It's a ZF system. They make power steering systems for many cars, not just BMWs.

Bring it to the UK.Set up a dealer network with full service back up etc and at the right price it will sell.There is a market out there for a simplier 4x4 without too many electric gizmos.

Plenty of them returned back to Russia shortly after the Soviet Union collapsed and the 2009-2010 UK vehicle scrappage scheme further reduced their number. I believe less than 100 remain in the UK.

The allure to these vehicles, to me, is their simplicity. I used to own a 99 f150 with the 4.2 v6 and 5 speed. I could repair EVERYTHING on that truck because of it's simplicity. Of course part availability would be a problem.

I believe the gearbox is developed from the original fiat 124 based lada, meant for 45-55hp engines. Any more powerful & it damages the gearbox.

The gearbox has been improved in the years but it really looks so bad but I heard that the engine is pretty good uphill or on offroading.
