Ya'll make this job look easy. I could not get that driver's side bolt out on my 2.5L w/ 09G trans. Even disconnected the exhaust like erWin says. Engine still needs to swing away another inch. Trans needs service anyway, so I'll get that side when the pan comes off. Oh yeah, and I mangled the bushings in the press. Had to buy the complete arm. 🤦‍♂Cheers!

Should the control arm be tightened in the neutral position (when the car is on the wheels)?

Along with the control arm bolts being torque to yield bolts and are to be replaced when removed. Not tightened by an impact.

I just purchased a 2016 VW Passat with 115'000km on the odo and its got a lot of knocking noises from the front wheel area's when driving over bumps in the road... I'm thinking the bushings are wrecked on the control arms? Is this a common issue on Passat's?

My mechanic said it was the control arm when he felt and saw that when you breaked the car the wheels were moving

You do know those bolts are stretch bolts so one time use only.

Yes, we do know but if the customer does not want to pay for them, they will not be replaced

@@GremcoGarage yep those boots are expensive. I am doing mine this week. Nice and efficient repair.

​@GremcoGarage hope you gave no warranty on the work. Can vouch from first-hand experience, the customer made a bad decision. The whole kit is around $15 per side iirc.
