyways on any of the timing gears either. It's all friction fit!!!! And just like this you have to have alignment tools to have everything in time just as well. Again, this is nothing new and most all manufactures have gone this way!!!

@davedave2525 Nope, we don't do them We just put another engine in won't get involved
