2016 VW Tiguan Rear Brake Pads Change using the ~$55 ANCEL VD500 OBDII scanner for the EPB release

The purpose of this video is to demonstrate a way to change the 2016 Volkswagen rear brake pads using the ANCEL VD500 OBDII scanner for the EPB (Electronic Parking Brake) release (Note: I, purposely, did not re-lubricate the guide pins to see if there would any negative impact since these pins were still moving very freely on the caliper with existing grease).
The vehicle's mileage on 10/2/2021: ~134K miles.

Question: when I retract the break pump using Ancel, should the ignition stay powered on until everything is done, or I may turn ignition off (cause of Ancel)? Thanks

According to the screen on the tool,the ignition was turned off after retracting the brake pump. It didn't stay powered on.

So you just compressed the piston without screwing it back?

Yes. I just compressed the piston. Screwing the piston back is not needed for this vehicle.

Hi there! Thanks for the video! I have Tiguan 2016 and soon I should also do this for the first time in my life... Question: shouldn't you retract the break pump before removing the break pads? I thought the purpose of Ancel was to replace use of any mechanical tool for calipers piston

The purpose of the ANCEL VD500 is to disable the electrical parking brake for this vehicle. Why is that? The electric parking brake system uses the brake pads and rotors in the braking system. It has control over the caliper pistons. To remove the rear brake pads, you need to compress the caliper piston first. You won’t be able to do this if parking brake is set. You would be “fighting” with the actuators to compress the pistons. If you try to compress the pistons while the actuators are pushing them out, you may cause damage. To be more specific, you might damage the actuators and/or the caliper piston mechanism."

@@johnsonpaul999 I thought the caliper piston goes electronically back and forward on the command of Ancel. I could hear in a few videos how on the Ancel command caliper pistons are compressed... or it was some other noise

The sound you heard in the video was the sound of the actuator, not the piston.

I noticed that you retracted the EPB twice?

I remember that the first one was to release the EPB while the 2nd one was to return EPB to its original position.
