One of the greatest groove masters of our generation. He has completely mastered the art of syncopation, simplicity and bathing his rhythms in the pocket. Absolutely stunning drummer!

not only a great player, but spectacular speaker! Such a relief that he understands the dynamic between speaker and translator as well! some of these are a disaster, but he knows when to stop talking to let the translator catch up.

WK was in one of my first jazz quartets back in the early 80's. Prior to that, in 1971, he use to come and hang out in the music class as a kid and watch our teacher, Professor Bill Bell conduct the big band. Great musician!

Open handed playing and matched grip and amazing. Not sure why the so called great drummers of the world say your not a real drummer if you don't play traditional grip. Well this guy is in a class all his own. This proves it doesn't matter what grip you play you can still kick ass. This man rocks
@a.nobodys.nobody3 ай бұрын
A very small, silly group of old men share that sentiment. Any serious drummer would never ascribe to that nonsense. Anyone who doesn't take this guy seriously as a drummer...I don't take them seriously as a musician or human being 🤷♂️
@a.nobodys.nobody3 ай бұрын
Perhaps he's lefthanded; You practically have to learn open - if you share kits, there's no time for all that switching around.
@a.nobodys.nobody3 ай бұрын
Yes I'm lefty & Play open (dabble w traditional). Also learned guitar upside down at first, ( later switched to proper lefthand). Whatever works for you.

What a pocket! Never mind the amazing coordination! He's unique. His feel is deep like a canyon and it never moves. He can interpret a melody like Charlie Parker. His sparkling cymbal work lifts the groove up into the heavens. Will Kennedy is a world treasure on the drums because he's a musician first. The drums come second.

One of my favorite drummers since the late 80s. Will just gets better and better. I do miss the sound of his drums during the time he was using Sonor drums though. He made those small drums sound so awesome. Will's sound from around 1993 is something I really miss. But as for his playing, he's top top class.

Will has always been an exceptional musician and entity. But I have to critique, he is inconsiderate of the regular drummers experience. Drummers can most certainly control and contribute to a musical enterprise. Of they are allowed to! Most time they are reduced to mere time keeping roles by many a respected arranger of music. Drums and drummers really come into their own when the group sanctions it and wants it or by even rarer chance the arranger arranges it. Will found his group of peers. He isn't talking to drummers who have to play what is told in order to keep the gig. Drums in music has function when the writer permits it
