Such a good car for its price. Cheap to buy and the parts are cheap as well. With this really enjoyable the "4x4 life". My father has a car part shop, while I write this, there is a Lada niva front axle on the table and its price is aproximatelly 20 dollars. Full clutch set costs 45 dollars. Tax, VAT, etc included :D Suspension parts like a box of cigarett, disc brake pad set to the front 6 dollar :D SIX! And if you not a bustard idiot driver, the Niva can run around 100-150.000 kms (60-90.000 miles) without any serious problem with mudding days included as well. And after? Drop the car for your mechanic, or fix it yourself everything from 100-200 dollars. Our Niva comes from 1989. We put new piston rings on at this autumn, the ring set was 12 dollars for 4 cylinder, a piston set with 4 pistons coast around 40 dollars. The engine timing by chain, the valve rockers are adjustable by hand, there is NOT double fly mass, computer and lots of else headache maker expensive "things" in the car. So we love it, the Niva made a lot's of beautiful hours for us. Greatings from Hungary

Back when I was in college my mate had a Niva. He gave that thing so much abuse but it just soldiered on. Had a great weekend off-roading in Scotland in it too where it was very impressive. Quite fancy owning one now!

They finally put A/C on the Niva ! Back when they were still being imported into Canada I had a conversation with the importer. He told me how they were pleading with Autovaz to create an A/C kit that dealers could offer as an option for the Niva and the regular Lada cars to make them more interesting for the Canadian market. It only took them 20+ years to finally do it. It's a shame these cars are so poorly made, or they might have survived longer in our market. Of course, in 2017 you cannot sell a car in North America without airbags and ABS brakes.

Nice. Why can't we have a car like this in North America? Is it because people here have become to dumb to drive? Anyone else remember bombing around in an old Rabbit, or Civic? No Bluetooth, no GPS, no "I'm too lazy to turn my head to look behind me, when I back up, give me a camera" I would buy a Niva. The big 3 auto companies in NA have lost sight.

Will Robinson I don't know what you do for a living, but you will probably refuse to do/sell a stripped down version of your goods/services for a $1. Because it will probably not be worth it to you. Same logic with big car companies in US. First of all, the one you see in here is horrendously unreliable. To produce a quality one like this will make it MUCH more expensive. Crash safety, air bags - I know you will say you don't need this, but normal consumers do, plus it's the law. Emission standards are also law. A Jeep is 100 times better, and this Niva will never be 100 cheaper than a Jeep. You are better off with a Jeep, no doubt.

that car was designed primarily for hopping around countryside . simple and cheap so farmers can afford it . i saw a few in Brazil and Argentina - still going strong after 20-30 years. you just put on big mud tires and its good to go everywhere

Syrian here so ,yes they are good but in our countries were it gets hot you will have to get an aftermarket radiator or else it will over heat the source of my information is the massive ammount of ladas in my country and I drove a few ones my self Pretty strong and cheap to repair tho and you can even repair it by your self

Niva is a 1970s non-military all-terrain and so very unique and very useful as well. I owned one - besides fuel consumption (the heavy 4x4 framework takes its toll), there is nothing to complain. Pulls any trailer, always works - 'rugged' is the word for it. Loved it, but some day I needed a van.

Fenyr ma friend, there is _nothing_ of luxury supposed in a car that is meant to be a cheap and reliant way to survive in Siberia. And still as I am not living in this outback, I still want a car without fuzz. It has not to be changed except if there is some new technology. If there comes an E-Niva, it will win the contest. Even a T-model Ford would do really bad nowadays. We are feeling too prowd for almost nothing (who the hell needs an automatic gearbox?). I think Niva is what tears a Landy out of the mud ... and what Niva can't do, UAZ can (the soviet military thing).

The SUV weight is less than 1700 lbs and gets 56mpg . If it gets to the USA that weight will balloon up to 3500 lbs and get 21 mpg with a gas engine . Just like the Honda CRX . The CRX weight was 1700 lbs and with the HF engine it got 56 MPG on the highway . In 2011 Honda made a retro CRZ with a helper 35 hp motor along with the 100 hp gas engine and that car got up to 2700 LBS and got less MPG of 45 MPG . I owned a 1996 Toyota Tacoma that got 30 MPG all day long . I kept that truck for 300,000 miles and still going strong with little to go wrong . So I went to the Toyota dealer to buy a new Toyota Tacoma and the MPG was 21 MPG . I didnt but the truck . That turned me off completely . So we went and bought the 2016 Honda CRZ I knew it's weight was 2700 LBS and got 45 MPG . I did actually got 49 MPG on a long trip . I would love to own a Lada Niva if the US government leave it alone .

darie99 they actually have enough money for new design and innovations. Check it out : Lada Vesta 2018, Lada Granta, Lada Kalina, Lada Priora. The same company. The deal is Niva 4x4 (Urban) is a classic, as well as Lada "Semerka", the Russians call it like that, which means Lada the "seven". I don't get it really why they gave such name to that car. Both of them Lada 4x4 & Lada "Semerka" are classic models of Tolyatti car manufacture. And they're so sexy . Gosh,. I love em.

they have a lot of money and they also make other cars, the reason they haven't updated the design is because of cheap spare parts, you can install most parts from an older lada to a new one and it still works, and because of that, the spare parts are really cheap.

I survived hitting two trees in a 2006 Saturn ion at 110 mph and the air bags did not deploy. Frankly I'd still prefer a car with them lol

dalbert vazquez new VAZ cars are aluminium crap. If car like this gets in car accident, it will be bend like pice of paper . The old one, soviet-time models was made of thick steal plate, there are plenty of them in Eastern Europe, but it's almost impossible to find car in good condition.

I love boxy cars with round alogen headlights. Unfortunately the newest one avaible in my country is the Defender (which went out of production in 2015), and that vehicle is the definition of overpriced.
