Legend has it OJ Howard is still scoring TDs on my Tigers... As a Clemson fan, this was such an excruciating joy to watch. Back in the natty for the first time in 34 years, and to be so close yet so far... I might might be bitter if we didnt end up winning a couple over the next 3 seasons - over Bama. But the stretch of matchups between Clemson - Bama from 2015-2018 are some of the best football you can see.

I bleed crimson… literally. But growing up Clemson was always my second favorite team as I used them in the NCAA video games against my dad (big rule not to use Bama as they were overpowered). I even toured the campus at Clemson, loved it, and almost chose it over staying close to home. What an incredible rivalry that isn’t. It’s a shame we haven’t got a 5th iteration.

This was a phenomenal game. The onside kick was a genius call with immaculate execution, but Clemson proved to everyone that they along were the only team that deserved to be playing Alabama that night. I'm a Boise Sate fan, but these two teams were on another level. I hope DeSahun has a good year at Clemson this next season. I really liked what I saw. I'm excited to see him play in the NFL.

Alabama fan here, but Watson and the Tigers were a much better offense than Bama that night. We contributed as a team with the special teams playing a major role in scoring points when the Defense wasn't able to make stops. Overall, one of the best Championship games I've ever seen! 😄

+FragBoy Stewie yup they had the better offense because Watson was almost unstoppable. But I credit Saban and bama because to start the 4th quarter they had like 2 or 3 critical stops including one time when Clemson started on the 50 yard line and had to punt. That was the biggest stop of the game because after that they kick a field, kick an onside kick score a long touchdown, hold Clemson to a field, then return the kick for a touchdown. In that stretch they went from being down 24-21 to being up 38-27 and all that was left was to salt it away. That stop when Clemson had to ball on the 50 was what started their magical run. The plays and coaching moves made during that stretch was masterful.

+deathka3 clemson didn't have better players. Clemson had the BEST player. Big difference. But take away Watson who else made plays for Clemson? But then when you look at Alabama their talent really showed. They finally unleashed their 5 star top NFL prospect tight end, they got a kick return for a touchdown by their backup running back. Their freshman wide receiver makes a HUGE catch to get them in position for the tying field goal. Another freshman breaks up a perfect pass by watson that would have been a sure touchdown. And in crunch time when Alabama's defense needed to get a stop against a clemson team that was on fire, Nick Saban had his BACKUPS in. Yes his back up players, in crunch time, when the national championship was on the line, and they got a stop. No Alabama definitely had the better players. Watson is just that damn good so he almost won it. But Alabama won with talent and masterful in game coaching. Also notice I mentioned all these plays being made to help win the game and didn't even mention Derrick Henry who played his part too. It took all hands on deck to defeat deshaun watson. That kid is sick.

Howard has been wide open all year long. But if he hadn't had been open in this game, Stewart would have been. Or Mullaney. These guys had lots of catches this season, besides Ridley. So, Clemson's priorities were Ridley, then Stewart, then Mullaney -which left Henry open. Cannot cover them all. They're all too good.

+ben dover I agree. You can't make mistakes like that with a team like 'Bama. Those two miscues and the kick return really made it impossible for Clemson to recover. That's at least a 14 point swing in the Tiger's favor if they cover those mistakes. Great game, regardless. Happy for Nick & the Tide.

+J H57 I'm not sure. This American had it all. 1.High scoring 2. Long pass plays 3. Blocked field goal 4. Missed field goals 5. Successful onside Kick 6. Unsuccessful onside Kick 7. Kickoff return for touchdown. 8. Plenty of second half scoring. 9. plenty of fourth quarter scoring. 10. Goal line stand (Unsuccessful) 11. Players emerging as hidden gems. The only thing it lacked was a walk off score. I think this game was better but I can enjoy any time someone beats Auburn. Roll Tide!

This is the best national championship game I've seen in a ver very long time and as a long time Clemson fan I have to say congrats to Alabama. Both teams brought their all and left everything on the field and if I'm honest with myself the play calling is what won Alabama this game. The onside kick being the best call of the game but bama did make some good passing calls that led to big gains that setup touchdowns. Clemson got to the redzone so many times and just could quite get in there. Alabama did one thing, a lot of teams did not do, to Clemson in this game and that was not underestimate our running game. At one point late in the game Gallman had 11 yards for 13 carries and that's unheard of. Our run game got us out of a lot of tight spots this year combined between Watson and Gallman and Bama limited the run to Watson and he could only do so much. Defense wins championships and, apparently in this case, special teams. There are a few bama fans I owe an apology to on this comment section. Derrick Henrey will probably go on to be a good back if he goes to a good team that can implement him into their system and I could see him going off. Ridley will definitely be a top wr in the league. A good chunk of bamas D is going to to nfl. So if Clemson had to lose I'd have to be to no other team than Alabama. I'm so happy to have seen Clemson play in the national championship game and watching them play like hell was even better. I went to the LSU game years ago in the chick fil a bowl when we won via field goal and that's when the climb, to what we are now, started. I was also at the GA dome when Alabama beat Clemson in, what I believe was, Nick Sabans first year. Its amazing to see what both Coaches have done with both programs over the years. I cannot wait till next season when the Tigers are healthy and ready to get back to the big stage.

+PatchesMalone hehe.. This was definitely one of the most exhilarating games of the year. National Championships or Super bowls usually don't live up to the hype. Often one team is just obviously THAT much better than the other... But not here, it was every type of offensive play you can imagine on Alabama's playcalling.. Even an interception thrown in there for good measure. While Clemson played exceptional defense, and let's face it Deshaun Watson played the game of his life exceeding all his offensive stats by quite a bit. Alabama won with every facet of the team.. Clemson just had a few mistakes, Bama capitalized on.. and that's really all. Not much separated the two teams. No team has worn down alabama's rotational defense all year until the National Championship. Was the first time I saw those guys NEEDING a break given the pace of the game and how short the offensive possessions were.

+Michael Mason honestly I think Henry should switch positions. He could be a beast on defense or even tight end if he likes offense. At running back he's just gonna get battered and his career wont be long. Big guys like him who lack the elusiveness are just targets in the NFL. In college people are scared to tackle them and come up soft. In the NFL aint no bitches. They will thud you down after down and smile while doing it. Ryan Clark said something that really stuck with me one time. He was talking about about Trent Richardson (who he called the worse running back of all btw) he was like when the Browns got Trent he told Tomlin man we got a problem on our hands we gotta deal with that guy. Tomlin was like problem? I hope they pick Trent. In college people were scared to tackle trent. Do you really think guys like you and Harrison are gonna be scare to tea off on him all game? Ryan Clark was like you know you right coach lol. I really worry for Henry. I think he has way better vision than Trent but still he is a large target and in the NFL with all those psychos that love contact I don't see him having a long career. But he can easily switch to outside linebacker or tight end even.
