I have come off a 2012 500 exc and just bought the 2017 wr 450f . Its an angry rever and shines in tight stuff, the stock suspension feels balanced and pops off jumps with ease, i weigh 95 kgs. Its traction is exceptional over the 2012 500 , hills are a easier and corners feel more planted on the rear. Brakes need braided line up front, controls - bar risers needed. KTM rear sprockets fit.

Owned the Kato. Mates have had the Yamahas. Riden both numerous times and here’s my two cents worth. Both excellent bikes but I have to favour the Kato for 2 main important reasons. Number 1 is weight. The Yamaha feels like a heavy pig and the weight difference is very noticeable after 4 or 5 hours of nasty single track. The second reason is the clutch. These Japanese manufacturers have to pull their fingers out of their bums and go with hydraulic clutches. ( I think Honda has this year 2020). All that said both are awesome bikes and reliable as all hell. And for those who think KTM need more servicing it’s a load of rubbish. I’ve owned numerous Katos over more then a ten year span and service them the same as any other bike. Air Filter when it needs it and oil and filter every 25 or so hours. Never had a problem with any engine issues. Riding is supposed to be fun no matter what colour you ride.

Just picked up Rekluse auto clutches for my TWO 2010 WR 450’s, can’t wait for spring here in North Eastern Ontario! Also have a GasGas EC300 on my radar for the fall Corduroy Enduro, Canada’s toughest off road race. Should be easier on the GG than my WR’s, especially at 63 years of age. Cheers!

@@TheKitchenTechnician You’ll love the Gasser. I’ve now got one of them in my stable. The 21 EC300. Slightly more torque and is a little more lively then my sons 21 300EXC. The thing is so light and nimble that it leaves you feeling fairly fresh after hours in the saddle. The linkage rear is also night and day compared to the Kato. You’ll be happy to hear that the clutch is even lighter then the KTM. The thing I noticed is it handles like a POS if you are over the recommended weight for the springs. I’m told this is due to the linkage rear. Anyways enjoy

i have been buying orange since 2000 6 speed gearbox,hydraulic clutch and 9 litre fuel tank and Brembo brakes, i see Yamaha still havent see the light!!! cable clutch 5 speed and a tiny fuel tank!!!real clever Yamaha i will keep buying orange thanks.
