I just replaced the backup camera on my 2013 Veloster (thanks to this video). I was able to use a very small, flathead screwdriver to jimmy off the connector piece from the bracket that you had to break. Somehow I got it to work, so don't give up!

Glad the video helped. Also thanks for the contribution. I am sure that others that read your comment will benefit from the collaboration.

Here to say a paperclip works as well. And the way its mounted is all hard plastic, so you arent pushing anything down just creating space for the part to slide off. The thinner and flatter the metal the better

I'm having an issue with my backup camera, but I want to verify if the problem is due to the camera itself or with the head unit. After measuring voltages to the camera connector, I have reason to believe the issue is the camera. I remember the camera stopped working after a really rainy day, so I think my car has the same water issue yours had. For me though, the screen on the head unit does not change when I put the car in reverse. Did you have the same problem before this fix, or was yours slightly different (I.e. Just a black screen in reverse)?

as I recall, it started failing intermittently. then just stopped. (my daughters car, so I can't say exactly) when you get it apart you will see how poorly the encasement is designed. water is not your friend. the design not only lets water in, but holds it with no place to go. it will either short the unit directly, or evaporate and create water lines that will short the circuit board. when you get it back together be sure to take care to re-establish a water tight seal anyway you can.
