Hyundai vehicles are getting better - visually, features and the like - every year. They really step up their game. I wouldn't be surprised if they'll be in the top ten car manufacturers and be consistent with it for the years to come.

That interior beats any CRV, Toyota product or Mazda (an ipad on the dash, really?). Bright interior...so much better than the others.

all test models are the top of the line fully loaded. if you just get a limited you could get it for less than 30k. don't need panorama, roof, even though is cool it's doesn't offer any confort. with the limited you LED headlamps, not as bright as xenon, but much better than old school halogen.

The front styling is less busy than other hyundai models and it's a definite improvement. But it does somewhat resemble the new mazda look perhaps a bit to closely.

I'm confused about the headlights. One would think HID would be standard on the top trim with the LED headlights as optional. I recall that's how premium brands do it. But I guess Hyundai thinks the adaptive feature would be the more premium feature.

mx5hong Premium brand LED headlamps are multi chip designs, for super bright output. Tucson only has LED lighting for the low beam because it's a simpler and cheaper design. I'll bet the output isn't much better than standard halogens, just a cooler color temperature. It's a trick to appear more premium. HIDs are far brighter and are only matched by multi chips LED headlights on premium brands.

Sam mosavi The Tucson (based on the Sonata) is like a mini Santa Fe Sport which is like a mini Santa Fe. I think it's just a matter of size and economy. All are very solid choices.

Hyundai should put out a car to compete directly against the Juke. They should call it it the Hyundai Mojo and it will be a head turner in a plethora of colors

Different trims of Tucson has different EPA ratings due to the weight difference between a base model and a fully loaded model. CRV gets 33 mpg on highway, but it just means that its lightest model (obviously, the base model) will get 33 mpg on highway. With that considered, the mpg difference between Tucson and CRV is 2 mpg or less.

+Sangmin Lee Only 2 or less mpg difference? Don't be stupid. Even the highest trim CRV gets 33 mpg on highway for the All-Wheel drive. With front wheel, it's 34 mpg. Tuscon can't touch the CRV in fuel economy. It can, however, beat the CRV in the design department. I have to say it looks a lot nicer than the CRV. I have a 2014 Hyundai Sante Fe 2.0T, and I like its design. I think Hyundai really make nice looking cars now. I also have a 2013 Accord. I will say that the mpg rating on my Sante Fe is overstated, and the rating my Accord is pretty accurate.

Hi Steve, how would you say the new 2016 Tucson compares to the 2016 Mazda CX-5 that you recently reviewed? Seems like this has a better infotainment system, as well as features such as ventilated front seats and heated rear seats that aren't available on the CX-5. But I'm interested in your opinion of how the new Tucson handles and its fuel economy vs. the updated CX-5.

CJ VN CX-5 is a better "driver" in subtle ways but not enough for me to use that as criteria to choose one over the other. The Hyundai just offers more "stuff" with a number of items Mazda doesn't even offer. Both look great.

The Tucscon doesn't have any of those features. The one thing the Tucson does have is a pano-sunroof. But I gotta have my auto-wipers, auto high beams and radar cruise control

+Eleanor Massaro Fair enough. But the infotainment in the Tucson is heads and shoulders above that in the CX-5 and it comes with heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats and hands-free liftgate.

Don't forget the Hyundai Tucson has the rear air vents, it has a power tailgate, you can adjust the rear seats, more powerful, 8 inch bigger touch screen display ect ect. I would buy the new Hyundai Tucson over the new Mazda CX-5 anytime.

My only concern about that hatch proximity sensor is what about when your wasting the car. It's one thing to kick under the bumper to open the hatch but what prevents accidental openings?

+craig doss When the car's unlocked, as it would be while washing, the door doesn't actuate. It's only if the vehicle's locked. You can also shut off the function from the instrumentation cluster, if you prefer. Very easy.

The Kia Sportage SX Turbo from this generation has 240 HP & 260 lb-ft of torque with FWD, & 237 HP with AWD so that one isn’t underpowered

+Kevin Breese I hav2 agree here. Either up the power or the mpg's, if we can't have both? At present, both are at the lower end of the spectrum as well as acceleration times. Maybe model year 2017 for some tweaks ... I hope?

Buck Futter Remember, this is the top trim Limited model. Most Tucson shoppers will look in the Sport and Eco trims, they'll go at $26k for the Eco and near $29k for the Sport trim . I'll agree at that $35k, it prices with another Hyundai crossover -- the Santa Fe Sport as you have just mentioned.
